Super Mario 64
SA1 was a more ambitious project that attempted to include legitimate exploration and adventure to the series. As a kid I enjoyed looking around the world and trying to find the next adventure stage or finding little secrets like the powerup in the elevator and what not. I liked the soundtrack and most of the level designs in SA1 more as well (City Escape and a lot of the Knuckles stages were pretty cool though).
SA2:B has the better Chao garden and it's probably the best part of both games. The general quality of life improvements (Knuckles/Rogue being able to track all 3 emeralds at once instead of a forced order being the most notable one) but it's generally the weaker of the two. If SA1:DX just implemented the QOL improvements of the second game it would be legitimately great.

I like 2 given its development conditions, but even then I played battle and not the original release of 2. 2 has the superior soundtrack however
SA1. SA1 has the adventure fields and you can play whatever story in whichever order after Sonic’s. You’re not forced to go through several Tails or Eggman missions at once waiting for the next fun part. Big the Cat is a mini game that comprises 15 entire minutes of the overall game. Also, the emerald radar is 1 billion times better in SA1 than it is in 2

i liked sonic adventure more than 2. even if the adventure fields didn't add too much, i liked them a lot.
the game is pretty good in my opinion but it's fair to think it was bad, but sa2 was far from the reason they went bankrupt and you are a brainlet for thinking that.
if you think the mech stages in 2 were better than gamma's stages, you are a very silly boy indeed.

Cosmic Wall is better than all of Gamma's stages though, and the rest of Eggman's stages are on par. Tails is very much lacking though, even though I liked them.

3D Sonic controlled the best he ever had in those games, the camera was the only issue and it was only an issue maybe a fourth of the time.
cosmic wall is definitely super high tier, and i'd probably put it above most of gamma's stages if not all of them. the stages aren't the problem, though; it's how jank the mechs feel. the slowing to a crawl on turns, how heavy the jumps feel even if they really aren't that bad. even the targeting laser sounds worse. where gamma's has the medium pitch and medium tone chirping, eggman and tails have a high pitch, loud, single tone screech.

More like, Gamma's story was one of best things of the Sonic franchise and his vehicle form was fun but that's it. His levels were shit and very short except for the last one that was different and not reused from other characters. His bosses were patheticly easy, even the last boss fight was despite that great music theme and how that fight was handled. And dont forget that combos only added fucking time that didnt matter shit since the levels were short
Shooting levels in SA2 were much better, the shooting felt better, trick system was great, levels had alternative paths and shortcuts. The mechs do feel heavy(Tails mech just feels weird), which is why Comisc Wall is loved because of the floaty physics, but Gamma never had those, he also felt heavy as fuck.
Both games are great, but I have a soft spot for 1 because it was the first game I beat on my own as a kid and E102 Gamma is one of my favorite vidya characters.

I don't care for Adventure 1's hub. I just don't care about it, it isn't particularly charming or interesting to me, and I find having to deal with it sort of grating. I do prefer Adventure 1's level design, though. Platforming has more of a presence in Sonic's levels. There are still tons of moments that are just mindless running or spectacle, but the game does at least pretend to be a platformer on occasion. SA2 dispenses with that pretension, but it doesn't replace it with anything good either. Both of them feel a little hollow to play in that respect, even if getting S ranks or A ranks is more demanding than it might seem.
