Well seeing as every tournament goes to to shit and the only non-relic holding characters to win were the Ikari Warriors, they might be better off. You aren't alone, I feel you.
I have huge issues with fighting games because I'm physically unable to handle controllers well. I can only play fighting games decently with a keyboard (and it still takes a lot) but still I grew up with KoF, and enjoy it no matter how much I struggle playing it.
I love its characters, music, plots, stories, and just about everything, really. It'll always be special.

Although I really don't like where the franchise has gone with stuff like tag team. That's the only exception.
