That game is so fucking comfy in a spooky way. I'm actually feeling like replaying it again with the puzzles on hard. Some of the paper researching can be pure bullshit to be honest but the atmosphere is good. Wish the second game wasn't so forgettable.

Scratches also comes close to it. I certainly would play more of those comfy first person manson exploring horror games if I knew more of them.

I don't get the appeal of dead cells. Not hating on it but I feel like i'm missing something. It looks like a mess.

It takes a little while to get used to, but it has really nice progression, music, and art. And the combat and movement is just so smooth, and when you get a good run with killer items and you're just carving through enemies and not getting hit once... goddamn it's good. Somehow everything kind of works in the end, but you really have to give it a few hours before it starts picking up. The game is perfect for switch btw, longest runs are like 30 min.

Neither, it's basically a meaningless term if you try to connect the actual man's works together but I would say the closest usage you could get for it is "an air of the unknown and unknowable". Shit's about secrecy and things forbidden to humans far more than it is about some tentacled fuck swlooping about space or any black goat of the woods.
Go read "The Hound", it has the barest of connection to the Cthulu mythos but is still very much a lovecraftian horror too it. The things the reader is meant to fear are never solidly defined even when described, something you're never meant to understand.
