Old Weapon designs always return. The main worry should be about the new monsters, since World mons get 1 or 2 unique models at most with the apex predators (Odo, Legiana, etc) getting multiple.

My favourite elder and I wish, but not likely considering Pukei Pukei already shares a lot in common with the design, and Vaal Hazak took its position as status/DOT elder dragon in the Kush/Teo/Cham trinity. Also Cham has a unique skeleton and animations which would be too much work.
Would like to be proved wrong though, and if they introduced it by making you go on a quest to hunt a mysteriously powerful Pukei and it ends up being Cham. Also maybe unique set bonus skill that buffs poison to actually be useful.

all it really lacks is the ridiculous amount of content previous games have and likely some good balance tweaks to better balance the newly added mechanics.
for now just enjoy what Iceborne brings but they need to get the monster count somewhat close to previous Ultimate releases to really make a splash.

When Insect Glaive was first introduced many French players were drawn to the weapon. They also had a penchant for spamming mounts on the monster(Je suis monte!) and then failing to knock the monster down(Pardon). This led to the french Insect Glaive memes with the french guy carrying baguettes.

when mh goes a new generation and tries many new things like underwater 3u, mounting and climbing in 4u etc. there are bound to be some things people dislike at first, but the g-rank versions always try to improve on them
in 3U's case for example, the lack of weapon types and obviously monster count as well as swimming were the big "issues", latter which they couldn't do that much about anymore

World is the best MH game in terms of game flow and mechanical and system variety, its only major weaknesses were shit weapon designs, shit end-game difficulty (Arch Tempered, looking at you) and a small monster roster that lacked variety.
