Still mediocre
Pretty much trust your own taste. Video games are subjective. Plenty of fun games have low metacritic scores.
The great plateau was basically critic bait. The rest of the game feels shitty in comparison. It’s a nice tech demo, hopefully they’ll make an interesting world to explore next time
>Plenty of fun games have low metacritic scores.
Name one
COPE
PMD Explorers of Sky
lol you are so upset
Shitty bait thread.
We get it, BotW is a masterpiece, all heil Nintendo, Game Of Generation, Snoybois seething. Can we please move on now?
No, BOTW is a genuinely great game.
Odyssey now that game was really overrated.
I never understood why it is so highly rated
Can someone explain what BotW does so well that it deserves this score?
I think it's not that good, hampered by too much padding content, lack of focus and dissapointing narrative
The master sword was probably the most dissapointing thing about this game, completely gamebreaking in strength for the divine beasts and just plain awful for the rest of the game, what was the point of making it have durability as well? It's nonsensical
Climbing, chemistry system, multiplicity, and the best world design ever
Insanely well done physics system and game mechanics when considering its for a young audience.
>Climbing, chemistry system, multiplicity, and the best world design ever
Why lie? Those are shit.
Faggot
Plateau was a training area and also gave link all the TOOLS he needs to beat the fucking game at 3 hearts running straight toward the final boss.
Which the game doesn't STOP YOU FROM DOING.
>multiplicity
Can you elaborate on that? I think you mean breadth but I'm not sure
>the best world design ever
I think that's a really bold statement and not one I would subscribe to
Xenoblade Chronicles has better world design in my opinion (for instance)
>chemistry system
The way I see it, the cooking is a novelty gimmick that makes collecting stuff more engaging and worthwhile but it also has drastic effects on gameplay difficulty, especially when paired with the pause menu item usage
Splatterhouse reboot
Doesn’t change what he said
Now post the user score
Becoming an adult is realizing TP is the best 3D zelda.
>Can someone explain what BotW does so well that it deserves this score?
Game Design.
This my nigga is top kino 3d zelda.
The intro had me tear up when link on a horse then turned into the wolf.
Odyssey doesn't hold a candle to sunshine. but sunshine has a lower metacritic score. Yea metacritic scores dont fucking matter.
The reason BotW gets such praise is because of it's Game Design. It's a completely open world where you literally can "climb that mountain". You are not bound by the traditional shackles of open world environments - you are free to do anything, go anywhere, even right to the end of the game if you want. There are no barriers, no invisible tunnels to funnel you through the world, no cheap progression deadends, no fences blocking your path. BotW lets you climb right over the fence.
In other open world games, getting from one place to the next involves nothing more than pointing your character in the correct direction your minimap and pushing UP on the joypad as you move along a flat trajectory. In BotW, verticality adds depth and makes exploration FUN and ENGAGING. Getting from one place to the next involves - get this - PLAYING A FUCKING GAME.
Then consider the sheer wealth of options available to you as you explore and how these options are integrated organically into the gameplay meaning that YOU decide how to fashion your own solutions to problems presented to you. It doesn't feel binary like other games. 15 months on and people are STILL finding new ways to accomplish stuff.
Then on top of all this player agency, you have intricate interconnected systems of environment, weather, climate and physics which inform the player and encourage them to adapt to the world around them. Its not a sterile world.
This is just the base foundation of the game. There's an entire world of questing and adventure built on top of this. There's too much to mention.
Haters will scoff but they can't argue against it. Because there IS NO arguing against it.
And to consider that Nintendo coded this on a Wii U - A FUCKING WII U, literally 12 year old tech - is absolutely astonishing.
Top tier music, top tier atmosphere, hard puzzles, satisfying combat, Pls nintendo port TP for the 3rd time in a row.
The only thing memorable about TP is the final boss and finale.
It was okay. Definitely one of the better open world games, though that isn't a particularly high bar to pass.
Midna's lament
The true Zelda red pill is acknowledging that OoT has not aged well.
Ocarina of time fans are just boomer nintendo shills. Game is wholey overrated.
I'M MAD! REE
t. mashitra's shitmask shill
Just play it
Agreed, at least this game was challenging in the sense it killed me.
with Odyssey there was almost no punishment, you die, restart to last save :)
Which saves every fuckin 3 minutes.
