V can be stylish, it just takes a lot of work.

I like playing as V and think he was a worthwhile inclusion that made DMC5 feel more unique, but he could have definitely benefited from a month or two of extra polish. Nero and Dante are essentially perfect, given their concept. V has some gaps in his design.

I would:
>map Shadow/Crow positioning to the d-pad
>make Shadow's AI less automated as a result of the above
>add a couple more cane moves, the cane is very underutilized
>make it so aerial Gambit resets after killing an enemy
>have charged moves carry over between dodges/jumps (works for Dante and Nero but not V for some reason)

Maybe some of this can be modded in, would be nice.

Not him but Vergil is tons of fun to play, he's easier sure, but I love how some of his moveset has been incorporated into Dante and V with 5. I actually like V myself a lot in 5, he's definitely the easymode of the crew, but I adore seeing Griffon and Shadow's movesets actually being used, especially Shadow's who had a ridiculous moveset by comparison in DMC1.

V worked just fine. The #1 problem he has is lack of depth, so he's fine as an experiment.

So I just ran the official button mashing casual test. What I did was place all fingers on circle, triangle, square and x put my left thumb on the left analog and moved it in a circular motion rapidly while pressing the other buttons like an autistic son of a bitch.

Here are the results:

Dante: I could get a B with certain styles set

Nero: By far the hardest using this method because his goddamn arms throw him around and shit, but with punchline I was able to get a C and B.

Thing is, I had to really hurt my fingers to get those ESPECIALLY with Nero, holy fucking shit my fingers are bleeding trying to get that B with his breaker arms slowing down the button mash. Dante was kinda the same way with certain styles.

V: using this method I got SSS in 10 seconds, fucking kek

You don't need to with him, because that not how he plays at all, EVERYTHING including his DT is automated. The pets are to literally they spawn close to you. You don't position them at all.

Dante is especially easy to get SSS with if you have any skill thanks to his gigantic moveset.

A large portion of griffon and shadows movesets will move them in some manner, along with your sidestep and backdash. There absolutely are ways to position them. As an example you can do round robin without teleporting griffon back to V.

Am I the only person that dislikes Lady in 4/5? Something about her older designs that just doesn't entirely seem the same as 3, I get she's older, but its something to do with the way they do the faces, Trish is the same way for me in 4/5. Because the game is more about Vergil's journey, the fact that the moment he separates himself its clear that his demon side is stronger to contrast with Dante, and that it was his humanity that he was slowly losing and cracking, which is why V was so weak, but as he actually interacted with more people, such as Nero, Dante, etc. he got stronger and more powerful, but his body couldn't withstand the actual separation. Even Vergil at the end is a different person because of those experiences, to where he thanks Nero, and is even willing to end his grudge with Dante by beating Nero by seeing his strength. They're in Hell just acting likely how they were kids again, it isn't about killing each other, it's just about who is better and stronger truly, who is the better swordsman and fighter. Even then Vergil is salty about Dante either not being able to count or being behind him 1. Vergil probably even teases him that he has a son that is stronger than them both, he's ironically the Sparda of the two.

That's V's purpose, is to help Vergil's character out without it seeming entirely out of place and from left field. It's actually good from that perspective, at least I think so.

yeah, unfortunately capcom is still a relatively small publisher compared to the western giants so Itsuno had a limited budget to work with and couldn't fully realise his vision, this was the most ambitious game in the series by far and a lot of shit is squeezed into the short campaign

Yeah I think when it comes to Eva/Trish it's definitely the hairstyle which does it for me. I'm not sure with Lady, it is the REngine though, so that doesn't help, even if I like the engine a lot and they can actually do good things with it face wise.

What I'm saying is I don't think Sparda and Dante are exactly their devil arms. They're more of a manifestation of their soul, and the same goes for other demons. It's more about the contrast of personality. Of course he'd still have his Paladin/Knight esque personality to him.

