The card system has no real longevity, once you figure out it becomes an extremely linear, RNG-gated mechanic. You never Spread anything other than Balance or Arrow, and the latter only in certain compositions. People enjoying the current system are just enjoying the dopamine hit from pretend buffs that do almost nothing. One void for AST was that you never really got any feedback from placing a card on someone, now playing cards ties into a job gimmick.

As someone who actually is cautiously hype about the new AST, I'll definitely miss unique card effects, I just don't think XIV's overall design can accommodate them. Same reason we don't really have interesting itemization.

originally it was put there because this game can be played on PS4, but nowdays that we have more oGCD abilities its way faster than that, and in shadowbringers MCH for example is a one job that has a phase on its rotation when they have 1.5s GCD

Sahagin don't have anything cool though aside from the elbst, which I got for far less grinding, AND I got a nice vanity set in the process from doing those two early raids.
