If the franchise ever gets exposure now instead of any other time, it definitely won't be from Square Enix's efforts, but from Sakurai and Nintendo's.

Maybe I'm having a hard time excusing Square Enix's laziness over promoting a character for exposition even though there are very high chances of its potential not being met unless Sakurai absolutely knows what he's doing.

Bulma's alright, and he makes great machines, but I think his character designs are overall trash. I never got into DB/DBZ even as a kid because of it, and it's the same for DQ. While that might be true, it's hard for me, personally, to look past the characters I have to use for the whole game. Couldn't get into CT for the same reason.

It's less the muscles, and much more about the faces. I hate the style of his eyes and faces in general. Though I'll give you the monsters - like machines, he can draw monsters really well.

He doesn't even make sense as a DQ rep. He's the main character of 1 of like 10 Dragon Quest games. Something like Slime which is much more recognizable and much more emblematic of the series would make a lot more sense if we're getting anything from Dragon Quest.

That's why you have a base hero character with eight different skins. Like Bowser Jr has. Then you can have plenty of representation. The only issue comes up that the heroes in DQVII and IX wouldn't fit the model. But since you have only eight slots, you can just skip those two.

As the biggest DQ fag on this board, I can tell you that I don't really care about getting a DQ rep in Smash Bros. The only reason to do it would be the huge marketing and awareness it would bring. Much like Fire Emblem and Mother got. But this is also why I think SquareEnix won't allow it. Because they go out of their way to make sure DQ doesn't get advertising outside Japan. Because then they'd be expected to support the series beyond Smash Bros.

Also, if anyone got in, the smart thing to do would be the have the hero from Dragon Quest XI. Because the Switch version of DQXI is coming out in about 6 months and it would be a huge marketing oppertunity. But again, SquareEnix seems to go out of their way to do the opposite of what they should.

I think Square won’t get another rep, but if they had a change of heart after cloud then I think Slime would be a better DQ character. More well known and iconic. Also wouldn’t be another anime sword fighter.

I chose Zoom because not every hero has Swoosh. The idea is moves which can be used over multiple heroes (each alt costume is a different hero). Every hero has Zoom and the other skills I named. Though sometimes they have different names because of the inconsistency of translation.

Also, I don't think the hero in DQIII has Woosh either. At least, not from the skill list I just looked up. He has blaze, fireball, zap and healing spells.

Dragon Ball is the most popular anime in the west specifically because it's watched by the "normalfags." One of the biggest mistakes they made when advertising Dragon Quest over the last 20 years is they downplayed the Toriyama art. They would have gotten way more fans if they played up the connections to Chrono Trigger and Dragon Ball. BotW started off as a tech demo showing they could use the Zelda 1 engine to do new things. Then it expanded to putting those ideas into a 3D engine. It's inspiration was going back to the roots of Zelda, not copying Elder Scrolls.

Now, it is true that BotW has some elements you can find in Elder Scrolls. But it also has elements found in pretty much every open world game ever made. Elder Scrolls had about as much influence on BotW as Red Dead Redemption, Dragon Quest VIII or previous Zelda games had. The biggest influences of BotW are clearly Miyazaki films and Wind Waker. It's basically all the ideas Aonouma wanted to do in Wind Waker, but couldn't because of time and technology limitations.

Doom is way more influential. It started an entire decade of PC companies focusing on First Person clones. Elder Scrolls was following RPGs that had come before.

That movie isn't going to do well. It'll do Advent Children levels, but won't come anywhere close to a Pixar/Disney release. Zelda, Mother characters, MewTwo, Rosalina, the magic Mii and you can argue Ganon and Peach/Daisy. Now, a lot of these characters use melee attacks as well as magic. But the point is that ever since the Melee days with the Polygon fighters, Sakurai has used Zelda as the base model for the female characters and magic users.

You're not getting the point. Sakurai uses base models for all the characters. Yes, characters will have unique models and animations. But they tend to have similar starting points. For example, in the past Sakurai has said he didn't want to put Krystal in the game because she would require more work than just making another swordsman or fox clone. As she would need a completely new model to use a staff. Notice how the few staff wielders we have in the game mostly stick to Zelda's model still. And their staff is used like a melee attack.

And by your own examples, most characters have unique moves. Yes, they sometimes throw a magic skill on a mostly melee character. But that magic skill is a skill other magic characters like Zelda has. Where do you think they got the idea?

In part. But the NPCs had been dry in Zelda games for 15 years. Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword are even worse than BotW is. BotW actually had interesting NPCs in my opinion. And more of them than any Zelda game before.

The sidequests in Breath of the Wild are real bad, man. It took from WRPGs in the worst ways. Those qualify as padding and filler.
Every other Zelda game had better sidequests than Breath of the Wild.

I feel like the point isn't that "you can upgrade it" because yes you obviously can, as much as it was a tacked on mechanic twice in a row to make things have difficulty padding for the sake of it.

You claiming its bad is an opinion. I can claim the same thing about Twilight Princess and Wind Waker, because I legitimately dislike the side quests in those games. But there's no way to prove it right or wrong. It's just an opinion.

And you're also claiming they come from WRPGs, when the vast majority of them can clearly be seen in earlier Zelda games or JRPGs. It turns out that collecting items, defeating enemies, unlocking shrines, lighting lamps and the like are in plenty of games. You could just as easily say it was inspired by Red Dead Redemption and not WRPGs. But again, all these types of side quests are in JRPGs and other action games.

The stamina is in BotW mostly so people don't just have freedom to climb every mountain or spam spin attacks without any consequences. If you didn't have stamina, someone could just run off the Great Plataeu and do everything in the game right from the start, without any sense of progression or need to improve. You may not like it, but that's the reason it's there.

Most of the FE characters need a small rework in general. At least they did something slightly different with Chrom and gave him a variation of Ike's Aether instead of just copy pasting Marth again. If a character is coming from one whole genre to another, there are tons of ways that could actually go to the point where it truly is best to keep an open mind and see what they come up with.

People can and did shit on Phoenix Wright on UMvC3, but they did an amazing job with the creativity it took to adapt him.

You know who else could have had a cool moveset despite being a sword user? Chrom, Lucina, Roy and Ike. Roy literally has a sword that shoots fire. Ike, Lucina and Chrom all have access to alternate weaponry and clash changing, yet Sakurai never did anything with that.
