Chapter 1 was good, chapter 2 was crap, chapter 3 was okay, chapter 4 was mehmehmeh, chapter 5 was meh, chapter 6 started horrible, became good, then got dumb at the end (but dumb in a funny way, so I'm okay with it), chapter 7 was great, chapter 8 was good, chapter 9 and 10 were fantastic. The ending was okay, but pretty contrived.
Most of the bad parts were at least stupid enough to laugh at how shitty they were, so I still enjoyed them a fair bit.
Oh, and Torna was okay. Kind of a lame 'war', and not as much world building as I wanted, but it ended well.

It was alright, the low budget took me out of it a few times but I at least had the sense to avoid the meme dub. Example being near the end when Rex is confronting the party members in the alternate realities or whatever and he runs away screaming from one of them but they couldn't be bothered to give it a unique animation fitting the situation so they just used his goofy fucking field run. It's hilarious, but it really takes you out of it to see the model rotate and him just instantly breaking into that awful run straight towards the camera.

From what I remember, the only unique models they bothered to make for flashbacks was the kid version of Rex. Everyone else (kid Lora, Rex's parents, Nia's sister and dad, Akhos and Patroka's Drivers) was just a re-purposed NPC model.
They already had a lack of staff and had to outsource to make up for that, so that was probably more of a time issue, not necessarily budget.

Not gonna lie but I definitely felt more motivated to kick Dickson in the dick for killing Shulk and fuck Zanza's shit for all the damage he caused (literally destroying Mechonis, sending Telethia all over the Bionis to reap lives, and basically engineering all of Shulk's life for the sake of his own revival. Mumkhar too. Serving his just desserts was satisfying.

I don't know what to tell you man, he really didn't. It just felt like the game never gave me a good reason to believe that there was a real chance that the party could lose. Especially with the way Alvis was clearly on the party's side, or scenes like the one where Zanza's ruminating to himself about how he can't see the future after a certain point.
Maybe I'm just not the type of person to get intimidated by JRPG villains or something, but in the end I never felt particularly worried for the protagonists in either Xenoblade, so 2's villains not being intimidating wasn't an issue at all for me. If they had actually been bigger threats I can't imagine I would've liked the last few chapters all that much, since Rex's whole 'try to reason with the enemy' thing only made sense when he was essentially taking pity on people who didn't have any real chance of beating the party anymore.

If you clear all sidequests in Torna, the final sidequest results in a woman giving Addam a jar of pickled vegetables for curing her daughter's rare disease and him saying those are his wife's favourites and he'll be sure to give them to her, revealing he has a pregnant wife waiting for him at his manor. Mythra will never be nothing more to Addam than his bratty adopted daughter at best and any and all MythraXAddam ships sank down the moment this was revealed.

That's the whole point.
You go through the game at first expecting Malos to be the heartless, cruel asshole he seems to be at the start. But then everytime you see him he's perfectly decent to his crew, he's treated surprisingly sympathetically and he's never doing anything like punishing their failures or anything as dumb as that- he goes out of his way to rescue them, or look after them.
Similar to Amalthus, he's the reason everything's fucked up, but we see huge segments of the story showing sympathetic or amoralising sides of him. His conversations with Zeke are top Kino especially.
XBC2 isn't a story with any truly easy, Evil villains. Amalthus probably wouldn't have even done anything if Rex hadn't lost to Malos/Jin, he only acts because he's lost faith in Rex. And Malos was born from Amalthus's long-standing hatred of humanity, he doesn't particularly want to destroy anything, but that's all that he has.
Same with all the Torna crew, notice how the only one who doesn't die is Nia? The one who actually has a Driver. A Blade without a Driver is lost without purpose, and so the Torna crew attach themselves hopelessly to Malos's purpose (something he himself points out the absurdity of, since he doesn't even believe in his purpose).

It's an intractable situation, and yet it's one we have to fix, because Malos puts everyone at risk. You beat Malos and Jin together, 2 chapters before the end of the game, because as powerful as he is, he can't match the power of an Aeigs+Driver. And yet, he's still the final boss, you chase him, practically hunting him down.
We specifically have a scene before the final fight where Rex talks about how he doesn't WANT to kill Malos, he wants to talk him down and solve it peacefully. The game clearly doesn't intend for him to come across as the evil, unstoppable force that has to be overcome. He's just a fucked up guy on a fucked up course.
And, when he has to do so, Rex does kill him. Because the fate of the world was at risk. Every part of it is specifically meant to be a suversian of JRPG tropes. Hell, we meet God and thank him for creating us, God is a good guy!

