Why is this game so hard compared to Enemy Unknown? I'm only playing vanilla x-com 2, no chosen dlc or anything like that and I'm losing the majority of the missions. The new sectoids usually ending up mind controlling one of my people or causing them to panic and everything just snowballs into a complete trainwreck from there. Playing on normal difficulty btw.

Just kill the bad guys, then they can't attack you. This is easy.

The developers got mad at people learning how to cheese the last game, so they made all the old cheese strats impossible.
This made the game frustrating to play as a casual.

Get snipers. Kill the sectoids with snipers.

Once you're past like... June or so, the Sectoids become a LOT less and you'll fucking wish they were back when Aliens that poison/choke and other bullshit happen.

Grenade spam is stronger than congalining desu

Once you get psychics and can mind control enemies, it becomes really easy.

Flashbangs disable mind control
Sectoids take double damage from melee attacks
An Alien alive at 1HP is just as bad as one at full HP. Killing things is your best crowd control. Use guaranteed damage like nades more early game.

You will obtain the gud.

Yeah I did get to the part with the snake things that can grab someone far away with their tongue and pull you to them like fucking Scorpion, and slowly strangle them to death unless you shoot it, while it poisons the rest of your squad.

Keep your team spread out but not so far that if one activates a pod they are completely solo.
Flanking makes things easy.
Destroy the aliums cover with nades and flanking is really easy. (always have a grenadier early for this)
If someone gets mind controlled focus all resources on the alien it ends if they die, same goes if they summon a zombie.

Early game when acc fucking sucks, bring at least 1 flashbang guy to deal with psychic bs
Pistols are useful
Grenades are op
Swords are a meme in vanilla, but alright in WotC
Avoid contact after third move in a turn
Seriously, train grenadiers

Should I play Enemy Unknown? Apparently it was Strategy GOTY for 2012. Must have been really good, but I don't see discussion.

No, garbage in comparison to XCOM 2 or original titles.

It's all about how you instigate combat, use a lot of grenades early on, stealth is very useful

If you haven't played any of the new xcom games then I'd start there. Xcom is my favorite games but its hard to go back to the enemy unknown after xcom 2 WOTC.

It's not harder, it's just got more RNG bullshit in it than the previous game. Which is why it sucks compared to it.

Endgame War of the Chosen has almost no RNG because of the crazy abilities your soldiers get

Never played the expansion. How much does it unfuck the base game? I already sank 150 hours into that and I'm not about to continue if it's the same turd with some ketchup and mustard sprayed all over it.

I love WOTC and can't imagine going back to the base game, but I also don't remember having much issue with it outside of some of the mission timers which the expansion does fix.

It's good but I hope you mean the expansion and not just the base game

It doubles the content, soldiers can eventually get all the abilities on their skill tree using AP. You can pair up your soldiers as partners and they get cohesion points toward bonuses and abilities.

There's even a special sniper unit that can take a few shots without leaving stealth.

What makes it garbage?

Yeah as long as you get enemy within too.

The game snowballs hard as fuck and they allow you to initiate first how the fuck is it harder than the late game
Oh no the developers disagreed with a cheesy playstyle and removed it
boohoo

after you get a mimic beacon the game is piss easy

Any tips for someone's first time playing xcom 2? I've never played the previous games.

>XCOM 2
>harder than Enemy Unknown

Attached: 1536803697713.jpg (277x406, 70K)

PRO-TIP:
play enemy unknown first

I hope you weren't save scumming Yea Forums.

Attached: 1556062021171.jpg (1085x921, 101K)

Is this from Enemy Unknown or 2? I save scummed once in 2 and this didn't happen.

Anybody hoping XCOM2 announces an expansion pack at E3?

Didn't happen to me, but I only did it once or twice. I'm not well enough to play games for very long and losing shit after a lot of work means it is time wasted for me.

What does Enemy Within bring that's not in the base game?

It specifically happens if you shoot and miss and reload, I think. Which I think is pointless as if you shoot again you just miss... or is that Mutant Zero.

