I just saw Godzilla and damn was that disappointing.

I'm not even a movie critic. I loved Pacific Rimjob for fuck's sake, but Godzilla was just completely "eh". The action scenes were cool but the story was not good and parts of the script were just... so fucking stupid.

It was weak. Entertaining, sure, but not something I'm happy to have spent money seeing. Should've waited to pirate it.

The humans I don't mind. Panning away from the fight after every one or two punches to show the humans run away scared was a bit much though.

There's a few clips floating around but I have yet to see an actual camrip.

First one was trying to do "serious" Godzilla but forgot that in order to do that, Godzilla needs to be an actual presence in the story rather than just hide for 2/3 of the movie and get his big introduction fight be cut entirely from the movie.

The humans in KOTM played up the cheese factor of Godzilla and were decent support to the monster fighting. The lead dude's plot could've easily come from any other Godzilla movie so I didn't mind him at all.

Only with critics complaining about human character development on a fucking Godzilla movie, the audience gave it a much higher score.

2014 had a 75/25 split between humans and monsters and felt like a Hollywood movie with a couple of classic Goji moments to pop fans. KotM has around half of the movie dedicated to the four main monsters, who get the spotlight in the pivotal moments and the final shot of the movie. The human elements were also packed with a decent amount of jokes and references to other kaiju movies. Much less of this movie appeals to the average movie critic.

You'll notice Godzilla got little screen time but the MUTO's got plenty to the point where the whole thing could have been their movie, Godzilla comes off as an afterthought, tacked on clumsily and with no obvious respect. Godzilla 2 is what Pacific Rim should have been.
All that build up for all those Jaegers and they all pretty much job to the first few in the movie. There's all of one fight in the movie. Don't get me wrong, I love Pacific Rim, but damn if I wasn't feeling a bit disappointed that there wasn't more fights in it.

The Kraken is referenced in the end credits and shows up in the novelization. The Jinshin-Mushi (MUTO) in KotM seems to be a female although it has a different design and isn't just a copy+paste.

Behemoth is also called "Mapinguary" in the novel, in reference to the Brazilian cryptid that some say is a remnant ground sloth. I wouldn't be surprised if there were some kaiju designs that never made it into the film because they either didn't get a CG model or their model wasn't render-ready.

If you want to make an action-spectacle movie it shouldn't look like garbage. That's not spectacular.

Godzilla 2 sucked. All the fights were in empty wastelands, out in the middle of fucking nowhere, or in a fucking empty Boston City. You didn't get the same sense of scale as you did in the first movie.

Also, Godzilla's atomic breath and Ghidorah's lightning beams were overused. Godzilla used atomic breath just once in the first movie and it was one of the coolest fuck-yeah scenes. I can't remember any scene with that same impact in the second movie aside from Ghidorah charging up using the power station and shooting lightning bolts from his wings.

Plus, the entire family angle was dogshit as well. Who gives a fuck about any of those people?

The new godzilla movie is insubstantial, boring, and has terrible looking effects. 1998 deals with real themes of nuclear fallout and environmentalism just like the original, is fun to watch and still has top tier effects work that blows anything 2010+ out of the water. It still is the most succesful monster movie adjusted for inflation, was the most rented home video for over a decade, and the sequel would have delved even deeper into the man vs nature dilemma, and also featured a giant monster fight, and atomic breath like all the fanboys were clamoring for. It deserved to be made. The only problem was retarded godzilla fans who don't understand godzilla and just want to see muh rubber suits.

Ghidorah, Mothra and Mechagodzilla ones are great. Rest are solid to good with exception being to Son of Godzilla and All Monsters Attack. Hedorah is fucking weird but is fine otherwise.

I legitimately liked the human scenes in the first Legendary Godzilla. I didn't like any of the new characters in the new one. I know the human scenes are never the highlight or the point in these films, but man did it they drag on in this movie. The only likable one was Ken's and they sort of just shoved him aside for a majority of the picture as a supporting character in favor of Kyle Chandler (who I normally like, but not in this film) and Vera's characters.

Scale just wasn't there. There are numerous scenes where Ghidorah comes face to face with a human and the scale just feels totally off compared to what you expect. There's also barely any frame of reference a majority of the time because they're duking it out in mostly empty wastelands or already flattened environments. The first movie did a good job because the camera angles from the human perspective were mostly shot with them looking up at the monsters, giving them a much larger appearance from their perspective, and the environment being very clearly laid out. This one just had the city looking like a toy. It's painfully obvious in the Boston fight scene and it stands out worse than miniatures.
