Fps with great concept that takes place in several time periods

>fps with great concept that takes place in several time periods
>able to use arms from those respective time periods, use weapons from one time in another, and fight past wars with future weaponry
>tight gunplay
>long and satisfying campaign
>majority of that good shit gets lost due to dev studio flooding three weeks before deadline
Has there ever been a bigger JUST in the history of game development?

I actually played it when it came out because it was such an interesting concept. It was definitely janky, obviously not AAA.

I have been waiting 5 years now for it to go on sale

It was a tech demo that lead to this rendering engine:

>fighting in the civil war with assault rifles while everyone else is using time period weaponry
>that final level where you're fighting roman legionaries with an automatic shotgun
This game was wild

Just pirate it, I'm pretty sure the developer doesn't exist anymore

I played the demo of this when I saw it in a magazine I think. You played in the Civil War and using muskets was pretty cool to me since most games I played had either modern or future weapons. I never bought it but a little while after I remember X-Play giving it a 1 out of 5.

is this like timesplitters (SEQUEL WHEN)

If only it had more time periods that varied more in weaponry. Most of it was WW1.

The writers painted themselves into a corner before they did anything really interesting. The RPG mechanics could be thoroughly ignored. The game had some neat ideas and the post credits shooting gallery was a surprise.

Really? Painted? That's the word you fucking use?

>>tight gunplay
no
the gunplay was alright with the civil war guns but everything after was boring or shit

Maybe if they BACKED UP THEIR SHIT theyd be fine
God youd think a studio would know the importance of backups

They probably had the backups on site. Stupid shit like that happens all the time. Hell Toy Story 2 almost got deleted while it was being made.

Always have atleast one back up offsite
Hell have atleast 3
Cant backup enough

That's how the expressions goes, is it not?

When discussing writers you'd usually say they wrote themselves into a corner.

>>majority of that good shit gets lost due to dev studio flooding three weeks before deadline
Tell me more.

Did ya get very far?

Not much else. They lost everything in the flood so the had to rebuild it from the ground up in three weeks. Resulting in a lot of cut content and a criminally shorter game. It was their first game, the company went tits up after that.

What a tragedy.

That's not true at all...

The phrase "wrote themselves into a corner" is just an appropriation of and reference to the saying "painted themselves into a corner."

Think about it--literally painting oneself into a corner is a thing people have actually done, and it serves as an apt metaphor for many situations, including writing. Nobody has ever literally written themselves into a corner. That only makes sense as an adaptation of the "painting" phrase.

kek, this is exactly what happened in the game

I know people hated GATE for all the "muh JSDF" stuff but I loved scenes like this one and the one with the helicopters.

>muh JSDF
What's wrong with the JSDF?

Not him, but this is the first time I've ever thought about this phrase.

It's written by a former JSDF member and people think it's recruitment propaganda.

I love this game so much. Found it thanks to Classic game room review. I'm just waiting for it to become backwards compatible to buy it again on xbox one.

I watched the whole first season so far and it has failed to make me want to join the JSDF

what is this
