Persona in the west

How do you think a western Persona-like game would work?
What I mean is, Persona is a turn based rpg about high school kids having stands and shit, I don't mean exactly that same situation but what makes Persona games stand out for other jrpgs is that they focus on social life, forming links with people and developing your relationships.
So basically, how would a western game that is an rpg that has a social simulation part?
Obviously we would have more characters like pic related, but what more?

It would be the exact same thing but with tropes about how Japan sees the United States instead of how Japan sees Japan.

>he thinks persona invented RPGs with social simulation

I meant a Persona-like game developed in the West.

Probably something like The breakfast club but with turn based battles

It'll be total nonsense where half the character are progressive stereotypes coming to terms with their:

Blackness
Queerness
Transness
(Dis)ability
Asexuality
LatinX
Privilege
Sexism
Interracial relationship
Mixed parentage
And a normal character.

it wouldnt work unless they did extensive research into the flaws of american society. Persona games are propped up on looking into how japanese society works

No they aren't, they just take stock character and play them out over 10 vignettes and call it an arc.

that list needs a school shooter tbqh

He'll be the homophobic side character who has a change of heart based on your grinding sidequests

more free days since we have that agriculture based school calendar
Social links would probably need to be longer or they would just add the minor arcana (wand, pentacle, cup, sword)

If they make a game set in rural farm country I'd be okay with that.

>Hey Yu you're pretty alright
>Don't come to school tomorrow

Mass Effect 2 was pretty much western Persona

Imma bleach that Sheboon

>that roastie shadow thinks she can make fun of me
>I'll show her, I'll show everyone!
YOSUKE NO!

But being sci-fi it feels so disconnected from our real life world.
The characters of Persona are people who you could meet that suddenly get sucked into fighting ghosts and shit.
It feels pretty different, and Mass Effect 2 also doesn't use the social relationships you make to strenghten your character, the gameplay and visual novel parts are very disconnected.

Honestly speaking this is more of a general persona hope instead of western one in particular. If you have tarot as a central theme of friendships, have more to it. The reverse readings of cards aren't 'evil' or wrong like the reverse/break mechanism of slinks would make you understand it. The linear progression of being constrained to a particular arcana, well, arc makes it yet another sort of predestination going on, while the moral is of choosing for yourself.
What I mean is, have social links split into two routes at about 3/4 stage with people coming to different conclusions and their lives being fundamentally different in both ends. Have the Fortune painter from P3 choose the art route or the doctor career. Have someone like Saki that has to choose between supporting family in Junes or old shop. Heck, have a person's dilemma being gay/les/whatever doubts (since it's a topical dilemma) and present choosing either as a possibility not necessarily better than the other. Have teammates awaken to different Ult Personas. Put it further and make the Fool group link depend on what your teammates decisions were with different endings for both majorities. And make the metaphysical evil final boss twin-natured humanity's collective fear of making important choices (and tying yourself down) and greed of wanting beneficial outcomes of all options you have, since it's a lesson modern people should be told - that you will never have everything - and if you shy away from making your own fate you won't gain anything and lose what you have.
And a token nigger teammate because.

I was working out this idea where it took place in a small college town in the midwest (the only fucking way there would be a way to run around without it being a major city) and native american spirits in a nature preserve/forest wanting to return.

Then I stopped drinking and got on antidepressants and said "this is stupid"

Split it between the last year of high school and the first year of college

I imagine it would be something similar to subverse

god i would hate any game to be full of niggers and mustafas

>Implying a need a shitty persona when I have a shit ton of firearms
