Smash doesn't really have its own fanbase though, it's a crossover, so its "fanbase" is a mish-mash of people from many different fanbases. And since those fanbases can be of drastically different series, it's no surprise that they're incompatible with each other.
Sonic has some good parts like the planet being Earth 30 million years into the future and Gerald modeling Shadow and the Biolizard's room after the mural in S3K and Angel Island.
Every Zelda up to MM had good lore.
