The gameplay I thought was pretty fine, but it feels weightless if you don't understand the way break/balance works, because it's not a flat stat like in dark souls, it's a meter for enemies that deteriorates rapidly based on damage, so if you have something mid-damage but high attack speed (like a bayonet or broadsword) you can slap an enemy twice or three times and get a stagger off. You can change the value of your damage to their balance by using a buff to break, but focus also plays into it.
It's pretty needlessly complex, but it's not really all that weightless, the weight is just more damaging to you than the enemy (though if you learn to dodge instead of blocking like a zweihander brainlet you can be in focus 95% of the time and have nearly infinite balance, and nearly infinite break, plus super increased damage).

Ultimately my biggest issue with the network test was the actual network play. It was horrible. The netcode was an absolute disaster, I can count on one hand, the amount of experiences I had out of 40+ summons where I wasn't rubberbanding and lagging around. There's 0 way I'd ever buy this game if they don't fix that first and foremost.

they're not really wrong. anyone going into this game expecting dark souls but weeb style will be disappointed. it's got all the usual anime tropes within it, distracting from what otherwise is a decently solid action game. it's an anime game first, just with dark souls wannabe combat.

The only people that will like it, are true weebs, because they play these types of games with the same type of tropes within all the time. With that, it's probably one of the better "anime" games to come out this gen, if the bosses can stay interesting and combat not repetitive by the 20 hour mark. co-op is a plus for extra weeb shenanigans.