The special alien's sword is amazing with a maxed level user. Especially vs units that melee, because they get a free attack if an opponent enters the square next to them. Really helps lower their health. Muton variants are obviously difficult but if they've been weakened already, can save you. Her sword is high damage.

A lot of things, really. It rebalances the skills, adds new customization for your soldiers with gene modding, mech units, new gear, etc. The big things are that it adds a new resource to the game to discourage overwatch crawling as well as a new enemy faction and a bunch of events and missions tied to them.
The base game feels really basic and lacking, and the expansion fills that gap.

So is this the most difficult TBS game?

>Get snipers. Kill the sectoids with snipers.
Don't listen to this moron. Sectoids take extra damage from melee attacks. A couple of Rangers will forever end your Sectoid problems.

The best way to win is to make sure the enemies don't get to shoot or if they do it's at a penalty.

At the start load up on flashbangs. If for whatever reason the aliens aren't dead on the turn they're engaged chuck a flashbang.

Imagine if all the alien (not ADVENT soldier) classes had their own Alpha-class boss variant that could show up and make your life hell but also give you powerful weapons and armors and equipment.

Sectoid Arbiter
Muton Centurion
Faceless Horror
Sectopod Prime
Andromedon Warrior
etc

Attached: blocks your path.jpg (1033x1255, 509K)

>Don't listen to this moron.
No, do listen to me. Snipers will utterly dominate the game like the first one. The only problem with snipers is getting them into sight-lines/lanes and the stupid ass Vipers that can grab them/choke them to death if you don't have any other units to back up the snipers.

Putting a sniper with Squadsight (IIRC it's in X-com 2 as well) and Damn Good Ground on high-ground with your other units triggering the aliens to move for Squadsight Overwatch to trigger will utterly DOMINATE the aliens.

X-com 2 is only "hard" due to the new bullshit aliens and time-limit of the main-mission. If there was no rush (like the first one, bar the X-com council placating) you wouldn't be sweating the game so much because fundamentally the same tactics that X-com 1 had works here just as well.

Wait, is this real? I thought this quote was from Bum Fuckley.

That would be cool, but probably also a lot of work to do all that content.

twitter.com/xcom/status/1116793107713069056?lang=en

Personally I've never been a fan of Snipers until I'm able to make the Spider/Wraith Suits, because moving them even one step means they can't use their rifles and by the time they can get into a favorable position the battle is usually over or the enemies are behind cover and can attack soon. Once I have those they become so powerful it's unreal.

Get flashbangs, retard.

>there was going to be a Grenadier-class Chosen and a resistance faction made up of androids/cyborgs led by Julian
>cut because of time
God damn it. Imagine if we could have gotten the MECs back after a fashion and a Chosen-style grenade launcher.

Just use their pistol overwatch. It's not as good as the sniper rifle, but taking pot-shots with the rest of your team taking pot-shots via overwatch (or mopping up manually) will keep them dominating.

I basically beat the game with the same tactics as X-com one: Go for long sight-lines on the snipers, move up the infantry/non-snipers slowly to trigger enemies/find them. Once found, cover->overwatch.

The "rescue the civilians before time runs out" missions are the only place where doing a slow overwatch-leap-frog with snipers will be a bit annoying.

Honestly, I never even used the new weapons/shit like the Flashbangs.

The Alpha Aliens were the only thing to truly give me the shits because of how early they trigger in the game and before I researched the armors.

What's better to have on a Sharpshooter, AP rounds or Dragon/Venom rounds?

AP for snipers, Dragon/Venom for gunslingers

Danke.

t. mouth breather who only knew how to play by inching forward slowly in overwatch. now i see other game copy xcom and it makes me sad. thanks for killing turn based strategy games.

snipers are so bad good players don't use them at all. a squadie sniper is worse than a rookie.

Anyone else use class mods that add new ones? Right now I'm using Spec Ops, Bio Operative, Officer, Infiltrator, Warden, and Pharmacist. Also using Fuze and Heavy Gunner because fuck both of those types being on one class.

