>getting ORC'd so hard you lose your memory
If they do that I'm subbing. I've never played an MMO before so this should be fun.
Would be neat but I cant see myself spending money on a sub ever again since playing on the private server eden.
WE FA-- oh wait
Did they lose the war for a good reason or do they just fucking suck?
behemoths dude
well that's just not fucking fair
I don't get it. They all die and then 20 years later they decide to come back when it's peaceful?
you find out what happened in the san d'orea mission line
lightbringer fucking wasted them and won the war
I like the idea of playing XI but I don't think I'd like to actually play it.
Kind of in the same boat
Played it throughout my entire childhood but I don't know if I could go back to shouting for parties back in the dunes for hours and then dying to goblin trains and going backwards in exp
Those were good times though
Normalize control and I'll play XI
Weren't there plans to make it into a single player game?
PLEASE
there were plans for a mobile game but that project is probably dead at this point?
I see. Shucks. I like the designs and music, but I've never been able to get into MMOs.
>implying theres anything more worthwhile in life than shouting for parties in the dunes
So I just got carried through second coil and holy fuck, Nael
being made by Nexon and most likely F2P cash shop garbage
wrong thread go away
Would love to play FFXI again, but without having to rely on trusts. Love the game, but the playbase is too small these days.
>carried
Go fuck yourself.
Why now? I'm guessing it might be E3 related
The war was actually impossible to win because the Shadow Lord's forces were too strong and because of the nature of his powers. The only reason they eventually win is because Altana creates a fanfiction universe where they do they impossible because she refuses to accept the bad ending. The world you play in is not the original world.
LFG Valkurm Dunes
shitty thing is it's populated enough on Asura to have parties at all levels, but everyone uses trusts anyway because they're better than people, you get full exp for being alone, and it's obnoxious to put them away, invite someone and pull them back out
fuck trusts man
the great debate: should FFXI Classic include ToAU or stop at CoP?
Either that or they're finally doing that offline version they've talked about.
I need BLU, give me ToAU.
>have to download multiple third party addons and be able to script in Lua to play
>have to play 24/7 to even remotely compete with asian bots and rmt devestated economy
Gramps, your game is shit, just let it die already.
FFXIV is much better.
Probably ToAU?
All of sky, sea, HNMs, etc were still relevant in ToAU, no real reason not to
I always wanted to pick it back up, but I think about typing out all my macros to make the game remotely playable with a controller, valcrummy dunes and grinding for gil
BOGY
Trials is good. Stop there
I don't know if they later changed it, but back before CoP when I was no-life playing XI I had so much fun training a fuckload of the Goblin Butchers right to the zone entrance to La Theine. As people would zone in they would just get savagely murdered as the gobs would only slowly meander back to their spawn points.
Everything before Abyssea is classic to me.
yup, they mostly changed it because beastmasters would charm scorpions and leave them in the main crawlers nest rooms and they would just fucking slaughter everyone
now they despawn rather than wander back to their spawn point
I love FFXI's lore so much. I really miss it.
No thanks.
The only fun part of FFXI is the lowest levels, like getting to level 30 or so, after that it becomes one massive grindfest, it took MONTHS of leveling and EXPing, hundreds of hours for one single job to get your level up to 75, and required some pretty good EXP parties with competent players.
In addition to this, once you got to lvl. 75, the real grind begins. Prepare to have to join a HNM linkshell to just get a chance to get one of the items you need to get some good gear for the late game, oops though, everyone else in the linkshell wants those items too and the drop rate is less than 1% on the item, so have fun just begging the NM that requires a massive amount of work to beat to just drop that one item one single time, by the way, if it's not a lottery spawn NM and requires pop items, have fun farming those pop items which takes a long fucking time and in itself is a difficult task. But wait, it's a lottery spawn, so have fun competing against the other dozen of groups of players who all want to kill the NM as well and will claim it before you get a change. Sounds like so much fun.
FFXI was never a good game, yes I miss it. I have nostalgia for it, and I've even played modern FFXI for a few months and got pretty reasonably well geared, and despite that the grind is all still there with ultimate weapons and augments, as well as upgrading your relic / artifact / empy gear, all of which requires rare drops from some of the hardest NMs in the game, all with time limits so you can only fight them like once every earth day, and at the same time you have to compete with 5+ other people for the drops.
It's not fun, it's never been fun, it's only a game designed to eat away at your time and keep you subscribed indefinitely.
Ah, while that shit always annoyed me when it happened to me, I can't say much because I was also the asshole who did it. Never leveled Beastmaster though, kind of regret that now that I see the trololol potential in hindsight. Stopped playing in 2004 or 2005 I think, still kind of miss it from time to time.
Same. Anything player level cap 75 and below. Wonder if it's possible to have a FFXI classic with WotG content including the entire story and Geomancer and Rune Funcer without SoA.
God I miss it.
youtube.com
>>What did they mean by this?
>this is what ff14soys believe
>tfw armor looked practical and every weapon on the screen didn't have particle effects.
I would love to see a modernized FFXI style game:
1) Same job system, able to change to any job when you want to switch on the same character.
2) Horizontal gear progression so that early game gear can still be useful, and all gear has its uses. Implement a gearswap system by default similar to what you can do through Windower4's gearswap.
3) Re-imagine all the areas and cities, make them larger and more alive. It's ok to make some changes to the story too, it's not like any of it is particularly memorable, but the locations and music are. Make the cities more alive with NPCs that have routines and do different things throughout the day / night.
4) Keep the combat similar, I don't want it to be a WoW clone like XIV pretty much is with the universal cooldown. Keep the combat system the same with some tweaks, it's still going to be an auto attack system, and it's still going to have skillchains and magic bursts, something that made FFXI pretty damn great.
5) Keep the core nations / Jeuno and all the cities.
Really though, looking back at FFXI it was quite a revolutionary MMO for its time, its day / night cycles, weather cycles, combat skillchains, and general gameplay were pretty damn excellent.
I know it will never, ever happen, but man I can dream...
That's the one thing I cannot stand about XIV, every single piece of armor looks like it was designed by an autistic 14 year old weeb with a katana collection.
Man I had so much fun with this at release.
FFXI rebalanced as a single player game or with 4-player coop would be the one of the best things I can conceptualize.
As long as they dont speed up gameplay. I liked ffxi cause no mater the job (even pld/nin or nin tanking HNMs), you could still type in chat while playing.
Welcome to Final Fantasy.
I honestly liked that aspect of it as well. If you were healer doing normal content it was basically just a chatting game.
An offline version with all expansions would be enough for me, if it had a few instanced parts like GW1 would be cool too. I ain't paying sub for an almost two decade old MMO.
FFXI isn't the kind of MMO where you just grind to level cap as fast as possible so you can do endgame raids, fag. Endgame raids are there, but there's relevant content at all levels. It's your fault you played it like an autist.
Hey FFXI had some good shit!
I legit thought the RDM was taking a piss for a second.
indeed, gear shouldn't be hard to get, you should get whatever you want by simply pointing at it
FFXI was basically a chat room with an MMORPG added onto it. Those people rushing to 75 missed out a whole bunch other stuff.
