Yeah its Compile Heart, its the main studio from my understanding as opposed to Galapagos (Death End Re;Quest, Omega Quintet) or Felistella (Neptunia Re;Birth trilogy, Nep Vs SeGeHa) and they even got Tsunako to do the art again!

That depends on what's annoying about it. Generally Nocturne and Strange Journey are highly recommended. I also like SMT I and II, but they're kind of clunky and unbalanced, so they might annoy you too.

Dragon Quest's storytelling hasn't changed in 30 years and Xenoblade 2's a hearken back to early 00s JRPGs and 90s shonen, and Ys plots always feel very "classic".

I don't like modern Japanese storytelling that much but I like modern Japanese gameplay over old JRPG gameplay.

I felt that the plot potential was wasted considering the books in the archives that you read. I cared for the plot more than the idol theme really. I expect something will happen on Takt since he goes full heroic at the end but it doesn't happen.

I would say SMT IV and its sequel, Soul Hackers, Nocturne, Strange Journey and DDS doulogy are must play. IV and Soul Hackers are usually recommended to new players. Nocturne and DDS can be annoying - Nocturne with invisible walls and pits in dungeons, DDS with insane enconter rate. But it's fucking worth it; DDS actually has a decent story.

I'd also like to think that the Ys and Kiseki design principles are still being kept apart, but then that's probably just wishful thinking.

I would say all of them but I understand that some aren't some people's cup of tea
if you haven't already, try Digital Devil Saga 1&2, very good music and has an interesting hindu theme to it

Kiseki is basically doing what xenosaga failed to do, a 9 game long series with 3 arcs all completely interconnected. The scope is pretty crazy as of the most recent game and I can say I’ve never had a jrpg series stick with me this long

You can play the other games in the series if you like the gameplay, TLR is actually a pretty simplified entry besides the Union system, the other SaGa games tend to have deeper customization, battle systems and micromanagement.

Some people like comfy games with good world building and plot. Sure it's slow, but it's fun to see these worldwide machinations by hidden groups go into play against each other. Not every game needs to be super action packed.

It was fun until the half-way in. After that, you realize there's no meaningful progression left and only pointless grind remains.

Seconding LoR, it was extremely good.

Not much choice, there's Elminage Gothic, but the PC port was made by Ghostlight and they fucked up a few things, the 3DS port might be better depending on whether you like the balance changes in that version, the game's considerably easier than on PC due to those too, it's only available in JP though while the PC port is in english.
There's Stranger of Sword City but Vita has the definitive version of that and there's really no reason to play the PC one, it's also not that good, severely below Elminage or Etrian in most respects except visuals.
user here also has more suggestion but I don't like either games, especially Mary Skelter so I can't really recommend those.

I'm playing it right now and boy, thats how you can broke the game in less than 10 hours in. Getting that Sprite Bracelet is the first thing you need, then a Goodie Box for a Sword of Marvels. The whole Expel arc is over in that.

The director of Xenoblade 1 literally said that he's angry that Xenoblade 1's story gets the praise it gets and he's called it a generic story for written for little boys because it was written after everybody at Monolith was bummed out over the failure of Xenosaga. Blade X and even Blade 2 of all games explore more mature themes than Blade 1 did.
