DSi XL

Alright bros, I can't find my old DSi XL. If I want to play DS games, should I buy another one, or deal with the shitty upscaling and washed out colours on my N3DS XL?

Decide yourself.

I was in the exact same position as you few months ago. Played on a 3ds for a few months then caved in and got a new dsi xl. The games just look so nice and clear on dsi xl plus they are pretty cheap now

>Giving a shit about picture quality when your playing on a XL

lmao

There's nothing wrong with asking for advice from people who might have a bit more experience in what you're asking about. Ultimately OP will be the one to decide once he's weighed up the pros and cons from the answers he gets. Just chill, my man.

it depends how much the way the games look on a 3ds annoy you. i personally deal with it since i like having all my games on one device.

get n3ds/n2ds just so you can get it new. 2nd hand handhelds are a big no

read the op again

read my reply again, if you buy another dsixl its going to come pre installed with aids

the op already has a n3dsxl

my bad, i can't read. I didn't even know ds games looked worse on 3ds compared to ds/dsi. is it a big issue?

Is the screen really pixelated and has a yellowish tint to it? Compared to a dsi or ds lite that is

it looks horrible because of the scaling, everything is blurry and colours are muffled. sprite art is the worst.

That's the plan.
I'll probably buy one, since they're pretty cheap. I'll need to shop around for one that's actually been taken care of, though.
Why would I pay like 3x as much for an inferior experience. I want my DS games to look as good as they can, so I'm not going to buy a N3DS or N2DS when I already have a N3DSXL.

They're stretched out and the colours are really off. You can launch them in the original aspect ratio, but, of course, it also really shrinks down the size of the display.

I had a DSi XL when it came out, but I haven't seen it in a couple of years. I guess my main worry is that I might somehow stumble across my old one after purchasing another one, even though i've already looked everywhere for it.

Just buy one on ebay. It's well worth it. I hate playing DS games on my 3DS.

I'd also like to mention that you can find new-old stock on Amazon. I purchased a brand new DS Lite for ~$60 out of Germany a couple years back, works great.

I meant, is the dsi xl screen pixelated and yellowish compared to the dsi or ds lite. Can you see the pixels while playing at half an arm's distance?

I would, actually got one like a month ago or so used from GameStop for $35, I believe they were running a promotion, but got a DSi XL just because I didn’t like how the N3DS XL displays DS games.

I haven't used a DSi XL in years, but I remember games looking better on it than they did on my DSi or lite.

I actually do own a lite, but it's in pretty dire condition.

How about gba on n3dsxl thats what playing currently, would it be better on dsixl ?

what do you mean

people say DS games look washed out/weird on 3ds. how about gba games on 3ds compared to dsi ?

well emulating gba games on a dsi xl is pretty terrible so I'd avoid it purely on those grounds. However I think GBA games look better than DS games on a 3DS because it's a nicer 1.5x scale rather than a 1.25x scale. It's still subpar though.

tbf the system isn't meant to play gba games

Only played advance wars & mario+luigi superstar so far. They looked nice to me, but maybe im retarded (3dsxl btw)

you can hack the DSI to run games off an SD card now.

can i use any sd card, or is there a maximum capacity

I believe any works nowadays

Any capacity. Although anything above 2GB it's slightly different as the homebrew interface won't load on that but it still works.

dumbass

all the ones i've found on ebay have bad pictures lmao