Geomancer would break old XI so hard
Imagine old HNMs but with torpor/frailty, jesus christ
Everything designed under Akihiko Yoshida is great.
go back to your dilate generals
"look how hard I can pee"
>exposed leg on dragoon armor
Doubt it. We know the dev team is already busy working on a big "surprise" project for the 20th anniversary and they're putting so much time into it that they're scaling back the regular content updates until then.
>The only reason they eventually win is because Altana creates a fanfiction universe where they do they impossible because she refuses to accept the bad ending
absolutely based
I never got to play XI, so tell me...
Mithra good, bad, only for fanservice?
Dragoons good or bad?
Rangers, they cute?
I can't wait for comfy mobile game
I like that samurai's AF is actual samurai armor in ffxi. in FFXIV you need to do deltascape for the glamour which is annoying.
mithra best
loldrg
ranger very cute
Mithra are for furfaggots only, avoid them.
Dragoons are actually a pretty decent DD, even today and it's a fun class to play, but it was harder to get invites than other DD jobs for some reason.
Cringe at the last.
>but it was harder to get invites than other DD jobs for some reason
>for some reason
Yeah it's a real mystery...
Mithras were great. Their battle stance for each weapon was very feral/savage looking. DRG was shit at the beginning until they changed their 2 hour ability and then they became gods of dps when they were DRG/SAM. And yeah rangers were cute and very useful and strong. Their widescan ability helped find NMs and other mobs. I wish FFXIv had something like it.
youtube.com
I never played a DRG, but I always preferred them over DRKs. Unequivocally the worst players I've seen in 23 years of MMO gaymin' were DRKs in FFXI. Not to say they all sucked, but a probable majority did.
>wings of the goddess
what were they thinking with this
This sounds like fun. Never got to play FFXI in its prime because I was a poorfag with no PS2/Internet, but I did play a while ago on Nasomi and had a blast.
>Dragoons are actually a pretty decent DD, even today and it's a fun class to play, but it was harder to get invites than other DD jobs for some reason.
Because a decent chunk of our damage was tied to our flying rat and early in the game it was nearly impossible to keep it alive and the timer to resummon it was fucking ridiculous.
Mithra life looks fun
yeah the wyvern was the 2 hour ability. Which is what I said inWhen they changed their 2 hour ability it really improved the job. Also the level cap raising helped a lot as well. Having certain subjob abilities made it a monster damage dealer.
Thinking about best girl. Campaign was fun too
they were supposed to release a mobile version of this game...
They are redoing the install application because the current one is ancient and shitty.
I loved her and the gay DNC dude with the lisp.
I 'member.... ;_;
So Lilisette is the canon love interest right?
disgusting happa
>ff14 will never go back to 1.0 when it was best
Why is Square so fucking retarded?
it's Arciela, 100%
i really hope this is a Classic situation, i recently got XI on steam but havent played it yet, maybe ill end up waiting
They're probably prepping the mobile release.
Its not.
It's either the mobile release or that massive update they said they were planning
Chains of Promathia > Treasures of Aht Urgan > Seekers of Aldouin > Rise of the Zilart > Wings of the Goddess.
Did you play 1.0 at launch?
While it was much more difficult the amount of bugs and connection issues made it almost unplayable.
Not to mention the layout for zones outside cities were like a maze.
I wanted XIV to be XI HD but they couldn't even do that. The bad press and sub numbers just made them go to WoW formula and it worked for them
Then who's the male canon love interest for the female adventurers?
Still Lilisette you pleb
>playing a solved mmo
Classic WoW only works because it was everybody's first mmo but even that game will be dead in less than 6 months.
FFXI Classic would not even get above triple digit subscriber numbers and just be a waste of money.
More likely it will be modern FF11 on mobile.
mithra > miqo'te
you cannot prove me wrong
1.23 was really its peak. the game just needed more content and new maps. not to be turned into a wow clone
That's what people said about classic wow. "lol nobody wants to go back to that shit."
Now its one of the biggest games on Twitch.
>start ff14
>make archer
>having fun
>oh boy time to pick the job!
>faggot bard is the only option
>I wanted to nail niggers with hellfire from above as a feral cat girl and instead I have to be a homosexual tranny that plays music
how is this shit game popular
correct. Miqote are way too human IMO. They look like cheap cosplayers. I miss their cool cat animations and look from FFXI.
I was butthurt as fuck when I saw they fused Thief and Ninja into one job. THF was my main in FFXI.
>I was butthurt as fuck when I saw they fused Thief and Ninja into one job
That's just like FF1
same here, I wanted my fucking dodge tank in ff14 and instead NOPE another faggot dps
These, though I'd at least give it a go.
They'd better actually do some balance though because at 75cap everything is just darkness skillchain magic burst AM2 with 15 black mages
>when your job selection is just dps, tank, or healer
Just play on a high rate private server then and do the story missions. It's worth it for the waifus, assault rank up what's and CoP's story alone.
most people playing don't know any better, so it's mostly either their first MMO, or people that don't really like vidya and play boring shallow trash like LoL and Overwatch, because streaming is the new hottest shit.
Fuck XIV, you don't even get a choice on what fucking type of weapon you can use
It's controls are fine. Stop trying to use the mouse.
CoP but then make ToAU available after a year or two
not to mention you can only play each job in one way and with only one type of weapon. I remember loving warrior in FFXI because I could any weapon I wanted. Do I wanna use dual axes today with nin as my subjob? sure! Do I wanna dole out fuckhuge damage with a greataxe? hell yeah. Do I just wanna look cool? claymore or scythe hell yeah!! Also nin being able to shadow tank was so cool. Every job had a lot of possibilities. Blue mage was good at whatever it wanted to do as well.
You might want to consider jumping to MCH when you get to Ishgard. Meta-wise it's not nearly as good as BRD, but what most metafags don't tell you is that the meta is really only crucial in muh big dick dps world record speedrun 420 stream shit. Any actual content can be done with any job comp, even if that comp is fucking DRK/DRK/WHM/WHM/MCH/MCH/MCH/MCH.
my friend played on a PS2 pad on pc, but I used mouse and keyboard. another played on xbox with a controller and keyboard. just find whatever is comfy for you.
Not really. Takes 2-3 weeks to get from LVL 1-66 and another week to get 66-75.
Learn to make your own parties.
Some jobs are slow going. Leveling bst early is an easy way to get sick solo exp chains from bombs on almost any job.
Also once level sync was added Qufim Island burn parties were the second best exp/hour in the game
t. Got Maats Cap back in the CoP days.
>Blue mage was good at whatever it wanted to do as well.
As a BLU main in XI, XIV's "attempt" at BLU literally fucking hurts to look at.
Dunno, took them like 3 years to finish releasing missions and content for it, which eventually no-one cared about
Of all the heavy dps, drg has the superior hate management. A drk or rng could easily pull hate from a beginner/intermediate tank but can't do anything about it--drg could regularly shred their hate every minute and a half or so while still maintaining good dps and giving that sweet sweet angon.
