They're the shittiest airline, they'll try to nickel and dime you in any way they can. In my experience, they're only around $50 cheaper than an airline like Alaska or Jet Blue, but Spirit charges for overhead space and doesn't provide free drinks (sodas/coffee/etc, obviously).

Technically no, you don't. I went through a college to get my commercial twin engine license so I do have a two year degree in Flight Science but it's not necessary. All they care about are how many flight hours you have under your belt, that's it. All the airlines are absolutely desperate for pilots. When I started at Piedmont we were offering any employee who successfully referred a pilot a $5k bonus.

Many companies will also subsidise your flight training if you show promise and sign an employment contract. Between that and using grants through the college it really wasn't all that bad. Definitely enough to keep the poorfags out, but not out of the question for a middle class guy who is actually willing to work for it.
