On Steam, they rarely do as far as I know. And they stay full price for ages.

I'm too lazy to finish Arland, so I never picked it back up even though I have the game.

This goes for almost every atelier. New game is announced while people are still playing the last and no one talks about that one anymore.

Plus people are often backlogged so hard they didn't even play it yet and will be playing Lulua in a few years probably. Not to mention it's often best to wait due extra content that takes months to release.

I haven't done all of Aurel's events yet, but he calls Gio "uncle" in one I've done. It's entirely possible Gio is an 80 year-old virgin.

Physical copies (PS4/Switch only) bottom out at $20 but don't really go below that. I made a painful decision to buy digital only for Atelier games here on out just because of that reason. Digital sales are $42.99 then $35.99 with the exception of some of the Vita games and Sophie since it was the first attempt at porting.

I don't really remember the last time they gave me trouble despite hardest mode, maybe some earlier ateliers (barely remember). I tend to have items already too strong by the time I fight them for the first time (I wish bosses were introduced earlier).

In Firis / L&S it was especially sad given bosses were never getting turns anyway, in Sophie they did get their turn given it was forced but well. Didn't touch Lulua yet so I dunno for that.

Well, L&S blue reflection boss did get turns too since he'd bump his turn every time you used an item.

Between this and Omega Labyrinth Life it's going to be a Magical year

I really like Lulua's cast, there are even characters like Ficus who have a great story concept behind them. I don't mind Totori and Meruru having their party member status relegated to DLC too much since they're still in the base game with events and all, and the base game has eight playable party members already with three being alchemists. I prefer old characters being DLC than new ones, like Rufus and Hanna were in Meruru. Now that is pointless, why even make new characters if you're not going to put them in the base game?

If you mean more aside from the three announced packs, then no. There's the first pack coming out tomorrow which has some outfits, music and a postgame dungeon (Machina Domain, the one from Meruru). Then there will be one with more outfits and Totori as a playable character and one with yet more outfits and playable Meruru, that's it.

They're okay. Honestly I think I'd like them more if they came out once every 2 years instead of every single year. It gets repetitive sticking the same starting attributes on the same starting items year after year. But when I take a year off and come back not feeling sick of them, they're fun.

I wish they'd bring time limits back, though. Gameplay just doesn't feel rewarding without them. They can include a casual mode without time limits too as long as they balance the real game around having limits.

the other atelier you could fuck around for months and be entirely fine, you'd finish everything and still had a whole year left. Eventually they just straight up removed it given people complained about it and it made no difference anyway.

Time limits merely existing did give you some incentive to not spend TOO MUCH time in the atelier making perfect items and then having everything become too easy.

That aside, Firis did have a time limit. Although it wasn't split in tasks and just a big "365 days left" before automatic game over, once you finish that task it went away though.

They added some bosses that power up each time you face them, or just really strong endgame bosses and harder difficulties for people who want to challenge themselves, but it's just not the same. I don't really care about making the perfect equipment setup for my characters to beat the ultimate-powered-up-boss on hardest mode so it never appealed to me.

I'm terrible at these games honestly, I remember that I just barely got the most basic good ending in my first playthrough of Ayesha, but GETTING that good ending just in time felt so good. It wouldn't have felt the same if it was like now where there's no rush or urgency at all.

As a game I thought Sophie was pretty underwhelming myself. World has nothing to it, areas are just boring gather spots with no lore, almost no late/post-game content, few bosses, very easy to get overpowered through sheer stats by just grinding money, etc... It may be easy to "get into" but it also give a bad impression of the series if you ask me.

That aside, Sophie herself as a character is pretty popular, along with her sexdoll. Lot of people started with that on PC too.

..also combat was a classic "input all commands in a row for every characters": then watch all animations with nothing to do.

Most other games have you input something after every attacks.