I love BLU in every other FF game and I get sad and angry every time I remember XIV's BLU exists. What a fucking insult.
Nah that'd be either Lion, Prische, Ulmia or Naja.
Speaking of, I've been eyeballing XI. How viable is a Purple Mage?
BLU/RDM is great imo. Because of convert and a few other spells and abilities...but mostly because of convert haha.
They're even trying to make brd into dps-lite, I guess so they have something to do in between their 12 minute songs lmao
You can apply that to more than just BLU IMO.
I noticed that. I said fuck it the other day and paid to get brd to 60 and as I was leveling it to 70 I was so damn bored with it. Looks like DNC will be an improvement over it in practically every way from what we've seen. Gameplay-wise it looks a lot more involved.
I miss it so much. It may have a lot to do with the time I was playing it in my life, and it being my first MMO, but man. The first few months starting out were magical. Just absolutely not knowing shit about anything, having to go out and explore, actually make friends, go on adventures... It'll never be the same.
>He can't write Lua scripts
Fucking faggot.
>Make RNG
>Call it BRD only because of the song system
I play XIV and I still don't get that.
I know the feeling. I still talk to a few people I met in the game from way back in 2005!
Which one does not wear panties?
Diabolos server checking in.
Same, still know a few people from the linkshell, talking PS2 NA launch in 2003.
Funny how they gave the enmity tools to the only DD that doesn't do enough damage to need them
ragnarok here. I heard our economy was one of the most fucked. www.ffxiah.com is a good website.
>FFXI classic
I will literally dump my girlfriend and no life the shit out of this if they do it. God please SE do it.
Lmao stay mad and keep dying, cuck
that is insane. SoA brought in a lot of new wack shit. I never finished it.
why was the warrior AF so bad
lol
it was supposed to be a callback to the Fighter job, but I get what you mean. Even their AF3 wasn't that great.
1. If you are so bad that you had to get carried in unsync then kill yourself, you are officially braindead.
2. If you got carried in sync then you are still fucking baddie, nael isn't that hard and there is an ECHO+ilvl overgear.
>shilling some shitty twitch multibox streamer
you know this is the cancer that killed ffxi and ironically what is keeping the corpse of the game alive.
I don't watch twitch
You seem very knowledgeable about it though
Two good 75 era servers out: Eden and Nasomi. WWU
Up to lvl 75 is fine. Abyssea was the beginning of the end.
I hope they release FFXI offline so I can finally play it without wasting half my life in the process.
Are XI and XIV the only numbered FF games that are direct sequels?
FFX and X-2 and then FF13 has like 3 games right? I don't remember.
I meant Numbered as in XIV isn't XI-2 or something.
14 is not at all a direct sequel to 11
>Numbered
I could have sworn that FF9 is connected to one of the other FFs.
If you play like 10+ hours every day weekday and weekend, sure. For the average person, getting to 75 took at least like half a year and probably longer. But like others have said, FFXI wasn’t just about getting to max level as much as modern MMOs are.
Not for me, mine is Prishe. She made me a lolicon.
Interesting timing, I literally just started playing for the first time today.
This UI is fucking something else lads, I would not have had the patience for this as a kid.
I would immediately sign up.
She still owns you, user
Don't forget
I'm a huge Prishefag too but the vibes I got from Lilisette's interactions through the story really made me feel like they wanted her to be 'the' girl.
hell yeah
How about Era?
Not hating on XI but why would people play it when they could play XIV? What's great about XI? Never played it cause zoomer
it's not even the same fucking genre
they're both mmos tho right?
story, freedom with character builds, player intereaction, and sense of accomplishment is high above FFXIV IMO.
in the same way that Granblue Fantasy and Warframe are both MMOs
If they even mention XI at E3, I'll already consider it a minor miracle, let alone actually announcing something for it.
game was around when online guides where still new. so people relied on word of mouth for strats and locations. combat was slow so you could chat a lot. people logged in simply to fish and chat.
this one guy in my social ls was only level 56 yet spent his evenings leveling goldsmithing. got it to level 100 eventually then some of the biggest groups went to him for crafting. so much more than just getting to max level and grinding out gear.
Miqo'te have better asses than Mithra
i miss big booty elvaan in them rdm shorts
How's Nasomi doing? Any of you fags play?
>XIV
>asses
lol
was just about to say this. They are all Lightning tier.
That's pretty bad if Mithra are flatter than that
IS DAT SUM PATRICK STEWART
you would be right if you weren't wrong
mithra were petite and incredibly tight. if you wanted big and loud go elvaan. they had ass and hips for days.
ohh I was gonna call you dumb but then I realized you're baiting mithra butts
I see you
So do we know why square is pushing out FFXI media today?
except the discussion is miqo'te vs mithra and I'm looking at a mithra ass right now that's obviously bigger
X, X-2, XIII Trilogy, After Years, and also apparently 7 is technically a sequel to 10 because Shinra from 10 flies to the planet 7 takes place on
Also Bravely Default + Second if you consider those FF games. Also i yhink FF: My Life as a King/Dark Lord sequel/prequel each other. Also the Dissidia games are all sequels too
So actually there's quite a few direct sequels, even only counting the numbered games
That is a Hank Hill ass right there
How did they manage to rip the races from XI and manage to make them look like cheap chinese knock-offs?
Because they in fact, are, Yoshida is a fucking hack but the trannies will gargle his cum for fucking days
check it out
ffera.com
Switch to MCH, that sounds exactly what you want. Did you see the shadowbringers job trailer for it?
Because they wanted to use the races from XI, but make them a little different to seperate the games more. Unfortunately their idea for making them a little different was just to make them more human.
>you don't even get a choice on what fucking type of weapon you can use
You kind of do but it's completely superficial/cosmetic, a Sword and a Warpick aren't functionally different, they're both just "Paladin Arms"
>When you self-skillchain-SATA-Magic burst an enemy as BLU/THF for the first time
Tanaka was the one who copied the XI races you dimwit.
user, that look souless as fuck.
>private servers
>building for max defense with cocoon for a cannonball build
so fucking cool man
>no male mithra
>no female galka
how did you get hoodwinked into thinking less is more and accepting an incomplete race?
the idea of female galka was repulsive, the idea of male mithra was gay as fuck
XIV proved that much right
>no male viera
>no female hrothgar
how did you get hoodwinked into thinking less is more and accepting an incomplete race?
i didn't, i still regularly post in the thread ree'ing for male viera
the same stupid and irritating people that plague the streams of FF XIV asking for
"gender equality"
It pisses me off so much. I mean, obviously would be great if we had male viera and female hrothgar. But people are asking it for erp, sjw and fucking mental illness things.
You could ask them right now, they're doing the same thing again with Shadowbringers.
im only interested in male viera because i'd like a tall race that doesnt look retarded and have awful animations (elezen) and doesn't have a tail (aura)
And that's fine. I only can't stand obnoxious people raging in twitter and twitch every time asking for it just because they want to erp or some faggot shit.