Even then, it's pretty clear that Dante and Vergil are stronger than him at this point. I honestly don't see Sparda coming back as an actual character, beyond a flashback cutscene with him fighting Mundus and some demons, but I also don't see him really caring much other than smacking them both upside the head for fighting so much. He did care enough to specifically give each of them a specific sword, it's a very Inuyasha concept really, which is just concepts from other things in that regard. The swords they're given is more to teach them lessons since he likely knew how they would turn out.

I believe one of the Novels says they can willingly turn themselves into Devil Arms if they feel the need to submit themselves to a stronger power, but are just biding their time. I feel Sparda is technically like that, but who knows, we don't really know enough about certain things to say entirely for sure.
Yeah, especially with everything we know of Sparda, I imagine at one point he was definitely your typical demon, which makes me wonder what exactly made him change. We can't assume it was Eva since that was 2000 years ago, unless we find out Eva and Trish are like V/Urizen, which I suppose is actually possible with a slight retcon. We really ought to explore Sparda more, but I also like that it's just part of the mystery of the games.

This is with the entire games in mind my dude. 3lady is powerful enough to keep her up. Same situation with 3. Same situation with 3Vergil. And Nico was atleast entertaining. This is true, but there's likable cringe. Dante's dance or his quips that even other characters can relate to and interact with, and then there's quoting random poetry. Part of this is the reason V had almost no chemistry with any of the characters. There was a disconnect. They're trying to conversate about the situation and here he is spouting random "my soul is dark forever more", turning what could have sparked engaging conversations or banter with other characters into little more than the character who has to hear the shit going "wut nigga" or just completely disregarding it. This wasn't an issue with 4 banter. And that's why I that front I still put 4 and 3 above.

Agreed, but I always viewed that as that's more of his demon/Urizen side than it is his human/V side. Urizen has some similar retorts and remarks back to Dante as well during the game and you can definitely see the Vergil in him. I also think myself that it was more about V/Nero and his humanity knowing Nero was actually his son like Dante knew he was his nephew in 4 and just sort of trying to interact best he could to some extent.

I think the intent is good, but the execution wasn't entirely always there. Vergil as a whole doesn't have this problem because he's whole. I imagine a lot of us would probably have an extremely weird and awkward side if we were split in that way too, while the other is more of her mask/face we show to the public and generally are, or vice versa. But DMC has always had execution problems to an extent for some characters. I think V was an experiment, that didn't always pan out, but the idea and reasoning behind a lot of it was sound. Again, just me though, he's not my favorite, especially compared to his whole Vergil, but not my most hated either.

Urizen being Vergil was a mistake. Vergil works far better as a rival instead of a central antagonist which made DMC5's focus on his comeback extremely fanservicey and lackluster, it honestly kinda ruined the character for me especially with the final fight despite being mechanically superior to Vergil 3.

He was like 16% for the majority of the running at one point he was behind Matt even. Dante and Nero mostly stayed in place and never sunk below Matt. Then he jumped to 18% on around the 4th day. Went back to 17% the following day went back to 18% on the second to last day and went to 19% near the end. The vujos were fighting hard with those vpns, HARD. When V started spilling his story to Trish, I honestly heavily suspected he was bullshitting her. It felt too weird for him not to be Mundus at that point. I couldn't really accept the truth until Vergil Completado showed up. To this day, it weirds me out. I understand what they were trying to do with his character, but I just can't unsee Vdust.

Instead of Urizen and V being part of him they're instead just another demonic beings with history who always come to the human world and fight every 1000 years or some shit which also serves as symbolism for whatever they wanted to with the split half thing. And Vergil should've been the rival boss not Urizen with each of the three heroes fighting him. And the prologue should be an introduction to all characters and how they play of the get go instead going back and forth with it.

To be fair, there was no real point to. Nico was created for the specific reason of being Nero's Lady/Trish. That's why she exist. I believe Itsuno or one of them said they couldn't do Kyrie because she doesn't fight or anything and is a more loving character, and Nero wouldn't want her on the frontlines facing demons, it wouldn't make sense for him to allow that, so they made Nico. More scenes with V and Nico would have taken away from that. They didn't have enough missions or budget as is.

V's closest thing to a sidekick is Nero, but V was more like the sidekick since Nero was handeling all the hard demons for him and carrying him by the end kek
