What was your childhood MMO, Yea Forums?
What was your childhood MMO, Yea Forums?
I was already a teenager by the time MMOs were a thing
Ultima, after that RS2
i spent a huge amount of time in everquest before starting my decade in wow
fuck jagex
for me its graal online
Shadowbane.
I didn't get into MMOs until I was in my 20s.
i still get the urge to go back but it's a weird f2p mess now
Runescape
Maplestory
Endless Online
God Shadowbane was such a disappointing shitshow
I was 12. Planetside caught my attention a year later but this was my first initiation outside of Club Penguin and a few smaller kiddie browser mmos.
red ninja out there holding a dildo
Dofus.
Flyff, and thanks for making me more disgusted at it
Tibia and Maplestory.
Maplestory still is, Tibia no since it became pay to win instead subscription based.
Trickster Online
Just a few I played. Flyff I spent a lot of time with, as well as Gunbound. Lunia was fun for a minute. My heart yearns for Drift City though.
Maplestory
youtube.com
The only good MMO was Asheron's Call.
>Tfw the original composer from Maplestory is dead
>Barely anyone from Wizet still works at nexon because they retired
Project 1999 is pretty good, my only complaint is lack of display support on modern OS which really annoys me
Rumble fighter now that was a shitty mmo
>>Tfw the original composer from Maplestory is dead
I didn't even know that. Fucking motherfucker.
Dead Frontier
It will never come back.
Flyff, Final Fantasy XI, and ROSE Online.
Where my SWG boys at?
This game was so fucking good, that jungling combo system was so damn satisfying.
JOINING PQ@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Es grand fantasia
Vanilla WoW. Bummed I missed out on prime EQ.
God I hope I'm not still here when I'm your age.
Ragnarok online. It hurts
user Maplestory is 16 years old, it has been in life support for a long time and only gets new content because it makes 2 Billion per year in korea alone.
>childhood mmo
not some dumb gook shit
Runescape, WoW and SWG
Runescape and Guild Wars.
Runescape
NexusTK. I miss it. I think about going back sometimes but I never do. I think it's because it doesn't have the old graphical style I grew up with.
p99 was great on launch but now it's just a janitor circle jerk
Adventure Quest
Runescape. I also played some MMO called "Evil Flames" which was renamed into "Heroes Land"(I think?). No idea whatever happened to it.
i had a pretty healthy childhood, had a shitload of real life friends and went outside and had a bunch of real adventures every day. my memories from playing maplestory are on par with my real life childhood memories, its a shit cash cow game but it had so many surprisingly cool mechanics that made it feel so organic and adventurous. riding the ships with other players, scaling the 100 floor tower, drop games, free market, spawning high level monsters in low level towns, there was so much freedom it made the world feel real
Runescape 2
then MU online
then WoW
Runescape. Didn't have internet at my place so I played at the public library. I grew up in a very small town, but somehow the library had enough computers for every single kid to be able to play Runescape together. They didn't even mind us putting our membership subs on the telephone bill.
10six. Yes, Sega had the world's first MMORTS.
Silkroad Online. I remember waking up super early because the servers were always full.
I miss the bot konga lines.
There. Never heard of it after I dropped it, and I don't know if it was really an MMO, but I sunk a ridiculous amount of time into it. Met some interesting people, got close to one, and then never heard from them again.
MU
WoW was the first mmo I ever played but it was when I was already a teenager. I was a normal kid before then.
People liked MMO back then because that was a fast way to be connected with people, you could log in and see them connected and ready to chat.
When technology evolved, it was easier to be conected to people, you were actually connected 24/7. No need to log in to stuff to see other people, just a message and you could reply wherever you wanted.
I don't know how to explain it, but I know somehow this two arguments are connected. I'm just to tired to think
Ultima/everquest when I was too young to even read I remember going to CompUSA to get EQ on launch then as a young literate lad I played a lot of lineage/L2 and Anarchy Online
I mean, it still there. You could play it on your phone, now.
>tfw this game released on my birthday
>the perfect gift
For me, its Runescape 05 and Guild Wars
>BUT GW IS NOT A MMO
Well fuck you, it is. Also Cleave > Eviscerate
Fuck, I spent way too much time on There...
The problem with private servers is that only the elite players return to do them. You don't get the casuals and sheep like you would did in the original classic run. EQ was made by the fact so much was unknown about it. It wasn't until the Velious expansion that people started getting a clue. Even on my rather hardcore PvP server Tallon Zek the average person was fucking clueless as to the deeper mechanics of the game. If you go play on 1999 everyone knows the exact best in slot items and the mathematics formula behind the stats. Up until.. some time in the mid to late 2000s the spawn pattern of the Ancient Cyclops was still somewhat myth and only revealed by a former developer on a forum post. Even 10 years after the game had launched the AC was a somewhat closely guarded secret.
