Why is PC so far behind with the implementation of HDR?

because with a pc you have an actual method of input that's not fucking awful so if you drag your mouse and there's a fuckton of input lag you get frustrated and disgusted, whereas the console retards are too stupid to notice or care about 200ms of input lag.

Most popular PC monitor techs aren’t that good with HDR (IPS has dreadful blacks and TN is just nope for everything but low lag) and in general, people are slower to replace their monitors than TVs and don’t want to spend as much money on them as they do on TVs. Also, most people willing to spend lots of money on a monitor will probably prioritize refresh rate etc. over visual quality (barring professionals doing color-accurate stuff, but that’s entirely different market), and there’s no way to combine both without it getting absurdly expensive.

I remember way back in the mid 2000's when HDR was getting into Source games. Old stuff.

My OLED has 15 ms of input lag at 4k HDR. I can live with that in order to have such gorgeous picture quality.

This. If you want for better HDR support on PCs, you’re gonna need more affordable 144hz HDR monitors first. Now they cost as much as 65-inch OLED telly, which is fucking ridiculous.

The HDR thing in mid-00’s has nothing to do with the HDR talk of today. Honestly, it’s annoying that there are 3 different things going on with the same name:
>in-game light effect that imitates human eye response to light
>photography method that combines multiple images of the same thing to one better image
>a screen and source format standard supporting larger dynamic ranges with brightness and colours

because microsoft is completely incompetent
>enabling HDR in Windows means that windows is ALWAYS displaying in the HDR WCG and your desktop is tonemapped extremely poorly into the WCG
literally
>but a fullscreen SDR game will display in SDR
LITERALLY WHAT THE FUCK

JUST HAVE IT DISPLAY SDR UNTIL AN HDR SIGNAL IS DETECTED JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER DEVICE ON THE FUCKING PLANET REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

lol that wasn't real HDR it was just a in-engine simulation of it much like you have in tone mapped HDR videos on youtube.

OLED is shit, kill yourself.

>OLED is shit
Only if you are poor
