I don't doubt the reasoning behind this, but from a story perspective there was no real build up to it. I mean, I've known people that can go from 0 to 100 in a fraction of a second just from saying the wrong word, but this just felt like it came out of nowhere and never happens again. I don't think it doesn't work very well in the story it's trying to tell.