The best mmo that ever was
swg jump to lightspeed, imagine my shock when every mmo in the future was complete shit
PUBG
>redownload old childhood mmo
>go to the popular places and spots I liked
>its a wasteland
>get sad remembering all the people I met
Before they ruined it.
>Childhood
>MMO
this.
MMOs werent a thing until I was at University.
This shit gave me tetris effect
>long onto runescape for first time in at least a decade
>can't remember how you met anyone on your friends list
>none of them are online
>realize you'll probably never see them online again
feels fuckin real bad man
Fusionfall
iktf
They're probably on OSRS.
I miss FLYFF so much
I was a NAT on Delteria
All I remember was buggies going off ramps on a beach and sometimes blocking other people on the ramps, driving around empty landscapes for long times, and occasionally finding these tucked away places and hanging out with friends. I don't know if there was even gameplay, aside from this one person who kept making scavenger hunts with prizes.
It shows you if they're on OSRS or not when you log in user.
Why the fuck is there a Cock and Ball Torture event?
Loved XI but was pretty shit at it.
ROSE on the other hand, I really liked.
The amount of people camping certain mobs for a drop (like that giant fish guy) made it a decent community
i didn't and never have played MMOs
n/a but NWN online was pretty close
Fuck, same here.
Why am I so young? I hate being a zoomer.
Why is Goku holding a pink dildo?
Started final fantasy 11 when i was 13. My entire teenage life was spent on that game. Friendships. Romance. All of it.
Playing Adventure Quest Worlds in middle school - met this guy named Sequitor who was a lot higher level than me and helped me through quests and shit. Said he had a kid and couldn't play as much as he wanted to... wonder what hes up to these days.
/join dragon-9999
Maplestory
Mabinogi
Does rakion count as an mmo?
Unironically, 4Story. I can't remember much about it, plus, it never was big.
Does Phantasy Star Online count? I have some weird stories from those days
Damn the game was utter trash but the sprites had so much SOUL
There's also a gacha game but shit's never going global
runescape and FIESTA ONLINE BABYYYYYYYYYYY
yes that counts. Too bad Sega went full faggot on PSO2.
>ctrl+f WoW
>3
Pathethicc.
Came here to post this.
BR BR BR? free itens plox! Gib or I report you!
Brb I' gonna go afk while I train my defense on these rotworms.
man, the old days when i had "finished" free runescape but couldnt afford membership and had to find a free mmo
You mean the mmo that destroy the mmo genre?
>that malistaire final boss fight in dragonspyre
pure kino
Played Ultima with my Dad, but the first MMO I really got into was asheron's call.
I wish instead of PSO2, we got PSU/Po/Po2 but better.
this piece of shit
did no one play swg as a kid? yikes
I was a poorfag. Runescape was all I had at the time.
Seen it before, but I was never into Star Wars
ma nigga
where my tkm/fencer chads at
Habbo Hotel with my Yea Forumstards.
Rifle/Doc at your service.
Whats the goto 4 Chan MMO in 2019 but without p2w?
I remember getting scammed from one of those free clash of clan gems when i was small. I learned my lesson.
niggers don't know 'bout my Nexus
fucking BASED
>he didnt roll Hawker
shiggy diggy
The one that is on the bandwagon at the moment. Right now is City of Heroes, and Vanilla WoW when it get release.
im surprised theres at least one person on this board that remembers this ancient eastern trashfire
never got past like level 30 because i've never been able to commit to mmo's long term
except runescape, i put so many hours into that game and i have no idea why
EQ, my only love. I take breaks for other games here and there, but I always come back. Raiding and grouping is just completely unique and I've never found another game that did either of them nearly as well.
The lore really gets me though, even if it gets a little silly at times it's all so well put together and consistently scratches that high fantasy Ad&d esque itch in a way that even singleplayer games can't.
>not based rifleman/combat medic
you'll never get close enough to make me floppy fish
These fags only played gook shit
>Lost all my screenshots of Flyff with all my memories after my HDD died
It hurts bro...
>Nobody said Toontown
After 18 years I still keep going back to Rubi-Ka
>Dad wouldn't let me play games that required subscription fees
>All I had was the fuckhuge strategy guide
>Had to spend my childhood poring over it imagining the game I never got to play
This is the one I remember the most, I tried some others but I liked FF because it was and open-world MMO with action-combat and i had never seen a game do that before.
Priston Tale (f2p Korean grindfest)
While I could say you could play SWG Emu/Legend, it won't be the same. It never will. This kind of shit pisses me off since I wanted to play FF11, Everquest 1/2, and WoW but couldn't because fucking Poverty. Now, I have a house, a job, my retirement, but I didn't get to enjoy those mmo. Seriously, fuck Subscription Fee.
patrician taste user
That's actually really sad user what the fuck
Granado Espada, I still miss my old pals in the factions.
i miss it lads
Horizons: Empire of Istaria.