Is it best to have a balance of class numbers, or can you get away with having more of a class you prefer?

You want to always keep enough specialists around for long range objectives but other than that do whatever classes you want.

And for Hacking, since they're the best at it.

LOL

boy if only the A Better Advent mod in the steam workshop had that same exact feature

It's just irritating, not difficult.

I'm talking official ones, not fan-made recolors.

lol

XCOM 2 isn't about strategy. It's about downloading 300 mods and creating an unstoppable waifu you fap to while she kills things.

>Why is this game so hard
>Templar kills half the map in one turn

I can't stand losing soldiers.

Are you playing long war? if not get good

Always use 100% cover. Flashbangs out of the ass.

The only thing its absolute bullshit in xcom2 is the chrysalids hiding under ground, you can see them and when they get out they get a movement turn in your own fucking turn and are in range of melee and will apply that strong af poison
There is literally no counterplay

>Long War 2
>10 minute loading times with an SSD and i9
>20 FPS in bigger fights with a GTX 1080
>random crashing

No thanks. I'll stick to WOTC with a few dozen difficulty mods.

Templar + Reaper + abilities that grant him energy faster = an absolute murder machine

Scanning Protocol
Battle Scanner
Ranger or Templar with Bladestorm
Hellweave Vest

Imagine still being butthurt about not being able to spam overwatch all the time

1- Locked behind the shittiest and most useless class, has 1 use, has limited range so if you don't know where they are its useless
2- Better solution but takes a granade slot and has the same problem as scanning protocol, its useless without save scumming
3- You have to invest in the best sword if you hope to kill it in one go,misses a lot and you are obligated to push only with rangers
4-Just mitigates the damage

XCOM EU/EW's bad ending is better than actual endings of both games

>Civ 5 & 6
>Xcom 1 & 2

I feel like Firaxis is the only dev currently active that knows how to properly reboot franchises. Always maintaining what made the originals good while also adding more complexity and modernizing the more archaic parts.

It's canon.

Is there a mod that disables the timers on mission?s Shit is annoying and I like taking my time on things. One of the things I hated most about Xcom EW

Nigger, do you know what skills the Specialist has beyond hacking and healing? Ever Vigilant and Guardian can kill entire pods of enemies in one action.

Yes. If you're up to not being a complete faggot, there's even mods that delay countdown until revealed.

Look on the Steam Workshop.

Templar bladestorm never misses. Also just scout with a spark or heal the poison if you get jumped. It's really not that big of a deal.

>tfw you forget to bring a specialist and the first pod has a sectopod prime

Attached: 1448290858351.jpg (472x480, 43K)

The countdown is the stupidest shit. Barely even makes any sense in the story or context. If aliens do have 'reinforcements', then let them come so my team can wipe them out

XCOM: EW - The Long War

Still the greatest XCOM experience ever made

Attached: Operation Ashes and Temples.jpg (599x337, 17K)

>People STILL complain about timers
>Despite the abundance of mods and the fact that WOTC added an option for pussies to double turn timers
Scrubs never learn.

Nothing more satisfying than sending my SPARK with Hunter Protocol, Superior Expanded Magazine, Superior Scope, and Superior Repeater out into the fog, revealing some pods, and laying waste to the revealed enemies. Especially when he's got the Megatron voice pack.

Who needs a specialist for that when you have a gunner with chain shot and bluescreen rounds?

So you can take control of the sectopod prime and annihilate the enemies with it.

Is there any point to using the Incendiary, Gas, and Acid Grenades/Bombs?

this

Ending is not edgy enough desu.

Attached: hqdefault.jpg (480x360, 15K)

>Get squad wiped in the final room of the last mission in enemy unknown because the first shot missed
You bet your ass I reloaded that save

Incendiary can cause panic and stops some units from meleeing, reloading, or overwatching. Gas lowers aim and mobility of non-robots, which is great if you have no way of taking them all out in one turn. Acid obliterates armor and does the highest damage over time which only Andromedons are immune to.

