Having a 3v3 game with 8 characters could only have ended in disaster

That was the real issue. It needed at least 28 at the start for a 3v3. Could have cheated with 16 if 2v2 was the max but 8 was a fucking joke.

It would have sone better with directional tech on hitstun recovery, like guilty gear, to make the resets less ridiculous.
Assists arent a problem, youre just bad.

Vanilla Skullgirls launched with 8 characters. 2nd Encore launched with 15.

You can't be the spiritual successor to MAHVALBABY! with a roster that's barely 1/4 the size. Even Marvel-fucking-Infinite had the courtesy to launch with 30 characters.

It doesn't fucking matter because all fighting games do terrible unless they have some sort of huge IP attached to them, which equates to a flash in the pan, or are some sort of household name like MK or Smash.
Fighting is just a niche genre and most people have zero interest in it, nor will they ever have any.

This is why F2P fighting games need to be a thing. Aracade-era fighting games were popular because ease of access. Asking somebody to pay 60 bucks just so they can stay in training mode for two hours and then go get their ass kicked online for another three is too high as asking much.

Let 'em in for free and then let cosmetics and Esports pay for the rest.

Esports are the only thing keeping fighting games relevant. Big-budget fighting games can't sustain themselves by only appealing to the hardcore FGC.

FGC old heads are literally the least important demographic to keep in mind when developing a fighting game.

I did and it was inferior in every way to 3. Gameplay was alright but I still preferred 3's.

Being a MvC2 successor was a bad idea because that game was a buggy rush job. Skullgirls had an insane amount of thought and polish put into it, so shackling its gameplay to MvC2 mechanics was just silly. Sure, do a tag game, but did something else with it. You don't need to be Marvel 3 either, do your own thing; they kind of did, but not enough.

Xrd, Skullgirls, and DBFZ are the prettiest in the genre. SamSho is looking pretty nice too, and Punch Planet has a nice look.

Skullgirls would have been better if it was a beat-em-up with motion comic cutscenes

Punch Planet has silk smooth animation, but that's all it has going for it looks wise. Almost none of its characters are aesthetically pleasing or that interesting to look at.

The cow isn't really a grappler, she doesn't even have a real command grab. She's more of just a really well rounded grounded rushdown character who also has a longer version of Raven's scoops.
The llama is the more traditional grappler character that likes to knock you down then make you guess between a low and a command grab, but she's not focused on it so much as she's got every close range mixup tool you can give a character and that includes a command grab, but it's not the focus of her kit either.

Yeah hyper fighting-games can really only sustain their playerbase with a large ip attached to them. Unironically skullgirls would've done WAY better if it was a more slower paced game.

That wasn't because they were F2P, tho. It's because they were both trash.

Tekken Revolution is legit the worst Tekken ever put out on a console. Not only is it just a shittier version of Tag Tournament 2, it added some faggy RPG mechanics. It didn't even launch with multiplayer. But at least it eventually got one, unlike Soulcalibur: Lost Swords which was just a stripped down version of SCV with no Just Guarding, counter hitting, or the ability to Ring Out someone. Also, you had to grind/pay up for your characters to not look like slags.
