Crossbows are cooler and easier to handle for weak sissy bitches like me.
x-bow because it allows you to use and become proficient to a long range weapon with minimal stat investment
Name one game with actual fun ranged combat.
The original Age of Chivalry mod had a fun archer class, not sure how it is as a full retail game on a different engine though.
2h sword because I'm not a ranged or shield faggot
Ragnarok online.
Unironically Skyrim
It's the only combat I can stomach in that game.
Guns.
heavy crossbow > shortbow > longbow > light crossbow
Bows all the way african american!
You forgot to put Composite longbow as numero uno
bows for people on their own, crossbows for formations of men
Bows but crossbows are cool but irl take ages to load. Bows can fire an arrow I believe 4 to 5 the rate of a crossbow. At some stage I'd like to try to learn how to use a bow and arrow properly
Mount and Blade's is simplistic but fun. The crossbow is fun when it has a proper punch to it. I don't mind slow reload for high damage. When a crossbow is just a bow damage wise (or worse, see Mordhau) but lets you wait to use it and it has a quick reload I don't see the point.

I like stronghold, bow for range/superior numbers, xbows for taking down heavy armored attackers. Though ultimately I end up massing crossbowmen toward the end into a deathball.
I didn't do stronghold but that's the optimum system. I'm not sure on range - 3kTW has crossbows eclipse arrows in range (which except for smaller ammo count ends up making regular arrows redundant. Range is king unless damage or speed of firing is so much more powerful that you can make up for a period of being shot at and not being able to shoot back), I am not sure of the historical fact on crossbows outranging arrows. Though ideally range would dictate damage as I believe it does in M&B.
Also Longbows are overhyped and a composite bow is objectively superior in quality, eclipsed only by the cheapness of a longbow and it's durability for humid conditions. It's simply that it was novel for a Western European army to so extensively use and rely upon archery and it fuels the mythos of some 360 noscope super WMD weapon.
Crossbows are obviously much, much easier. Idk if anyone has ever fired a real, wooden bow and arrow, but it is very very difficult
The problem with bows and xbows is there's so little different you can do with them. It's always fire arrow, multishot, pinning shot....No variety. What about a arrow that, if you fire it, it stays fired forever? So like it's really powerful but whenever it stops, it travels back to you and goes forth again. Sounds good until you have to time your shop visits so the foreverarrow won't impale the shopkeeper.
rocks
I prefer guns.
crossbow because it can be one handed.
Crossbows are so fucking rad. The automatic crossbow was so fucking good, it was banned in America for being so efficient and so silent. I'm pretty sure it still is banned.