It's a shame Tanaka's vision will never be realized.
youtube.com
yoshi said they're fixing elezen animations soon(tm)
I started playing XI a couple of months ago and I'm just level 50 with SAM, rep 5 in Bastok and doing all the missions.
I genuinely can't explain the magic aura the game has, and I don't have nostalgia for it and I know the game has change a lot since back in the day.
But I play XIV as well and I like the game a lot, but it's so different in it's execution, more "generic". XI feels unique, the world, the combat, traveling, all of it. I wish I had experience it sooner. It's a little rough around the edges and not friendly at all. But it's pure PS2 era unfiltered and I love it.
Also, the OST is pure bliss, just heard this the other day:
youtu.be
he also said there'd be new egi glamour
>yoshi said
I'm a Nigerian prince and I need your help.
XI has so much charm, it's really something special
is that the "hidden" beach in the dunes?
XI is all about mercenaries now. Nobody wants to go do anything as a group they just want to pay someone to do it for them. Nobody will budge on the meta and if you try to do things the old way everyone just leaves your group.
Purgonorgo Isle in Bibiki Bay.
yeah now that i think about it those pugils are a weird color
yeah, it's sad
all the mercenaries just multibox 6 characters with advanced luas running them, bots are everywhere, people openly admit to speedhacking
SE just stopped caring about anything beyond getting a monthly sub
I'm new to the game, what is speedhacking and what effect has in the game?
what do you think speedhacking is
Here is some sadfacts. ALMOST EVERY SINGLE ENDGAME LINKSHELL openly uses hacks these days. Move while dead being a big one.
Running faster or attacking faster? I don't know.
running
yeah except wow is still the worlds biggest mmo so its not that surprising especially compared to the literal who ffxi
>zoomer doesn't know what EQ is
Classic FF XI is much much harder than classic wow. It will never have the same recognition.
I love how everyone is talking about how unforgiving and grindy classic wow was
Like everyone conveniently forgot that it was the most casual friendly, accessible MMO on the market at the time
Yeah first job to 75 ahead took longest cuz of missions, genkai, skills being uncapped and no gear.
i remember some of my ls mates went to try wow when it came out, they got bored after a week cause they made it to max and didnt feel like grinding the same dungeons over and over again
>tfw you literally couldn't leave your chosen starting city and maybe the immediate zone around it because you'll be fucking stomped immediately
>if you wanted to leave you HAD to group up
Made the world feel so much bigger and more exciting than any other MMO I played since. I heard they completely ruined it and made it an amusement park like every other MMO though.
Grandpa Eve Online says hi.
It was really nice having meaningful shit to do while you leveled
Chocobo license, AF, BCNMs, missions, collecting scrolls, skilling up, camping NMs for shit like peacock charm or snipers rings, leveling subs
I hate how in MMOs now if you aren't max level, all you have to focus on is racing to max level
>never came out
I was looking forward to this more than FFXIV.
It's possible they're delaying it because they can make money with FFXIV and it's SE's main source of income at the moment.
i remember grinding to about level 13 solo as rdm just in sarutarubuta before managing to finally get out
What private servers are worth investing time into? Was there ever a fix made for the game running terribly on modern nvidia laptops?
>peacock charm or snipers rings
With the current state of MMOs it's kinda funny looking back at pieces like that. Some of the best shit in their slots for endgame and they were mid-level equipment.
>just got home from school
>oh boy I can't wait to get a few hours in on FFXI before bedtime
youtube.com
Patching... 5 hours remaining...
YAMEROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Naomi if you want autism, fully old-school style server and weird changes like mobs mvt speed matching your own.
Era for a laid back, chill server, choice of 1x or 4x rates, solid code and usually at the forefront of coding new DSP features.
Eden for a weird mix of the two.
I'm the only one that has an incredible nostalgia for Play Online?
Is a vestige of an era.
Rip triple triad online
this is giving me extremely strong nostalgia coupled with unlocked childhood memories
It's hard to explain this feeling
>internet capped out at like 180kbps on this retarded system
>so many school nights ruined because they dropped a patch that took fucking hours to download
Man this game looks dated as fuck. Hilarious because WOW came out before it and WOW still looks amazing.
what
FFXI came out in May 16, 2002
Why... Why is XIV so souless. AAGH.
Anyone tried XIV 1.0 back in the day? For the looks of it, seems more like XI than ARR does.
Its amazing how much better that cutscene is than anything in XIV.
WoW never looked good what do you mean
Came before wow and for a home console.
I'm going to need more evidence
Would have been interesting to be able to play 1.0 without the fact that the game ran like hot garbage and the servers didn't work to objectively see what it had to offer.
>WOW came out before it
hey
you're wrong
It was, yes. And by 1.23b had the making of foundation for a worthy successor.
But the initial release and the engine and really everything else was so fucking bad there was no real way to salvage it.
Nasomi has a few game breaking bugs still in it and just like any private server, it is lacking the native code for the different BCNM and HNM. It also has worms that move.
Era seemed to have pigeonholed itself into some x4 exp, multibox sanctuary. I think they are trying to get themselves into a more serious light.
Eden is relatively new and still growing.
All of them have had some hilarious RMT drama.
Why are there Mithra memes?
FFXI > FFXIV
At least the Mithras aren't sluts like the fucking Miqote.
Because
Thats what makes the Miqo'te so much better
Is there a private server that isn't retarded and just lets me play the content by myself and pretend it's 2004 again?
i see you like the bar set low.
He does play XIV.
>But the initial release
Whoever decided to call the exp penalty a penalty instead of phrasing it as a bonus you eventually lose after playing for so long better have been yakuza'd. There were do many dumb decisions at the start of 1.0, but that one had to be the worst and probably one of the more damaging ones.
Trusts make the game easy as fuck to level with now
It was definitely similar to XI, but also different in weird ways that turned XI players off while also being too strange for the WoW crowd. In the end, it really pleased no one and was basically in damage control ever since release.
XIV has one of the most toxic communities in the modern MMORPG era.
>looking for people for shitty savage raids
>wow you guys took an extra 10 seconds to kill the boss I am out
>wow your dps isn't optimal so kick
>wow the healing sucks so I am out
>wow the healer's dps sucks so I am out
Fuck that game with a spoon.
>lets me play the content by myself
>ffxi
>XIV is just a gear based game
>can't personalize your build for you
I want to go back to ninja tank.
That's actually the western community. On Chocobo they regularly help people clear savage in duty finder. It's weird.
Yeah, I'm not playing with the freaks and douchenozzles that inhabit a private a server. I just want to play the story missions since I never got through them back in the 00's.
>we killed something in 3:57 mins when we should have killed him in 3:30
>dumbshit leader kicks the bard and monk
>spends an extra 30 mins finding replacement
Why do people do this? I could have fucking been done 30 mins ago.
No game has ever come close to the level of immersion I felt while playing FFXI. The world just felt alive and, as you said, Magical.
When new expansions got released I was as much excited for the new areas to explore and monsters to see as I was for the new Jobs to play. My first time running through Alzadaal Undersea Ruins in ToAU and marveling at the architecture or running through the Shadowreign Era zones in WotG and thinking how cool it would be if we could access these areas in the present. Nothing even remotely came close to those feels.
home lads...bros....home....
