It's not that simple

Generally comboing into launches are much lower damage, so there is a tradeoff where you can do a combo that can be countered or you play it safe and launch early to take that option away. Equally, usually you won't launch on the first hit or even the second, so the opponent still has the chance to hold. That said, there is a lot of risk in being trigger happy with holds as the opponent need only stop for a moment to bait it and can then throw you for huge damage.

here's my take:
doa5 has a lot more features, characters, costumes, easier unlocks, soft engine

but imo, doa6 has the funner fairer gameplay. There are more defensive options in doa6. Meanwhile, doa5 is all about who can get critical burst first.

Real talk? Because the devs have no real idea on what to do with the series anymore and KT won't give them the budget to do anything revolutionary even if they had ideas. DOA was Itagaki's baby, and the only good idea nu-TN has had since he left was the long overdue model upgrade, and even that garners mixed reactions from the fanbase.