Best crafting system I have even seen in an mmorpg. I'm still getting urges to go back.
Lunia was fun as hell, if not s crazy grind. I was disappointed when it turned p2w but I still have many hours of fun learning to combo as sieg and dainn in pvp
I see we have some chads in the house
Silk Road
I played something similar, it was called Hibernia Online. I can't find any screenshots at all unfortunately.
I miss this game so much, I want to play it again now that I'm not a young dumbass anymore
Pirates of the Carribean Online
You're here forever.
This looks comfy, is it endless online?
i'm 12 and what is this?
>having just one
nigga I played the majority of the games on the mmorpg.com list in the 2000s
RS Classic, Tibia
Scions of Fate, Hero Online, Mu Online, Drift City
RF Online, Mabinogi, Dragon Nest
ArcheAge, Skyforge
I want to play a good mmo that isn't FFXIV, squeenix is reeing at my account. Any suggestions?
Beta tested for this game. My friend is eternally salty that I'll be one year ahead of him in special frames/rewards each anniversary.
>first char was a paladin
>realise they're nothing like lore paladins and are fucking archers
>a lifetime of training being forced to pick up the spears you threw
fuck it was painful
wow classic
old ass tibia was pure kino
City of heroes/Osrs
are you me user
>when you realize it's pronounced "fliff" and not fly-F-F
>Vanguard
I miss my cute fox.
Astonia 2. It wasn't really that great, but young me had his mind blown by destructive environments and its enemies were mainly discovered through mining
Flaris. Home. At least it used to be before gPotato fucked everything up.
Yeah, the day blessings were added the game went downhill and fast.
There have been no MMOs since that got the social aspect correct. That was what made Maplestory thrive despite being a shitty korean grindfest.
The fact that games still don't implement a buddy list chat or private chat rooms is mind boggling to me.
It's also why Maplestory will never come back. Can't recreate that social aspect without an actual playerbase.
Nobody posts ROSE online in this thread
Yea Forums doesn't know what ROSE online is
did you fuckers never play this?
...
>tfw your first childhood MMO was FFXI
I was a lucky kid
who composed the flyff soundtrack? i hope they still make bangers like this desu.
ToonTown was my shit! It's still running in the community as ToonTown Rewritten (or if you prefer new, ToonTown Corporate Clash.)
Get your nostalgia fill, user.
>actually listening to advice from POL
Sherwood
yeah, well, that isn't iROSE so it doesn't fucking count
Perfect World
No one play lineage 2 here? The pvp was fun
I usually played valikoria and Era when it first started
>"farm pa"
>Typical Filipinos in MMOs
Pottery
wheres my pirate niggas
Guild Wars.
Now and always.
>implying anybody ever did
That shit was my life when I first started playing in the Summer
So many good memories
How the hell is that game still updated? They kill a 1/3 of anet workforce because they weren't working on GW 2.
If I wanted to start that up again, how easy would it be to just play with the AI people you can hire? Is there also any classes that are better solo or with those henchmen?
2-man skeleton crew keeping the game afloat
Eve online, a shame ccp were incompetent.
flyff. I still think about the friends I made 10 years ago.
>all these wowfags sperging out over their shitty little game
>meanwhile I'm already home
flyff, the ost made it seem better than it actually was
I assume one of that person is Linsey Murdock? I know she LOVE working on GW 1.
Glory Destiny, Cosmic Break (beta), and Rusty Hearts. I miss all three.
To all the flyff lads, private servers are still alive and are very fair to new players. Check em out some time
If you played Tibia and RS, you've played em all
Assuming it was RuneScape Classic and pre Tibia 8.2
Mesmer, my dude.
MU Online, the poor man's Diablo clone
I still wonder how the fuck they kept the servers up for free for the first several years. There wasn't even a p2p option
My little faggot self was all over the place when it came to MMOs.
>Runescape
>Free Realms
>Pirates of the Caribbean Online
>FusionFall
>Maplestory
This is not counting the ones I only put a few hours into like Toon Town, Wizard 101, or Club Penguin, and I'm sure there's some other shit I'm forgetting.
Even little me knew it was garbage, I put 20 minutes into the free trial and binned that shit
MU
I would get out of class early just to use my lunch money to get myself an hour at the cyber cafe.
Goddamnit I loved Mu back then.
>not pronouncing it as "flife"
>I still wonder how the fuck they kept the servers up for free for the first several years. There wasn't even a p2p option
The servers were coded properly and could be run from shitty servers, it wasnt expensive since the game wasnt that big anyway.
Ragnarok Online lol...
Ultimate furry mmo.
