The MMO part.

they tried to copy world of warcraft instead of guild wars

Subscription fee

P2W, lootboxes, heavy no point grinds.

This

making them soloable

The good one is still active

"Why are you guys leaving?"

Incompetence that permeates every game development company.

They started introducing Baruna weapons and never nerfed asal properly so BP's were OP as fuck. idk, after the big v17 server merge it lost it's magic.

It's just nuts that once upon a time World of Warcraft captured the entire market, but as World of Warcraft declined, that player base didn't spread into other MMOs, they just disappeared entirely

instancing, taking away the entire point of the mmo genre and making it a subpar story rpg dungeon crawler with a lobby

Catering to solo play and generally dumbing shit down into a brain-dead treadmill routine.
Also communities are so disjointed and hardly matter at all anymore; like what the fuck is the point of the MMO aspect if you only interact with your group or instanced players you will never see again?

people do grow up and move on. That's the problem with a lot of MMOs. There basically a job you come home to and not a game.

Pay 2 Win

But MMORPGS moved to Gacha games where the market is better for them.

Haven't seen this one in a long time.

Didn't it never take off?

Women

It still has updates and people enough at night for wars.

based

What the fuck? I'm surprised anyone even remembers this, why are the reviews fucked?

>tera is unironically the best f2p, action combat, holy trinity mmorpg right now
how far we have fallen

Did all the kmmo makers move to mobile? I miss when there was a new one like every other month

I have been playing this game for several years, and I always hoped that NGD (the games running developers) would eventually fix what they started, but the game has progressively gotten worse. Now I make purchases for in-game currency, and I am charged for what I buy, but I never recieve what I purchased. I sent multiple tickets, called my bank, the whole nine yards. The tickets were responded with uselessthat I really didn't believe. Their responses were just trying to get me to go away, and I still never received my ximerin. They owe me about 400-500 US dollars of in-game currency. DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME! THE COMMUNITY IS TRASH, THEY TREAT NEW PLAYERS LIKE SHIT AND THE DEVELOPERS ARE TOTAL NIGGERS!

WoW made all other shit tier MMOs irrelevant
WoW became shit due to greed, slot machine gameplay and a bunch of art design tailored towards losers (pandaren, kultiran, vulpera, armor/zone design, new char models, etc)

Not enough fapbait character creators

>tfw soe killed plenty of good mmos
>tfw all those dead mmos
>tfw no more niche or unqiue features or just trying out random stuff
>tfw all those mmo you never got to play or play in their prime
>tfw will never make dream mmo

people keep putting their faith into new ones instead of just sticking with the old, tried-and-true MMOs that already have 20 years worth of head start on content.
>WoW
>FFXI
>Eve Online
>Ragnarok Online
>Ultima
>Runescape
>Everquest
>Guildwars
etc etc.
A new MMO WoW-clone with 1 unique gimmick and 2 raids cant compete with 20 years of content.

Never had a problem with my ximerin bro

Every korean trashmmo has a detailed character creator, and they all die because they are korean trash.

The game has a very poor company behind, but its somehow fun, one of the last old school MMO out there.

and gender locked classes...oooo I really hate that. Game breaker for me.

VR will save MMOs, screencap this.

Old School Runescape is still alive

Albion

The golden age was immediately prior to or during the first year of World of Warcraft, when Everquest, Asheron's Call, Dark Age of Camelot, Ultima Online, RuneScape and Anarchy Online were all wildly popular at once.

World of Warcraft ate the whole pie, then the pie itself rotted away and disappeared

i'm looking forward to one called dual universe, it comes out in like 2 years though. it's also a sandbox mmo, not really an rpg

i'd say MMOs started dying when WoW got casualized with that one expansion and FFXI got shot in the kneecaps to make people jump ship to the original FFXIV.
The genre was showing warning signs for years before that though, what with Ragnarok Online having 2 sequels and a spin-off with all of them going bankrupt due to people preferring the original.
