This odachi parry looks cool. You can also link your skills directly after quick or strong attacks when using the hatchets. For example, do a few quick attacks and immediately finish with demon undercut without needing to ki pulse in between.

it upsets me so fucking much how people discredit this game like some "dlc", it already brings way more new stuff to the game than other "real sequels" like Dark Souls 2 or 3 did, and it's just a fucking alpha
still, the best part is that they nailed the level design so perfectly in the alpha, it gives me hope that the whole game is going to be like this, in which case Nioh2 is going to be fucking 10/10 perfect.

Alpha had three weapons and one ranged weapon with one ammo type, the Beta added another weapon and the two ranged weapons with their ammo, and the Last Chance Trial had the fifth weapon. Each one also added more skills and changed how existing ones worked.

I think that's what the strengthening the weapon part refers to, the damage doesn't look like it changes. Blessed weapons seem nuts though, they let you Ki Pulse on a successful block.
I do love all the new stuff and they seem to be going in an excellent direction in that regard but I wouldn't quite say it's perfect, damage still seems far too high on the player's end without them making use of the mechanics, getting rid of Wind instead of the much cheesier less fun Lightning makes no sense unless it has a different effect, and there's a lot of other smaller concerns that aren't being addressed. I hope they know what they're doing, and that they understand that they know.

it's a niche thing, dude. not everybody wants to play the same game all the way up to ng+++++, Nioh becomes a bit of a slog; some people would call that an understatement. The levels are boring as hell compared to something like Sekiro, and the story beats are so sparse they're essentially window dressing. it's not a perfect game, it's just a really fun combat+skill system stuck in a bloated grindfest. A more concise story, shorter game with less repetition... that would've made a classic. as it is it just loses its character after a while

Here's the funny thing though: despite all the fantastical elements, Nioh is a remarkably good primer on the real history of the end of the Sengoku period. They did not need to go into nearly as much detail about the leaders and generals you interact with, but they did, and I ended up walking away from the game with a better understanding of Japanese history and culture than I have from some actual Japanese History courses. I guess that's the plus of making a samurai action game with the same company that does the Warriors/Musou series.