I am just saying FFXI is different where people has to come together as a community to get loot. I really hope the rate is better with the remake though. And I also hope they keep the EN+JP servers intact.
I just want them to move the game to a modern launcher. Fucking playonline I hated you back in the day and I hate you now.
Watch this make this for the Switch.
Instances were a mistake.
If you just want to solo missions Valhalla is a good choice. Their custom gear augmentation system and helper NPCs makes it easy to solo most of the content.
>I just want to play the story missions
You can do just about 99% of that "solo" in retail nowadays if that's all you really want to play FFXI for.
I actually liked pre1.0 until they casualized it because of WoWbabbys complaining
ff14 sucks compared to the glory days of ff11.
One of the top tier tracks from an already amazing soundtrack.
Also good: youtube.com
Rmt drama is funny because honestly after a point Gil is basically useless. All the good gear is rare/ex anyway
>Are they gonna follow suit with classic?
Not a chance. We can't have nice things. Buggy private servers with wanker admins forever, that's FF11 now.
>be NIN/WAR thanking something
>see the PLD tank from the other party get instagib by goblin bomb
>goes and tank for the other party
>they can't speak english so they thank you using emotes
This feeling of community has yet to be duplicated in any other mmorpg I played. Maybe Dragon Dogma online, that game has an awesome community as well. But I doubt anyone in Yea Forums ever heard of that game.
>XI ost makes me emotional
>Ragnarok Online ost makes me emotional
>game doesn't have catboys
Just play on Era and multibox a Rdm & Min. Level summoner on both of them too.
Can do basically everything with 3 multibox summoners and a bard
Haven't seen this cinematic in years. Gave me the feels so bad
14 is getting some soul with Shadowbringers. Actual original content and story.
Yea this is a lie... nu-Squeenix is fucking garbage.
Gil lets you buy Rare/Ex gear from people who can kill the things that drop it easily. So they can afford to craft food, or fund REMA weapons, or use it for any of the other miscellaneous uses it still had endgame.
It was always nice to have things like that. I came from RO to XI and you had a nice sense of community. Especially since everything wasn't instanced content.
Dragons Dogma online was fun, I enjoyed my time with alchemist.
>14 is getting some soul
sure it is, user
sure it is
>getting raised by some random pld while running to jeuno for the first time
he went on to help me get there safety.
FFXIV is lucky to have put them in only for Shadowbringers content. Even though we do have Squadrons. I despise AI controlled shit.
>that guy that helps escort you to jeuno
>tfw down the line you escort a level 20 to jeuno yourself
the circle of life
Maybe advance to ToAU after spending years at CoP. Start with Vanilla, level 50 cap, Up the cap every couple of weeks, start Zilart after a month of vanilla, release story updates faster than the original but still slowly, don't make it possible for people to rush to what they consider 'endgame' right from the start.
FFXI had one of the most impressive textures
>just want a new FFXI that is not held back by having to keep working on the motherfucking Playstation 2
>get FFXIV
>has some neat ideas, the charm is there mostly, but apparently the dev team went full retard and duct taped some shit together and called it a game engine
>unsalvagable
>rebooted, entirely, basically made a new fucking game
>it feels like a soulless Korean F2P MMO
There's just something awful about FFXIV that I can't put my finger on. It is not fun. Its setting is grating. I do not feel any urge to continue playing it on into the night like I did every single time picking up FFXI. It fucking blows.
Nah, its for mobile. They said it years ago
>raises like 6 people at once using chainspell
>everyone is super impressed
And whats great is that faggot streamers wont be ruining it
>converts and cures himself back up
You better believe Nynj4 would probably stream it at least once exposing it to thousands of casuals.
No it doesn't.
It's simple.
Horizontal vs Vertical progression.
FF XIV wants you to get to max level so you can have all the fun, get max gear, raid, do shit.
FF XI is confident in giving you little pieces while you level up. The end game is the goal, of course, like in any MMO, but the way to get there was something else. I feels like a single player jrpg experience where you are rewarded during the game, and the end is not the most important thing.
That is what is lacking in every fucking MMO nowadays. People just want to get the cool stuff after a couple of hours and don't have the patience to enjoy simply playing the fucking game.
Didn't this game have like an end tier raid boss that took literally dozens of hours to beat and there was this one concerted raid effort that had people getting sick and passing out at their LAN stations?
*kills ur raid irl*
Yeah, I remember being a Samurai and just being shit on and kicked from parties till I could afford a Haubergeon and ochiudo’s kote. Which fucking took me forever to get.
Absolute Virtue and Pandemonium Warden both had that. Both from FFXI.
The first real attempt at Pandemonium Warden lasted for over 24 hours. I remember hearing rumors somebody from JP died of exhaustion.
It had two of them.
Absolute Virtue was the original.
Pandemonium Warden was the second and was the one that made the news because retards were killing themselves trying to beat it.
>Writes "fuck" in his convert macro
>White Mage has a heart attack every 10 minutes
Not really the complete story. Read this to get the full thing of that 23 hour fight. I would also read some of the other posts he made, this guy and his LS pioneered some strats used for years by both NA and JP endgame shells.
rukenshin.livejournal.com
Older MMO's also tended to be a lot more 'open', you weren't necessarily as directly funneled on your leveling path. Modern MMO's are a much more directed, curated experience with little chance of wandering into content not meant for you unless you go well off beaten path. And that's before you take into account things like Instancing which means you can never wander across random people doing weird shit in the middle of nowhere.
When I was a kid, Everquest fascinated me - just the idea of it, of being able to wander out somewhere and potentially meet people. I loved the idea of being just some guy who travelled back and forth between cities, helping people.
That sense of connection, of actually inhabiting a world and interacting with the people in it - rather than just running quests and mutely queing up into group finders - is something that doesn't exist anymore.
Kinda funny Kojima is making his autism game about that very thing, now.
Stop spamming Astral Flow, you ugly fuck!
I think there's a boss that needed like two alliances which is like 36 players.
Ninja literally streams on Nasomi
What's really funny is how WoW came after and looked like dogshit.
They already established they are in the lore just not as playable.
Yeah I remember reading about this shit in a game mag when I was younger, people getting sick and needing medical attention because this raid took like 24 hours or something insane. I remember thinking "literally why?"
Male Mithra, yes.
Female Galka don't exist. They "reincarnate."
>leveling DRK
>hit 66
>every group invite now proceeds to ask me if I have spinning slash
>I leveled with scythe all the way
>spent weeks skilling up greatsword
>finally allowed to party again
>mfw my first Sneak Attack Spinning Slash Light closer
I felt like I had mastered the game at that point
>ffxiv since the beginning of this year has surpassed wow in the number of active subs
This shit is not going away anytime soon isn't it?
Mithra just rub their lewd bodies together in hotsprings during orgies and out from the hot spring comes new girl mithras. Read the source material.
