Basically every move you do costs something from your battery meter. So his dodge move will cost one part of his meter to use. The meter also obviously goes down when you draw new attacks but it fills right back up when doing damage among other things. When you sit around just spamming dodge your battery meter just completely drains. It’s a way to make you not spam the dodge. Woolie will sit there and just dodge twice from attacks that aren’t even close to hitting him, and then get really upset when he has no battery meter to make a new attack and then proceed to spend his battery he got from just a timed recharge on another dodge. Proceed to watch this happen for 44+ parts

I put on Matt and Liam's LP of Life is Strange 2. It wasn't the greatest but when you're starving for the old formula it was sweet and delicious.

We never could have predicted that Pat and Woolie would drop the formula. I felt that Liam was never great at contributing to the formula and for that matter neither was Woolie as they refrained from saying dumb shit. The thing that made the Best Friends was the fucking Best Friends Matt and Pat just talking about whatever the fuck came to mind regardless of whatever was on the screen.

I wouldn't want to force them to do LPs if that isn't what they want to do. But every fucking time I get the hint from Woolie that he's not satisfied by the numbers he can suck a dick. They have never acknowledged that the formula worked and was what got them here in the first place; they have never acknowledged that the policy of finishing every fucking game you play in a timely manner was a good fucking policy unlike DmC or RE2. The podcast still has a bit of that spark but they're saying so many fucking wrong and immoral things just like Matt did during the podcast with Bloodborne.

We can assume he lost patience with Pat and exploded. We can also assume Pat in his unsympathetic way made no effort to defuse the situation. The worst way to say it is that Matt was a baby and Pat couldn't stop being an actual asshole.

It could be 60-40 or 40-60; or even as much as 80-20 or 20-80. But it's safe to assume that neither tried to be diplomatic before things were said in response that couldn't be unsaid.

I want to imagine that a sit down and focused conversation about all the good things about the Best Friends would have fixed everything. But given what we see on the podcast, the remaining two don't seem to have any clue about what made them so popular in the first place.

The stagnation on the channel depended on the games they decided to play; there will be ups and downs as they find games that make good LPs and games that make bad LPs. And with God of War they SHOULD have learned that a full-blind LP is shit for conversation because they're lost but is saved and salvaged by having a third person contribute. But they didn't learn. Their business model was a massive package driven by various revenue streams:
- New YouTube video views
- YouTube views of the back catalog
- Podcast ads
- Twitch subscriptions

The YouTube and Twitch numbers fed the podcast ads; the podcast letters being additional engagement that would motivate people to continue watching LPs. What do they have now? A podcast. No back catalog; no new content worth a fuck. Fantastic, I bet those ad companies are super impressed by your numbers - oh wait you don't have them; I guess that means no more ads you dumb fucks.

Matt may never have understood the formula either. But guess what, he's making it on the back of raw effort, supported by the old back catalog AND building a new back catalog. From like 2011 to 2016 or so the Best Friends were pretty much the only lets play channel that I enjoyed besides Game Grumps (we all know how that's turned out). No facecams, no saccharine sweet "I love you my dear subscribers" bullshit, and they played games that I liked to play instead of new AAA releases. After 2016 and around the time that Liam left, it became pretty clear that Matt (not on Castle Super Beast) was getting sick of playing games for money and going on podcasts, and wanted to focus on solo content. It carried on for two years, I stopped giving a shit and only listening to the podcasts, then the whole channel broke down because as most people suspected Matt and Pat hated each other's guts by the end.
CastleSuperBeast is Woolie and Pat (The better half of the old channel) still doing the podcast except they get to talk about whatever the fuck they want, and it's fun to hear the neurotic shit Pat's into and Woolie try and dive in with him. I don't hate Woolie and Pat but boy howdy is Woolie's solo content bad without Pat, and Pat's streams are awful unless you can find a highlight reel.