Sure but the lackluster melee combat and maligne d vision of creating 200 shrines instead of 5-10 proper dungeons (the divine beasts were okay but they were too short, I would love to see big dungeons with the interactivity they have though, rotating body parts and all) puts a big damper on my willingness to play it
Sure I can go anywhere I want at any time, and rain is cool and completely fucks my ability to climb and all but to what end? I can't make my own fun (I mean that I am literally unable to, not that the game doesn't allow for it), it's why I get bored of stuff like Minecraft or Ark within minutes too
All the quests and side content in the game, except for the shrines, feel completely meaningless since they don't often have worthwhile tangible rewards
It's like playing one of those sidescrolling H-Games and having your heroine get raped by a passerby zombie or something, you get a neat animation but it has no impact on your character whatsoever (in most cases), whereas in Violated Heroine for instance you have several stats that can change your character noticeably, like enjoying the rape or literally crying at the thought of being touched by someone
Character rogression in BotW is just that, a change in numbers, you don't get more powerful in a way that makes you feel good ( I have trouble explaining it so I hope you get it)
I could never see this game as anything other than a mildly dissapointing 7-8/10 because the stuff I enjoy most in video games (in the Zelda games in particular) was either very dumbed down or missing entirely
I've just replayed Oot, MM, WW and TP (in that order) and so far TP is the most enjoyable. Rerunning those games mean you spend most of your time in temples and everybody knows its TP's strongest aspect. It also helps that I really like midna's smugness and the dark sci-fi atmosphere. Truly kino.
Absolutely based. All this does is prove that 97% of games "journalists" are complete hacks that didn't play past 10-20 hours at most. The game completely front loads everything it has. The first few hours are great, but the appeal rapidly wears off as you realize you've seen everything the game has to offer and it's all ctrl+c, ctrl+v for the rest of the game.
Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness got a 64 on Metacritic while Gamefreak's pokemon games consistently get above 85. If that doesn't prove the fallability of Metacritic I don't know what will.
Wow, I wasn't expecting to see so much BASED in one thread. And yes, Nintendo needs to port Twilight Princess Wii U to the Switch. My dream would be a 60fps port, but even getting it ported at all would be great.
>since they don't often have worthwhile tangible rewards
So you haven't played it
Spirit orbs or whatever they're called are basically the BOTW version of xp points for the game's extremely limited 2 stat rpg system. There's no sense of surprise in what you're gonna get for beating the dungeon. It's always the same thing. A spirit orb and if you're extremely lucky maybe a mediocre weapon that will break after fighting 2 enemies
truth
As edgy teenager I liked TP most. I still do
Give me some examples of worthwhile rewards from quests then
The orbs at least have a use since more stamina is always good
Metacritic doesn't mean anything. I've played video games before most people had broadband in their house.
Midna is great. People soured on the whole sidekick idea after Fi because Fi was an absolutely horrible sidekick, but I wish they would bring back sidekicks, or at least let you communicate with Zelda remotely so she can act as a "helper" character.
>at least let you communicate with Zelda remotely so she can act as a "helper" characte
>Zelda would be able to see what Link does at given moment
Imagine all this doujin and jelly material.
Almost every side quests gives you a reward of some kind. It gives you locations where you can find weapons that respawn, a house, horses, the lab, recipes, armor, rune upgrades. Virtually every side quest does this, it feeds the exploration loop. I've played most open world games and BotW does it best by far because helping people actually mattered. One quest was simply to take a photo of every animal you encountered, in other games it would simply be a wiki and that's it.
>Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness
4 hour long game that only serves as a way for you to catch johto pokemon in the third gen. plus this entire game is recycled from stadium/Colosseum assets. soulless cash grab incarnate.
the true Zelda redpill is realizing OOT is the only 3D Zelda that plays closest to a 2D Zelda
> soulless cash grab incarnate
Accurate description of Gamefreak's games. XD and colosseum were SOUL central. XD actually expanded on Colosseum and nearly doubled the number of areas, unlike GameFreak's "expanded" versions like BW2 and USUM which add fuck all.
based and contrarian pilled.
>never played Daggerfall
Bitch, Botw is barely an open world game in comparasion to what you can do and be in Daggerfall.
Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn on the PS4.
You should remove this before you get hurt.
I played that game for the first time last month and I fucking loved it. I heard everyone was gay for it and expected it to be overhyped shit. But that game was honestly fun as fuck, if I had nostalgia attached to it I could only imagine. I'm replaying it again for the 3rd time rn. It has replayability like a motherfucker. Anyone who hates this game (like myself) either hasn't played it, sucks at it, or is just trying too hard to be contrary.
Most Sony Playstation 4 games.
Yeah, Yea Forums just likes to hate on classic games everyone likes, while praising mediocre games that are not as popular in order to sound cool.