Yeah but it's less impressive when you remember that they're giving away like 90% of the game for free now
It's a 17 year old mmo and plays like it. Back then MMOs offered more freedom and variety in how you played and built characters. Look at RuneScape, Ragnarok Online, EverQuest, FFXI and so forth. That being said I still love 14 and there is still a ton to do in 14 if you choose to do it.
>male mithra are so rare they have to stay at home fucking 24/7
porn writes itself
When parties first started doing Skillchain + Magic Burst Ancient Magic to oneshot mobs was crazy. Closing Distortion or Darkness for a MB Freeze to just annihilate everything felt so amazing.
Then ToAU came along and brought Colibri and EXP changed forever.
Except that MNKs had been doing burn parties for years in King Ranpierre's Tomb before ToAU ever came out.
>ywn be the male mithra
Heheheh never been so satisfied to see a antagonist lose.
>Casting {Freeze} in 17 seconds!
>Start Skillchain now!
>Shadow Lord
>antagonist
Raogrimm did nothing wrong
>join my first static as a 16 year old kid
>happy as fuck
>became besties with this Mithra
>managed to get to end game with said static
>static started quitting dropping out
>only me and Mithra left
>we are in separate LS but its cool
>spend all my time in FFXI with this Mithra
>we started playfully flirting with each other
>start having feeling for her like I want to meet her in RL
>hey what is your RL name
>Ted
>unsub and never picked it up again since
I might come back because I loved the community in this game.
>XI after Hiro's meltdown and final attempts to sabotage the game in order to push people to FFXIV.
XI is done, it's over. The community is gone and that's what made the game. Even private servers don't do justice.
I still have nightmares bros.
>>start having feeling for her like I want to meet her in RL
>>hey what is your RL name
>>Ted
>Not just meeting and sucking his dick
What are you, gay?
>Mithra good, bad, only for fanservice?
Good. Dex and agi are good stats to have for many jobs, so the Mithra are not just a pretty face.
>Dragoons good or bad?
They have something of a bad rep because wankers gonna wank. The game was originally unfair to Dragoons making their wyvern summon that they need to be a good job their 2 hour ability and desummoning the wyvern if you do the wrong thing like mount a chocobo, leaving you as a shitty warrior for up to 2 hours... This was eventually fixed and even classic private servers keep DRG's new 2 hour behavior and make Call Wyvern a 15 minute cooldown. This makes DRG a great job. Your pet wyvern will outtank a tank often enough. He is a good boy.
>Rangers, they cute?
Can be. I mean, a Galka ranger wouldn't float me boat but.
The Empty mobs were legit creep as fuck. Trekking through this zone with a full alliance just for safety in numbers was fun.
Still the best Final Fantasy to date.
>go down there with an 18 man group with the intention of breaking off into 3 groups for the mission
>lose people at the bottom floor in impossible to raise situations making 3 groups an impossibility
every time
This game predates Vanilla WoW, zoomer.
Mithra fucked me up for the rest of my life.
>Someone invariably aggros an IT on the to floor and sends everyne into a panic-stricken dash for the final gate.
Shadowbringers will run its course. Then, Final Fantasy 16 will be the next gen MMORPG. Meanwhile, Blizzard is so cucked and with no talent left at the company, they can't make a new MMORPG to compete.
It will be glorious. I predict, around 2022-2023. Don't die anons.
>still playing XI
>DRG is in borderline perfect gear, short of some valorous DM augs
>still get turned down when I offer to go DRG for shit I can easily solo
fuck DRG
Not the shadow lord.
This bitch
No one has made an old style MMO since FFXI itself and that trend doesn't seem likely to change. Also I highly doubt they're going to launch another MMO so soon, FFXI was going for 11 years before FFXIV and that's if you count XIV's 1.0 release which basically wasn't playable.
>that one fag who doesn't know how to hug a wall
>party proceeds to yell DIE IN A SAFE CORNER NOW HURRY
This was always my favorite track.
FFXI remaster?
>that faggot who never asks what aggros on sound and what aggros on sight
youtube.com
Didn't it make this song that much better though?
>WHO THE FUCK AGGROD THE DEATH HOUSE?
> Final Fantasy 16 will be the next gen MMORPG
Excuse me, but the last MMO SE tried to make tanked so badly that they had to copy Blizzard just to get people back. XIV is a horrible shitty WoW clone and every expansion is dull as fuck since it's the same formula as the last one with just a new setting.
Not any time soon since the XI team's big "surprise" is set for the 20th anniversary.
>The dragon that swoops over the lake in Misereaux Coast.
Top Kino.
>attempting CoP 2-5 mammets with the LS
>trying different job setups, SMN kiting one, NIN tanking another, burning the third with Mighty Strikes
>manage to kill it at like 3 AM on a school night
>tfw getting ported over to Gustaberg and hearing youtube.com
CoP was the golden age of MMOs, 100%
>have been playing on nasomi for almost 4 months after being done with retail back in 2013 (lvl 119 killed the game)
>was doing it because was taking a break from XIV until shadowniggers
>less than a month left until the update
>close to finish my first job 75
It was fun and a ton of nostalgia but I have to get back to XIV boys. I'll try to come back after being done with 5.0 and close to 5.1
>Playing 18 hours of a video game causes you to faint and vomit
Huh? I stayed up for 2 whole days to beat a game and felt absolutely fine. Especially when I hit that bed and woke up 8 hours later.
japs are weak
common colds are fatal
>the ghosts in Gusgen Mines
So much soul was put into XI's zones.
This is where its at.
dude my first time seeing one of those fucking ghosts as a kid
Cop>ToAU>3 mini expansions>RoZ>WotG>>>>shit>>>SoA
Can we agree?
Read that life journal. Only reason they were sick was cause of the impending doom of their failure. Imagine spending hours widdling away HP on a monster only to have it regen most of it back and wipe your alliance on a petty 2hr during one of its phase changes.
Or finally beating the 60 Cap Ultima & Omega fight and then zoning into this: youtube.com
holy shit those ghosts
what was the lore behind them?
Nope. They also already said 3 - 4 more expansions will likely come out for 14. Stay mad cuck.
Was always the same way. Gave it a good, half year try back in 2006 and I just couldn't stick to it.
This is my favorite capitol music to date. My HP is set in Aht Urghan Whitegate for this alone.
>someone gets aggro while we're running around
>"just let it kill him and I'll rez"
>one guy runs in to fight it
>other party members join in on the fight one by one
>full party wipe
I was livid
You're right, fuck toau.
Large amounts of mythril were extracted from these twisting caverns long before the discovery of the Palborough Mines. Complete with a railway system for mine carts, Gusgen was heavily mined for many years. During those years there are reports of numerous accidents involving both miners and their children. In particular, records tell of six unfortunate fellows dying under very suspious circumstances. However, the spirits of these long departed miners still remain, bound to the many pools throughout the mine; returning to the sound of the shift changing siren. Legends also tell of a hellish beast, who roams the deepest depths of the mine, preying on unsuspecting people. Today the veins of ore are all but depleted, and the miners have packed up and moved away. Now, apart from the vile creatures lurking within, the mines remain abandoned.
