My only complaint with my parents and college is that I'm held to a higher standard than they themselves are. Growing up, neither of them attended college, neither of them aspired to be anything more than an oilfield worker and a receptionist. Yet their hopes for me is that I go on and "do all the great thing they never did."

And that's what bothers me so much. I have no doubt they could've improved their lot more than they did, and the only thing holding them back on that account was their own laziness. While I do not condemn them for that, why expect any better of me?
