When did the sonic fan base start to become the autistic mess it is today? Sonic Adventure? Satam? Or was it fucked from the word go
When did the sonic fan base start to become the autistic mess it is today? Sonic Adventure? Satam...
The Sonic's comic was a mistake
I blame Satam and that awkward 50-150 era of the Archie comics.
That ranges from 1993 to 2005. Literally the only sonic games that aren’t apart of that are Sonic 1 and 2. It makes a lot of sense desu. The older fans are the most chill while the newest fans are just kids or ironic jaded kids
Mariofags are just as autistic as Sonicfags, but nobody complains about them.
Sonic Adventure started it for the games. Now everyone thinks Sonic games need deep plots and a million play-styles.
It happened when the series started moving towards brightly colored, smurf-like sameface recolor characters (Shadow, Rouge, Vector, Espio, Cream, Amy, etc). That's the shit that autistic kids (and adults) like. Bright colors and sameface.
I've always blamed Sonic Adventure 2. SatAM had a bit of a hand in it too.
No matter where you live, there is always a mid-30's fat white person with a Mario shirt stretched over their beer belly, light blue jeans, balding and glasses. Usually playing a DS/Switch.
You could argue to was always there then. Vector and Espio are classic characters and Amy was the third introduced after Sonic and Tails. Plus satam has some of that
it always was, you can turn away and go "NUH UH" all you want but let me remind you one thing. Ken Penders was around in the 90s. You can refute nothing.
At least with the sonic fanbase they get cross over with furries and can
>have sex
With equally broken people
I want to say around 2004 because of Sonic Heroes which had the most characters in the series in a single game, and Sonic X was airing at the time. The main reason Sonic exists though is because he's "better than Mario" so that concept is a big factor too.
I guess Satam planted some kind of srz bznz seed, then some influenced kids became able to express themselves in the internet by the tine of Adventure 2. Not saying that all Adventure autists watched Satam first
Oh I wasn't going to use Penders anyway because Chris Chan was autismal about Sonic in the 90s as well, two heavy hitters and we haven't even reached the meat of the internet
As an old fan who dropped the series at 3, I think Adventure and anything after it aside from Mania has been irredeemably awful and the fact that any of it has a fan base at all genuinely worries me to some degree.
Yeah, but Sonic's strain of autism is more apparent and is pretty much meme status for a reason. That said aren't Sonic fangames usually higher quality?
Sadly it was SATaM. I remember being obsessed with that shit and if the internets had existed properly back then I'd be on fanfiction.net writing Bunnie Rabbot fics after the series got canned.
Then I found out later the comic had been running for 20 fucking years
A mixture of SA2, SatAM and the comics. Edgy nonsense that influenced all the OC/autism garbage that has plagued the franchise ever since.
Shadow the Edgehog
After Sonic 2, but it became more aparent with Sonic Adventure.
It kinda blows me away that the comic was allowed to run as long as it did. Especially when it was at its worst, you would've thought someone higher up would have stepped in and put out that dumpster fire.
Sega layed basic ground rules and did nothing until it became a legal issue. They really should’ve went in harder Penders hated all the Adventure stuff
Well Penders helped the Archie comic die thanks to his autism powers and thinking he owned Knuckles for some reason. The IDW one at least is kinda non-threatening, though I wish it wasn't a continuation of Sonic Forces.
Are any of the sonic shows worth watching as a classic-onlyfag? I loved Adventures of StH as a kid but every time I try watching it again it feels weird for some reason.
Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog is the best Sonic cartoon imo. More so because it's just Looney Toons but with Sonic characters.
Watch the mania adventures mini serious and Sonic Boom because it’s a good show sonic or no. Satam is good if your in the right mood avoid Underground
SatAM was the root of all Sonic-related autism.
Notice how only the western audience was exposed to that fanfiction-tier shit. You don't see Japan with such an autistic Sonic fanbase.
SatAM is the best cartoon, in my opinion.
Also, check out the Sonic OVA movie, it was made by Toei and should remind you of Sonic CD's opening.
Sega isn't trigger happy with fan projects, which lets people channle thier autism in less destructive ways
>Japan Fanbase
user.....
The Genisis flopped badly in Japan and only Saturn sold well, and in Saturn NiGHTS outsold the terrible Sonic 3D Blast , they were never exposed to Sonic Games due to SEGA not focusing on Japan
Japan just sees Sonic as SEGA's cute mascot , it's like how Americans just see Mickey Mouse as Disney's cute mascot while Europeans see him as an adventurer detective
Before/After The Sequel were legit really cool. Such amazing soundtracks too.
I never said their fanbase was big, user. There's a few Sonic fans over there. Also, you've never played Epic Mickey before?
all of them except Sonic Underground and Sonic X, hell Sonic Boom is fantastic
Don't forget Freedom Planet.
Epic Mickey is not Euro Mickey
Only the second season of Boom is any good.
>it's like how Americans just see Mickey Mouse as Disney's cute mascot while Europeans see him as an adventurer detective
Well yeah because Europe is fucking weird.
Mario's autism brings us Pannenkoek, Sonic's autism brings us Chris-chan.
Sonic Movie is my favorite, that and the Sonic CD cutscenes are done in my favorite style for that kinda thing
Which Sonic movie there are 3 of them well 2 are really just long tv show episodes but still
/thread
Around early 2000, I think the internet is largely to blame, the internet allows these people to find eachother and maintain and feed their obsessions which eventually becomes weirder while there's no one sane to pull them back into reality, only their hugbox of weirdos who think the same way
SatAM--
>more than a few people already said it
Huh. Good to know there's others that are woke on this issue. But yeah, SatAM set the precedent that Sonic could be "dark and serious." Without that and the comic that it spawned, (well, after its brief stint as a comedy comic that is) I'd wager that games like SA2 would have been received very, very differently at the time it came out, and I highly doubt it would've spawned as many fans of "Shonen Sonic" (god I hate that term) as there are today. SA2 would've been remembered as that weird one off thing similar to how Sonic '06 is remembered with regards to its story. Speaking of '06, its story probably wouldn't have been the way that it was without SA2 too. It seems that game has a lot to answer for in terms of its impact on the series as a whole, because I don't think it was an overall good one. Serious would've been vastly different without SA2, and I think, frankly, better off.
>But yeah, SatAM set the precedent that Sonic could be "dark and serious."
I don't think that's entirely true. Sonic's always had some edge because the games at it's core have been about a blue dude going on adventures. Even AoStH got that right in it's only silly way and if you deny that you just get Sonic Boom where everyone sits around Seinfeld style throwing one liners at eachother.
But furry drama yeah that's all SaTAM
It's pretty crazy to think how different the franchise would probably be if SA2 never existed.