>be in Al'taieu
>get random tells from people asking what it's like
Dead miners from caveins
Bastok dumping Galka slaves off into the mines to keep up production
I had something like that happen to me on an old RPG and I was just ass hurt after hours of replaying the boss. I then just hopped back in.
>Hiro's meltdown and final attempts to sabotage the game in order to push people to FFXIV
I'm curious. Explain. Did this have to do with the raising of the level 75 cap and Abyssea in the first place, during it, or after?
Beating all of CoP while it was still level-capped and current and getting my Rajas Ring is STILL my proudest gaming achievement.
The story as is has been mapped out through 7.x, which should be the same expansion we reach 99/100 if the current pattern holds. After that Yoshi's off the game and who knows what will happen. So two more expansions after Shadowbringers.
Did Nas ever get fixed or is it still nothing but BLMs that spam away without a care almost never being resisted while meleeing a monster once causes it to use 6 TP moves?
blm were always limited by MP and cast time
they were always weaker than any melee dps because they don't need to rest to continue the dps
You just wiped. Go get another pump. Hope you have the cash.
>It is essential to cap exp before this event. Every member of the shell now is close to deleveling, if not already de-leveled, as a result of this fight. Even though there were many R2s and R3s given out, a few of our members came close to hitting 73 (poor Hank and Zoot). We had people coming extremely close to de-leveling out of relics as well... I am 1k away from 74, for the first time ever in FF (I never de-leveled from 75 before).
Jesus fucking Christ. I didn't remember this kind of crap.
>just lets me play the content by myself
Sounds like you want the current retail experience m8. That's the single player version. Private servers are for playing with real human beans.
When I played they gave mobs no TP with their nukes and did way more damage than back on retail along with their old nuke heavy ways.
>WAR/NIN with dual axes and full HQ Shade
literally trained to fuck promyvion in the mouth
Pump were Ultima & Omega. You're thinking of Terroanima or whatever.
Terroanima made the bosses run around like retards for a while. CCB Polymer Pumps froze Ultima and Omega for 10~ seconds.
Be me in ffxi
>Rdm Pimp main
>Overconfident cause leet rdm in game.
>shit is hitting the fan and i crack my knuckles and say bring it on!
Be me in real life
>overconfident cause rdm taught me how to cocky as hell in rl too xD
>shit is hitting the fan and i crack my knuckles and say bring it on!
this is a youtube comment for sure
>mana burn this fags
>most of the nukes are resisted because shit blm
>that huge desperation to survive by all 18 guys in the alliance
Nothing can't top this
Name top tier moments like this
based
this shit playing during it too youtube.com
such a good fight
I always had a hard on for that Mithra.
Go to random exp party in the dunes to power level a good friend, heal party and tank every mob in the area at the same time, no dmg cause stone-skin + phalanx.
Literal worship.
why would you want it to go away. FFXIV existing doesn't stop FFXI from existing. Never understood the vitriol.
I remember doing this with the PLD Supertank Strat. It was some of the easiest shit ever.
Yeah I'm ass backwards on that. It has been like 15 years.
He tried to fix it. Now sometimes all it takes is 1 blm spell and it will TP.
Man, it just fucking hurts existing.
>Misereaux Coast
The blocked off tunnels there and in Lufaise Meadows always make me wish the game could've got a bigger budget so the devs could actually do everything they wanted. But now our only chance to visit the ruins of Tavnazia is if they remake the game or make a new game in the same setting, and neither will be the same because most, if not all of the people that made the game what it was are gone.
>that guy that lived in the dunes, all of his playtime was spent PLing random groups and raising people
I love you Ojin, you were a real hero
>join a ls for endgame
>something fucking great drops
>"guys don't loot this, my gf needs it and she has priority"
>his "gf"" is probably a mule
I'm sure everyone who played this game passed by this kind of shit.
I've actually never in my life been in a linkshell that pulled this shit
Lucky I guess?
Sounds like it was a fun game to play, sounds really fun grouping up with people and doing shit. Is the game now still worth getting into despite me missing out on the "golden age"? This game always seemed to interest me nonetheless.
It's idiots with nostalgia, same as the classic WoW faggots. Look at the imbeciles that want a 'classic FFXI', as if it wasn't a god damned train wreck until Aht Urhgan.
youtube.com
I'm not crying. It's raining.

>all hell breaks loose
>somehow through sheer will and some good ole fashion luck we win
>get my earring
>we all become friends and keep in touch
FFXI rebalanced as a single player game or with 4-player coop would be the one of the best things I can conceptualize.
Day 1 buy this 1000 times this i do not play with 12 year olds niggers faggots trannys sweaty nerds or losers.
Depends what you want
Story is all still there, but you'll never struggle to access it in the way that you had to back in the day that made it all feel worth it
Community is still alive and well on Asura but you wont really do anything with anyone until endgame anymore
The community really isn't there anymore. There's still a fairly active playerbase but so much of the game is soloable now that the sense of having a group of friends you do stuff with isn't there.
They story is still top tier though and I'd recommend playing it just for that alone. It's really one of the best Final Fantasy games in terms of story and it rarely gets the credit it deserves because it's an MMO.
FUUUUCK
i didn't play ffxi back then but i did enjoy pso and i remember people talking about it back then. it sounded like a cool game.
Oh God, I remember seeing this when it happened on KillingIfrit. I was dying laughing at that.
>all that shit gear
>people dropping levels like crazy because no Exp left
>can't even kill the Taru
They deserved it
I know this is from a bit later in the game's life, but this one is always the most memorable to me. I spent a LOT of time in Sarutabaruta Shadowreign
youtube.com
As someone who put 30,000 hours into the game, I hope not.
As wonderful as "classic" XI was you simply can't recapture it today. Modern gamers don't have the patience or energy to get into it and the original players are too old. Hell even when it came out it was still too hardcore for the masses, no one would play it today especially with how ravenous the FFXIV playerbase is with their hate of XI.
no because classic FFXI would scare away players.
>all those Level Downs
fucking BLMs never had any buffer
>FFXI rebalanced as a single player game
I'm ~90% sure the big surprise the dev team are working on for the 20th anniversary is an offline version with everything rebalanced to be done with (improved) Trusts. That way SE can eventually shut down the servers, but people will still be able to keep their characters and play the game.
NQ Weskit fags BTFO

I really liked WotGs OST, for the sake of starting zone songs you could easily tell without knowing which zone they belonged to because of instrument usage
youtube.com
honestly if thats the case you should pick up FFXI now, its amazing
XI is from Square Soft, what the fuck are you talking about
The worst part is 99% of the people still playing would be laughed out of any half serious group. They're just retards riding on years and years of luck and overgearing. Brain drain is real
I played the hell out of ff11 from the beginning and quit around 2008, i came back about three years ago and finished the story lines and saw how the endgame is just a giant grind fest i feel like nothing really changed from the days long ago. Though being able to still access the game and just enjoy the content and story withing is enough.
