I made a little shaman on northdale. Yeah some things are inaccurate, but I doubt it'll detract from the main fucking point that the first 10 levels are absolute ass. Durotar is ugly as shit and feels terrible to go through. Pointlessly short buffs that you have to constantly refresh that are there more or less permanently (rockbiter). Abilities generate extra threat because lol shaman tanks. And then you reach level 10. Your talent point options:

Reduce the mana cost of your chain lighting, shock, and whatever spells by 2%

Increase max mana pool by 1%

If you go horde paladins are a bitch to fight as a warrior but windfury totem can be insane. On the other hand shamans in pvp are usually selfish and won't bother dropping the totem.

If you go alliance elemental shamans can shit on you if left unimpeded for a few seconds but if you get the jump on them they're fucked and 90% of paladins will roll retribution so no blessing of freedom for you.

I was expecting some sort of improvement to my playstyle. I picked the 1% increased mana pool and got 2 extra mana by the way.

I know that rogues and warlocks at least get a talent that restores some mana and energy if they kill a target that gets them XP as their tier 1. Most classes get some minor damage boost or something. But fucking 1% max mana is terrible

No. It's shit. Never minmax for PvE at the cost of PvP. PvE is easy. Period. You can clear it with anything, and the only thing that additional minmaxing in PvE does is decrease your clear times by an insignificant amount. You dealt 2% extra dps and the boss died 0.2 seconds faster. Literally irrelevant. The boss would've died regardless, and you would've gotten the same loot. All you gained was a couple of seconds and a slightly longer epeen.

Being optimal is only relevant in PvP. You're not trying to reach a set level in PvP after which you can complete your objective. Stronger is always better in PvP. There is never a point where you're strong enough because the challenge is infinite. That is why you minmax for PvP at the cost of PvE.

So you rolled a human and are done with your one hour of raiding a week. A mage attacks you, and like always, frostbite procs. While you're stuck in a freeze, slowly dying to the mage's spells, you wonder: "Why the fuck did I roll a human?". Because if you hadn't, the mage would be dead, and you wouldn't staring at a gray screen right now.

There is, if you actually want it to compete with the best dps. Youll have to run BRD 50 times and UBRS 50 times (and only if your guild reserves it for you)

The only big game changers are your level 20/30/40 talents usually. Minor talents that change your playstyle in a meaningful way are really rare for any class.

If the druid is halfway decent, there is essentially nothing the mage can do. You'll never get shatters because the druid can simply shift out of your freezes, the druid can run away in travel form and outrange all your instants while you're dying from dot damage. You can't get any burst done, but you also have 0% chance of outlasting the druid.

Tanking Raids is easy, aslong as you understand the basic mechanics of threat and know which abilities generate more threat per rage.

Tanking 5 mans is more difficult. You need to know what abilities generate the most aoe threat and you essentially need to keep switching between mobs to spam sunder, while simultanously keeping a close eye on anyone pulling aggro.

UBRS is easy, aslong as you have good mages/rogues and players that understand how to CC.

The place to "learn to tank" is BRD.

Something like that or lucky impact procs combined with lucky crits and sure, now you can kill the druid.

Linken's boomerang has a cast time, can't be used in melee range, and rarely stuns.

Its a confidence thing. People expect the tank to pull fast, mark the targets quickly and correctly (skull is kill, cross is 2nd kill...) and do it all while keeping an eye on mana.

It could help to look at some dungeon run videos to see how tanks pull packs etc, but youll get the hang of it even without it. As I said, pracitising in BRD is your best bet.

The only tips I can give:

>start putting 1 sunder armor on each mob in rotation, while throwing out revenge on the main target

In WoW Classic, lvl 60 warriors can tank any 5-man regardless of their spec, so now you know that.

Refusing to tank as a warrior is a huge red flag, just like refusing to heal as a healing class is, some people won't mind it but you'll be SOL most of the time.
Also, since there are tons of DPS to choose from, tank warriors avoided inviting dps warriors to their groups.

I heard Shadowmeld lets you be really creative when you get a cat with prowl. On the other hand I'll probably level an alt Dwarf Hunter cause fuck UD Rogues and fuck Orc Warriors, that's why.

It's not as good at 1.12 patch since they removed the ability of channeling aimed shot from stealth in some patch, maybe 1.9 or 1.10. I remember getting fucked by invisible hunters camping Tarren Mill, oneshotting with an aimed shot you never saw coming. Dropping out of combat aspect can be good for traps but you got feign death already for that, and I'm not sure if the out of combat is instant like in retail.

Have you ever looked at the shooting animation from different races? Most look retarded except for Orc imo. Furthermore, Tauren hitbox is huge and youll be the first target in any pvp environment due to the size. Trolls are fucking ugly and I personally would never play one.

Night elves have ugly shooting animations, but otherwise look better. Shadowmeld is amazing in both pvp and pve (go take a shit in STV, while invis). Dvarves are meh visually, but stoneform is amazing.

Im going Orc hunter if my guild decides to play Horde and Ill go NE hunter if my guild decides to play Alliance.

I'll repost my alliance comparison. Can't be bothered to write about horde races. Troll is shit though.

