Deem Bristow(Eggman's Adventure-era VA) died shortly after Heroes was released and Sega decided to replace the entire cast with the Sonic X VAs instead of just getting a replacement

I'm valuing the voice and direction itself more than the delivery. SA 2 was just harder to take seriously in tense situations. Compare his transformation in SA 1 to the fake emerald scene in SA 2.

Griffith is a much better Shadow then Thorton.

Fucking love this game, one of my favorites.

They're both great, Roger's the only one I dislike due to him being so different from any previous English depiction of Sonic. Even Ben Schwartz is more in-line with the others, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's one of the reasons he was chosen over someone that'd sound closer to Roger.

Roger sounds absolutely nothing like Ryan or Jason. Say what you will about Jason, but at least his later performances actually sounded like a more "mature" version of Ryan's depiction of the character.

And then once the Sonic X contract expired, SEGA kicked them all out except for Mike Pollock as Eggman, who admittedly has proven to fit the role quite well.

They replaced him with Jason without his knowledge. Same goes for the rest of the (living) cast. As much as I like the 4Kids cast you've got to admit that's pretty fucked.

It's important to note that SEGA actually did consider bringing Ryan back after Jason left in 2010. He was on board until they told him that he had to leave his union. Ryan wasn't having that shit so he refused and we got Roger instead.

Fun fact; they were done by the same team that animated those old Tek Deck commercials. Sega then proceeded to steal the idea for Riders from them.

pollock (eggman's current VA) debunked this in an interview. the decision to replace them with the 4kids VAs was apparently made before bristow's death, likely because the original voice cast started asking for better pay or something.