They all provide varying levels of area denial, so they're great for getting some breathing room.

Guess I'll give them a try in my next playthrough, then. I always use the rounds to deliver fire and poison to enemies.

>Commander, it is of vital importance that you upload more posters to the thread.

Attached: Poster_019.png (800x1200, 1.27M)

>full mod never ever
And we were so close too.

>ywn capture an Archon and take it back to the Avenger to make it the crew's sex toy

Attached: Archon.jpg (1920x1080, 661K)

No one feels the pain more than I do. If only he had waited until he finished it to go completely insane.

Get to week 3 with no soldiers dying, promote to grenadiers when possible.
You should be able to field at least one grenadier per squad each mission.
The game is now broken in half until you can field psi-ops which again, break the game in half when you train them a bit.

tactical should be something like: blow the fuck out of cover on aliens, throw/shoot flash grenades at sectoids to stun them.
Flash grenades are easily the most OP thing early on as it stops so many of the abilities.

If you think about it, XCOM 2 has a great midgame bosses, but a weak as fuck endgame boss. Its a game where the difficuty, and reward, peaks at the middle, so the ending exists mainly for you to say "I'm tired with this run, lets end it so that I can begin again"

More like big red rocket makes you his sex toy.

Attached: 1504429984251.jpg (1920x1080, 304K)

Breeding mod when?

I want my perfect XCOM bara BULLS to fuck my operator bitches and create perfect XCOM children

Already exists. Check Lovers Lab.

That already exists user.

I want to lick his abs and nuzzle his pecs.

Story?

Nice. Have they modded actual sex scenes yet? I want my soldiers to FUCK on-screen

Not op but I also looked for a while, and could only find cosmetic things.

>Still no Chosen + Factions + Long War
Why live?

Short version is someone took parts of his mod and started trying to sell it, he was pretty distraught, attacks went back and forth, and he decided it was all not worth the risk and the heat.

He recently started posting a few things again from what is clearly an essentially complete version, although I don't think it'll ever get released. It's his right, but it almost feels a bit like taunting now.

Attached: Poster_018.png (800x1200, 1.01M)

Long War of the Chosen actually is in development and far enough along that a barebones alpha has been released, but it's going slow as fuck.

I thought the long war devs basically abandoned xcom to work on their own game

>someone took parts of his mod and started trying to sell it
MOTHERFUCK-

God, its people like these that have to fuck things up for eveybody

They did. Various other people are working on it now.

WotC already feels like Long War lite and done by Firaxis themselves, so we should cut them some slack.

Speaking of which - XCOM 3 when?

>XCOM 3

I'd rather they just reboot the series again than make a sequel. What, are we going to lose again and have to fight in a post-Avatar scenario where the aliens hold even more power over humanity? The only further we could get from open warfare than XCOM 2's guerilla warfare would be some Splinter Cell shit. Don't get me wrong, a turn-based stealth strategy game done well would be great, but that's not XCOM.

Based.

I last played XCOM 2 long time ago, before WoTC but IIRC the ending hints at terror from the deep, that under water game. Unless that is adressed at wotc

But underwater.

>the ending hints at terror from the deep
Still does, WotC just added a bit more to it.

WOTC just adds a new ending cutscene with another Terror From the Deep hint.

Really not a fan of the underwater idea though, not as the majority of a game.

I actually thought of complaining here a few weeks ago since I pirated the base version myself.

The problem I was having was the constant upward swing of difficulty regardless of if your production was on par. Like, have you ever had to deal with an Andromedon without level 2 shotguns? Extremely efficient playthroughs can get Tier 3 shotguns by then but I keep playing on ironman and restarting whenever I feel like I've snowballed in the wrong direction.

Took a few days to get a rhythm now I feel legitimately good at the game. WAR suit shredder cannon pretty much 1shots anything not called a Sectopod in a bajillion degree cone a bajillion miles in front of you. Seriously, flame thrower and plasma launcher are complete shit compared to the shredder cannon.