PvE: nelf. Higher base agi. Gun spec is useless because bis ranged weapon in all phases is a crossbow, except for that small period of time when it's rhok. Stoneform can help in a couple encounters though. That said, you shouldn't mixmax racials for pve.
PvP. toss up. Stoneform's uses are fairly obvious. You can break out of blind, remove crippling and other poisons, bleeds and devouring plague. Poison removal (other than blind) isn't that important since if you're tryharding anyway, you might as well keep several stacks of Elixirs of Poison Resistance with you. They're cheap to craft, cure 4 poisons from you and have a cooldown of 3 seconds. Removing blind isn't as big a deal for hunter as it is for some other classes because of your pet.
Shadowmeld has some uses that may not be immediately obvious. You can obviously use it for ambushing people. The element of surprise can be very strong. You can often escape ganks and hide in general with it as well. It can also be used in pvp for resetting. Trapping someone, then running away and eating/drinking while shadowmelded in duels for example can be very useful. On a dwarf you'd get interrupted the moment the other person gets in range, but as night elf they have to get close enough to see you in stealth. You can use it to make an enemy drop their target, which can have fringe uses. You can find more uses if you're creative.

I was watching some other youtuber (Soupasoka) play Beta and in that entire hout i saw 2 of the same people spam [World] chat for a Tank for WC and RFC. I wouldnt worry about it. Just focus on learning the mechanics and do research until launch. Once you understand what does what, youll get experience and confidence running low level dungeons. If youre running a dungeon and someone complains about the speed, you can always try to go a tiny bit faster in pulling, but then the casters will complain.

In my experience, think of yourself as the leader/captain. Its your responsibility for the run to work. Too fast and youll wipe, too slow and people will complain.

WoW classic is actually a great MMO. I'd give it a shot. It's a slow burn, but that is what makes the game great imo. Earthshaker has nothing but damage and a proc to knock people down which is fucking useless in raids. People are very polarized by 2H fury because its not absolutely cutting edge on dps but its actually better than DW until you get enough hit for your abilities. OEB is good for 2H but the best weapon for it from MC is BRE since it never stops being amazing since less armor = more damage. The axe has no stats and it give you a very small amount of rage when you deal a killing blow and it has a 30 second cool down for that effect.

If you need to eat/drink after every mob then you're doing something wrong. Warrior is the only class that has constant downtime (and hamstring kiting is supposedly worse on classic beta).

I've also not tryed modern WoW because the general consensus is that it's shit.
Classic WoW seems like pretty good place to start since everyone will start from 0 and you don't need to buy any expansions, just the subscription is enough.

You may be aware of the fact that many (most) DPS specs are simply 50% as viable as the best ones, and you may be prepared and happy with playing a support/hybrid role because of this, but the fact is that MANY nu-WoW players have literally had 10+ years of every DPS spec being within a few % of each other in PVE, and have got kicks from being at the top of their shit-tier guild's DPS as a feral druid or survival hunter, for example, by simply being slightly better players.
They don't realize that this is not going to happen in Classic, because they haven't experienced anything but Blizzard whack-a-mole balancing for a decade.

thoughts on shadow priest?
can't really decide on a cloth caster, but the overworld PVP potential seems fun. not too fussed about raiding, but it seems like priests don't get shit on nearly as much as other healers for DPS.
I would probably go mage otherwise, but I like the idea of an alternate playstyle if things get stale.

the numbers are measuring the absolute best parses on the server. the druids also likely have all of the gear being funnelled to them because nobody else needs it, meaning they're doing less dps despite having better gear.

Spell crit and crit are two different stats.

Crit % = melee/ranged
Spell crit % = spells and heals

Blizzard has been shitting on Shamans since release, with the short exception of TBC. That was peak Shaman. After that they just started fucking with the class so much. Currently on retail the class isn't even recognizible. Enhance is the worst thing ever, and Ele only cares about Lava Burst because your lightning bolt has become a builder spell that does fuck all damage and feels terrible to press.

Also, most fights arent long enough for a boomkin to go oom with:

as someone who likes shaman and has played shaman for years it has really pained me. getting back into classic (on a private server) and looking at this god awful mail gear with +spirit +agility on it and worthless set bonuses makes me die inside. need to wear cloth gear in order to not gimp your stats and then you explode instantly in pvp or if you pull aggro.

I have been playing my own personal server(s) for months already. I am tuning the entire game to be single player while still retaining the spirit of the original. I will never pay Blizzard a cent of my money or a minute of my time ever again. Also, these threads are 100% made by Blizzard employees/contractors or people emulating Blizzard employees/contractors. And I guarantee over half of you have never actually played classic - I can tell because I'm playing it right now and I see a lot of posts that are just flat-out wrong.

Hunters are as good as you play them. Both in pvp and pve.

A hunter in full T2 with the crossbow is a force to be reckoned with both in PVP and PVE. A hunter with T3 and the Naxx cross bow can oneshot people with multishot.

I can actually agree with you on that. We had a Ret in our raid back in the day who spent raid nights autoattacking the Boss and buffing/cleansing. We managed to get trough AQ just fine before TBC appeared on the horizon and killed all that incentive to raid. Poopsock realm first guilds just sound tiring and unfun.

If you get parried as dps you are beyond dogshit. But it's going to hit tanks especially combined with no enrage threat generation.

But threat will only be an issue for fury. Rogues will be going hard, vanish, go hard again and the boss is dead. Especially with world buffs raiding is going to be a joke.

I could live with all the other issues with shamans if they just... fixed the gear. it's not until nax do shaman finally get a decent gear set with t3, but that's only for resto. still wearing a dress for 90% of your time spent playing a shaman in vanilla.

I'd be happy with a full shaman set of +spell power +crit gear and a lightning bolt / CL spell book drop from AQ20. the aq20 spellbook being grace of air is a spit in the face to shamans.

Instead of 4% parry of bosses, Blizzard confirmed 14%. That means that tanks will be incapable of holding aggro vs an Ironfoe/windfury fury warrior. A rogue can vanish, a warrior dies.
