Honestly, and im not even try to meme here or be ironic, a i can seriously see games in the future start adapting smash brothers like gameplay and using that for something like a marvel fighting game. I feel as if that is going to be the next big thing. You have shit ton of companies now who have tried and tried again using these traditional fighting game styles and yet Ultimate was the most successfully sold fighting game of all time and its only fucking 7 months into its lifetime. They aren't going to give a shit that it was a hyped release or how its the all time sequel to one of the most successful franchise of all time. You're definitely right, though I'm pretty sure several companies tried Smashlike games back when Melee and Brawl were out but they were either incompetently made, tried to go in a different direction or had some weird gimmick (the Playstation Smash clone and arguably Shrek Super Slam come to mind).