>Swords are a meme
Full sword spec is better than full stealth spec, only because stealth spec is fucking garbage. That said, bladestorm basically allows you to get 3 attacks in one turn by using double shot and bladestorm to retaliate against a close opponent, and depending on your ammunition (Always give shotgunners Bluescreen rounds SPECIFICALLY for double shot) can solo a sectopod in 1 turn.

Main thing I dislike in stealth is how once you get discovered you can't go back to stealth again. Is there a mod to change that, at least for rangers?

>Main thing I dislike in stealth is how once you get discovered you can't go back to stealth again
>you can't go back to stealth again
Away with you, retard.

Can you faggots reccomend me some games similar to this?
Played Mutant Year Zero recently and it was ok, but I'm looking for something with a deeper strategic layer to it.
I would play Xenonauts if it wasn't so fucking ugly, or rather, so bland looking, what were they thinking?

Attached: lz1yY3W.jpg (1200x1800, 399K)

You... can. There's not 1, but 2 ways to regain stealth specifically for Rangers. But they're still pathetically mediocre.

Just get a mod that disables all the anti-fun timers on each mission OP. Then the game becomes enjoyable.

Casual

LOOK AT THIS DOOD

Why is this thing so hard to kill?

Attached: XCOM-2-Alien-Hunters-image-982713.jpg (1280x720, 131K)

I thought it was the easiest, just poison/acid her and watch the hp drop

those are basically just normal guys that take a free action on damage and have more stats

I hope benis boint is good, the features look great aside from it being epinized

Not sure if it's a LW2 thing but played through vanilla 2 and had no issue at all, aside from the long loading times

Pre ordered when I was playing xcom2, then epic drama, then I needed the money for food so refunded. Might get it if it's good. I should play enemy within, wotc or original x-com

Heard mario vs rabbids and dk dlc are fun. Played an hour and then went back to mhgu. Even if it's somewhat basic, the movement options are awesome

Fuck you Ayys I will still let Ainsley bring back your sectoid bodies to use as his fleshlight

VIGILO CONFIDO

Attached: YesItsActuallyHisVoice.png (1587x899, 1.69M)

The thing I hate the most about those 2 games is their capeshit style. Everything looks so stupid and plastic. EU/EW had weird cartoon looking characters. It got better in Xcom 2 and people looks like human beings now but everything still feels like out of marvel movie, especially the Chosen.

Also strategy layer is literally nonexistent. There is no strategy on campaign map, you just wait until next mission pops up. I liked Long War 2 in that regard even though I played it only for a while. You actually managed something there and had to make choices. Too bad that it isn't compatible with WotC. Not only most of mods are now made for WotC, it also had that improved performance which made it a much more enjoyable on my toaster. You have to choose either LW2 or WotC, which sucks.

Attached: 1559573119934.jpg (600x311, 15K)

hopefully XCOM 3 lifts most of the good features
freeaim and limbs/mutations are just too sexy

The vanilla game's engine is shit, but the developers tried limiting how much stuff could go on at any given time to reduce strain on it. Long War 2 didn't give a fuck and decided to let you take 8 soldiers on a mission against 50 aliens (+ reinforcements) and with 20 resistance personnel you can gain control over.

Great in concept, but not meant to be for anyone playing on graphics above medium.

Reminds me of front mission 3. Damage was random but I think certain weapons had bias towards specific parts. Destroying arms would disable weapons/shields, legs would reduce movement and head would disable skills. Body was just hp and killed the unit

Damn straight.

Attached: 20170914185811_1.jpg (1920x1080, 266K)

>"I'm tired with this run, lets end it so that I can begin again"
This for me both with vanila and the dlc's

As much as I hope for another DLC to this game, i very much doubt it.
If anything they proably are going full steam ahead with Xcom 3
Which is fine by me, just hope it get's fleshed out like Xcom2 with the dlc's

Never been able to find it.
Bug everytime I start the game, never had a "starting" point with the dlc, just randomly they started talking about said dlc when the first fight with one of the other two mutants happens.