Im playing ff14 and of course the games are nothing alike. FF14 has a lot of good in it too, heavenward is spectacular, but to tell you the truth its better that way, ff14 doesn't need to be ff11.
FF11 was something unique and very special and im glad i spent so long playing something that im sure ill remember in my 80s when it will definitely be gone and just a memory.
I share my tears with all you guys that got to enjoy the game in its heyday.
Diabolos for life.

RUN was from WAY later. They've got dumbass glowy weapons now. Pulse Panoply
That particular armor and weapons didn't get introduced until well after the game started changing into what it is today.
Original Armors and Weapons were, for the most part, practical and reasonable-looking.
This has been me for the last 4 months since I resubbed to ffxi. My gf even broke up with me. so fucking based

Subligars.
Actually, I do. Also fuck off.
i don't think you really know how many people are still fuming at capcom for not bringing DDO online to the west here
Oh baby oh baby!!!
So?
Funny, all these years I thought it was a miracle that Square Enix made something so good
Turns out they didn't
Nah, fuck you burrito nigger. BOTH of those servers were hated because of you.
Subligar are a fashion statement. A FASHION STATEMENT!
Unfortunately this. I loved FFXI and have fond memories but I simply don't have the free time to spend another year of my life camping Fafnir every day to get a ridill.
Oh my god...OH MY GOD OHHHHHH GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!
Lick my ball-sack NERD
We're talking about a nearly 20 year old game during its prime. We're all fucking nerds here, Juanito.
Scary to fall in back then, even scarier now that the mobs there got replaced with level 90 variants.
>burrito nigger
where my windurst niggas at
>had a guy in my endgame linkshell who spent 6 million gil to buy the white panties subligar from an NPC
>was infamous around the server for a solid year or so until there was another widely available panties subligar and people stopped wondering what the fuck he was wearing
I guess the thread is dead now, mates. It's been a pleasure while it lasted.

Getting the item to spawn Pandemonium Warden in the first place requires weeks of effort.

>that first time you got scale mail and a spatha to hit the dunes. The lizards that died to that sword...
Republican Subligar was BiS for most melee classes all the way to 75. Well, there were a few upgrades, but they were uncommon as fuck. You ran around with battle mitts, a harness, a republican subligar, and goddamn leaping boots with your two +stat rings you'd bested ass to get. Perhaps a hairpin if that damn paladin did not flash and jack the claim.
>bee spatha +1
>whopping +2 accuracy
>feel like a literal god
I remember making juice and farming crawler silk to buy one. You were THE long dick in the pugil group if you could make juice for the mages.
Would make more sense for them to modernize FFXI as it is now. Get rid of playonline and make the game run better.
Building "classic" FFXI from the ground up is a bone headed move as it wouldn't last any longer than classic WoW will. Classic WoW will be a ghost town after the free month. Current FFXI is a better game anyway, and all current players won't want to give up all their progress to start up again to try to recapture the feelings from a bygone era. All the rose tinted goggles clad idiots who would actually do that are already on nasomi, and they're vastly outnumbered by retail FFXI players even in this day and age.

I like the Susan Calloway version well enough and you can barely understand what the singer is saying in this version, but this is still my favorite version of Distant Worlds. I was crying like a fucking baby after the adrenaline rush of finally beating CoP and then hearing this song, I'll never forget it. I'll never recapture that feeling again.
thanks for the long good XI thread bros
It's amazing to think this is a MMO intro, I miss those days lads, I wish I could play again.
>spend days farming up enough gil to buy the spells to get through the dunes
>Bonarpant
Fuck if a code rollback is not impractical. I want my goddamn TRUE progression server. Even more autistic than P1999 patches. I WANT TO FARM THE ROYAL JELLY BCNM FOR UTSU AND IT MATTER DAMNIT.

DUDE I REMEMBER THESE GUYS
Alexander for life
We making obis tonight?
It's such a mindfuck to fight this same mob in XIV when you fought the original in XI. I still feel dread when I see it.
Does it do anything special in XIV or do you just stand out of its orange circles
Shit just wasn't the same after the merge with Shiva.
Stand out of the orange wedges and dispel its buff. That's it.
I was really let down.
Never played FFXI, but god damn I miss old artwork for video games. Such soul.
no charm? no nasty as fuck dot? no double attack crits?
Alexander was a fucking mess, Shiva couldn't handle us
Yeah that sounds about right
Breaking new ground with the dispel, too
It's got a pull in move followed by an AOE that you gotta run out of, a big AOE you gotta run out of, wedge AOE you gotta run out of, a lightning AOE centered around a player you gotta run away from, and a defense buff you gotta dispel.
That's it.
>solo playing ff11 recently for the first time
>collecting BLU spells with my trusts in this weirdo eldritch zone
>this thing suddenly swooces down from above, strips me naked and has his way with me
what the fug
>ragnarok online
please stop bro...
WoW Classic is in a completely different scenario than a potential XI classic.
>Everyone including casuals dislikes modern WoW
>Massive amounts of bad mechanics and design changes over the years that cannot be rolled back
>Economy totally fucked
>Story nearly drained of content (can't even make WC4)
>It's 15 years old anyway and regardless of quality is near the end of it's lifespan
What WoW Classic has the opportunity of doing here is being a new path for the game to follow, Retail is about tapped out and if Classic does well enough it could be their "WoW 2" so to speak
FFXI is a different case because here we aren't dealing with just one game that we want to roll back time on, in this case we actually have a followup MMO that already exists. Now while the two are completely different games it stands to be said that everyone who played originally has already moved on and the vastly different XIV and current gaming landscape simply doesn't mesh well with what XI originally was. Basically WoW Classic serves a purpose and has a potential future while FFXI Classic is a completely and utterly pointless venture.
I would however like a standalone/single player/sandbox offline version of XI to explore in, just to make sure that the world of vanadiel is always alive no matter what happens to the servers.
>it's another shitty XIV crossover
they will not bleed XIV numbers to attract people to XI.
Can do most xi end game with like 5-7 friends dude, shit's not hard
At those early levels it really did make a difference considering weapon proficiencies were usually low.
The AH price was ridiculous compared to a regular one though
Bunch of wuss tags.
Eve Online players regularly do 20+ hour fleet battles and ops and never complain
>Leaping Boots
Holy shit the ptsd from lizzy is still there.
>its a Friday night in the middle of summer
>you've got a case of pepsi blue
>You've got TechTV on in the background
>You've finally hit it off with the cute elvaan ranger in your Astronomy class
>You're farming pots and golems in sky on your monk abusing the fuck out of their blunt damage weakness.
>A group is fighting Despot off in the distance
>Your group lasts until well past breakfast the next day
I want to go back.

Like 30% of XIV content is ripped directly from XI, they don't even need to do crossovers.
That's a private server code thing in general. BLM and smn are the best ways to do stuff cuz to feed is real bad on the emulated code
And yet they still did. Glad XI only bothered with DQ and XIV for crossover bullshit and that was very minimal at most.
Were those post Abyssea? I'm glad XI during the golden years never had crossovers, MMOs shouldnt do stuff like that.