Pyra and Mythra play really well off each other. While Mythra is strong and brash Pyra is dotting and (relativley) weak. While Mythra is unable to express her emotions Pyra is affectionate. These characteristics show how both girls deal with the strife that the aegis war caused. While mythra want's to recoile from the world and never be seen again Pyra seems almost too reliant on others. It's not like her only motivation is to serve the self-insert either(not that I think rex is a self insert). A major plot point is that she was lying to rex about her true intentions in order for him to go along with it. She came into the world having to deal with the consequences of her sister killiing thousands of people and as a result hates herself. She isn't afraid of her power so much as she hates the idea that her only purpose is destruction (as Malos is convinced it is). Shes strong willed enought though to know that she can't just kill herself (which she obviously could with siren) because that would allow Malos to wreak havoc onto the world. Because of rex's unyielding optimism and acceptance of her she's able to come to terms with herself and realize that she love's herself and the people around her which in turn gave her a purpose to live. To call her just a waifu is selling her short.

I find the problem is that Shulk and Fiora's relationship is largely based around their backstory, which we never experience. The childhood friend love interest is a romantic shortcut, but it tends to exist around telling you that they are in love, rather than showing why.
But as for Melia, people just wanted her to have some apparent happiness after everything she goes through, and feel she didn't really get that. So less about her and Shulk having some great chemistry and more about throwing her a bone. It doesn't help that the game wanks off to Fiora so hard when she never truly suffers any consequences.

As a Blade Eater, Mikhail shows the ability to mimic a Flesh Eater and can bond to Rex, Nia, Mòrag, and/or Zeke in NG+. Zeke and Amalthus would presumably have the same ability, though Amalthus being a Master Driver adds some uncertainty. Rex being bonded with Pyra/Mythra's Core Crystal is also different to being a Blade Eater, as Pyra and Mythra described Haze's missing Core Crystal piece as being different to what went on with them and Rex.

Problem with Pyra is, as has been said, she just comes across as too 'perfect'. Mythra is deeply flawed, and is treated as such, particularly within Torna. Pyra was created by Mythra to be an ideal based on things like Jin's comment that she lacked compassion or her inability to cook. Thing is that these should have come with their own downsides; for example, due to being so overly compassionate, Pyra would be rather weak-willed. Or that she would lack Mythra's ability to approach situations in a more calculating manner.
These things don't happen though. Instead all we get is she inherits Mythra's suicidal tendencies and deceives Rex as a result. And neither of these are really treated as flaws. Instead we get someone who is incapable of fault outside of being the weaker one and is loved by everyone. It makes her come across as kind of bland, especially since there are dozens of JRPG females just like that.

The only reason Mik can act as a Blade is because he's eaten a complete core and gained the full powers of a Blade, such as the power to summon a Blade weapon. Zeke is only a partial Blade Eater and as such can't fill in for a Blade

He didn't expose any emotions at all, and that's probably why he does so in the base game. Milton's death probably made him realize that he didn't get to express how much he cared about him. U wot? Pyra gets the vast majority of screentime by comparison to Mythra. The entirety of Fonsett, when Pyra is saving Rex and the gang from Jin and company, when Malos is mind-raping Pyra and it has all her memories of Rex. If anything it's Mythra who needed more moments. Mythra doesn't really ever get anything comparable to the Fonsett part. Hell she only gets a handful of heart-to-hearts compared to Pyra's dozens.
The only reason it seems like Pyra's development stops is because she can't really develop, as she's pretty much completely blushy-crushy over Rex as early as chapter 3.
And not a single one of these things is ever treated as a flaw. Rex overusing her powers is treated as his fault. Putting herself in danger is treated as her being brave and selfless. And I don't think it's ever been implied that she has made anyone uncomfortable.

It would have been really interesting seeing him reunite with Jin. You don't really see much that implies he has any sort of history with Jin apart from the actual Torna cutscenes. Mythra doesn't even acknowledge him. The one thing I've noticed is him being the one to confirm to Jin that Indol is using Haze after the end of chapter 4.
All I can do is guess what happened in the interim.

Like what? The game was fine but no generic trope seemed subverted to me. MC gets confessed to and somehow completely miss interprets it, antagonist hundreds of years old gets a change of heart easily because MC gives him the usual righteous MC speech, main love interest "sacrifices" herself and then comes right back a few minutes later, and the game ends pretty much like XC1.

XBC2 threads used to be shitposted constantly with people who posted about two characters Mythra and Addam being a couple.
This was specifically used for shitposting more than usual because the girl becomes one of the MC's love interests. So the joke was that she was used goods and that Rex was just picking up another man's scraps, the usual autism.
Then along came the Torna expansion, which showed their relationship properly and the whole game makes it clear that Addam treats her like his bratty daughter. And at the end it shows that he's already married anyway, and has a young kid of his own. It's very clear there's no romance between them and never was. To drum that in insanely hard, at her darkest hour, she even has a prophetic dream of Rex reaching out to save her, in the future.
The shitposters were BTFO so incredibly hard that all posts on that topic instantly dried up, never to be seen again. To a lesser extent, the same same as the "Nia got cucked!" shitposting, after the NG+ update
Anyway, get the fuck out of this thread. People will casually drop the biggest plot spoilers in these threads, and the game works a billion times better if you don't already know where it's going to go, it does a really, really good job with its reveals, always giving answers while introducing more questions, until the final chapters where it's all made clear.
Also: Play with JP voices. Just turn it into English when messing around in the overworld to get all the banter.