Shame

Is this in WotC? If you choose the integrate DLC option when you start a WotC campaign the mission doesn't exist and instead they start guarding blacksites and won't be encountered until you first fight them there.

Attached: 1553202895513.png (620x561, 290K)

It's actually very hard for me to pick and play "it's like xcom!" turn based strategy games nowadays because I'm too spoiled.
If it's hard it's because you are trying to force the game to play the way you imagine the engagements must happen rather than the way the game actually works.
At any rate, use your granades early, carry a flashbang to diz the sectoid after if mind controls somebody (this ends the mind control), get plate armor quick, put mindshields on your rangers, think tactically, git gud and losing is fun.

Attached: file.png (347x163, 91K)

why did they make the aliens so sexy

Attached: nyjhnoq9wpfcgz5fwqvj.jpg (1300x728, 125K)

The game isn't based around knowing or trying to execute any semblance of 'realistic' tactics. Just read up on the latest optimal strategy the game wants you to use and do that every mission. That the best protip for strategy in these games is literally "alpha strike the enemy so they don't kill you", ie "kill all enemies in one turn so there's no return fire" should tell you how fucked these games are tactically

>Be me
>20 year old sectoid human hybrid that gets laughed at by pure sectoids for having "filthy human dna"
>Me and my hybrid bros are hanging out minding our own business doing our earth jobs.
>These humans come running at us from nowhere and shoot one of my friends.
>I scream that we're being attacked and run to cover.
>The murderers laugh at my fallen friend and start throwing grenades around,
>I mind control one to pacify him, but his friends are so out of their mind and blood thirsty that they gun him down.
>I spot one out in the open so I wing him.
>As I look around I see that all my friends are dead, blown apart or riddled with bullets.
>I want to cry, but my tear ducts have been modified so that I'm unable to do so.
>One of them runs up to me and points the gun at my head.
>This is it.
>He moves his gun at some random angle and misses me by miles.
>Are they on some kind of drugs?
>I run to a safer spot and try to mind control him, to pacify him.
>He freaks out and runs behind a burning car that blows up killing him.
>Then I see it.
>GRENADE!
>And that's the last thing I remeber before waking up in the healing pod. My friends are all gone to some mad men with no trigger discipline that toss around explosives.
>Only people that actually liked me gone.
>I wish I could leave this planet, but what's the point, humans hate me for being alien, sectoids hate what I was born as.
>I'm alone.

Maybe phoenix point, after it leaves the epic store.

Attached: phoenix point.jpg (1600x940, 144K)

I've played so much with modded classes I don't even remember the strategies for the base game. Why would you play vanilla anyway?

OpenXcom

Fuck Rulers, they were such a fucking menace Firaxis nerfed them in WoTC, at which point they just turn into glorified meatbags. My advice is to uninstall Alien Hunters DLC if you play vanilla XCOM 2, because that shit goes way beyond difficulty - it's just downright unfair.

tell me about it
>suddenly a giga nigger appears
>takes 1 move for every move you do
>first thing it does is run up and knock down half your team
>then the next move will stun another guy
>attempting to revive the knocked out guys will give it more moves and more stuns
>also has the hp to survive 2-3 turns of your entire team shooting at it and solid damage

Fuck aliens. XCOM 3 when?

What's up with all these xcom 2 threads lately?
I hope xcom 3 is announced at E3 so /xcg/ can come back already.

Also the game gets easier once you upgrade your weapons and armor. By end game, I thought it was a bit too easy.

Fuck yeah I did.
Anytime I lost a favorite soldier I went back and did the mission again....until everyone survived.

Favourite soundtrack in the Tactical Legacy Pack? You did play it right?

Because in the first xcom you could make baby step moves and set all the team on overwatch, letting the whole alien squad into a volley of bullets. You could play the game very cautiously and slowly with no real disadvantages.

Xcom 2 has timers or other things that forces you to take risks (do i reach the objective faster with the risk of activating a pod, or do i go slower but risking the time out?)

Also enemies do more things thus screwing your engagement priorities while before were pretty linear (mind control, big damage, melee unit)
