Super Paper Mario was honestly a good game, though probably not the best follow up to TTYD. I'd take more games in it's style.

Not really. It was better than the first game, and better than TTYD in a lot of ways. All paper mario games should have followed that formula, since M&L and super mario RPG are both better Mario RPGs than paper mario was.

TTYD would've been improved if they added a small ice-themed palace in place of the hunt for General White. They can even contextualize it as where they Chapter 7 star should've been before the X-Nauts found it and took it to the moon.
The backtrack for General White is probably the only pockmark on an otherwise masterpiece
