What the fuck. I remember playing this as a kid

This game was awesome

>Poland rallies under one banner and tries to bring this game back
>publisher sees it and ends up publishing it on Steam free of charge for a limited time

Based.

It'll cost like $1-2 when it isn't free anymore. They just really wanted more people to play the game and enjoy it

Based

Man, the early 2000s had so many furry platformers

This game is really fun, was it inspired by rayman?

looks fun
having it free on launch is an interesting hype method
gurumin did the same

>Free platformer that can run on my toaster
Fucking nice. Thanks OP. Never once heard of this game but the idea that it's out and free because of fan outcry must mean something.

Attached: 1471142541351.png (402x536, 402K)

thanks babe

It's been fun playing it again. It is a kid's game though so it's been ridiculously easy but it's charming and pretty damn fun. Just like I remember, also the accents are great.

the game came out in 2003

Thanks faggot

Its funny when you go into water because there is no swimming animation. His neck just stretches unnaturally long to stay above the water, lmao.

Thanks for the heads up OP, looks like a fun little platformer to play over the summer.

bump

Thank you

Does it contain everything from the upgraded version?

There's an upgraded Kangaroo?

what would be like just hanging inside a kangaroos pouch? do you think it smells bad? haha

>Kao Challengers is an action-adventure video game featuring Kao the Kangaroo. Challengers is an enhanced remake of Kao the Kangaroo: Round 2, released a year earlier in Europe.
According to Wikipedia.

>Kao's Fucking Pissed

The only notable difference is outside of multiplayer games is new voice acting
youtube.com/watch?v=tEp1G0a6fOg

do i need to play 1 before 2?

Bro, you won't stand a chance at understanding the lore if you don't play 1

Just seems like a poor man's Ty the Tasmanian Tiger to me.

Attached: 51XG8ZNBEAL.jpg (500x500, 53K)

>2
Does it hold up compared to the first?

Yes, it is mandatory to understand the lore.

Just how deep is Kao the Kangaroo's lore?

It's super deep. I bet you don't even know the massive spoiler about the beavers.

the other way around
Ty is soulless

oh cute thanks op

Epic on suicide watch

The raw physical prowess and masculine strength of Kao the Kangaroo, enables my deeply repressed homosexuality.

I forgot to add that the publishers are also the devs.

how does he open mail with boxing gloves on?

where's round 1??

Punches it open, duh

I eagerly anticipate Kao 3: Rise of the Kao Klux Klan

Is it any good? I played it once as a kid and hated it for some reason.

There was a Kao 3 my man.

So why aren't it and 1 on Steam?

The second game was added on Steam literally today. Don't know why they chose this game over the first or the third one. Maybe they thought it's the most refined. It's the only game that has voice acting, so maybe that was one of the reasons behind the decision.

we had TONS of games in the early 2000's, unlike nowadays...

For those who like this game, theres actually a 3rd game and it was only released in europe and on PC. There are fan made translations for it and it plays a lot like the first jak and daxter game. Pretty fun

I think it was only released in it's native country, Poland if I remember well

That's probably why there isn't many being made today.
Lack of creativity, and oversaturation of the market with boring Jak and Daxter clones ended up permanently damaging the genre, and gave it a kiddy game label.

From what I can gather from this thread and the Steam page, Kao 2 is a cult classic in Poland and wasn't available to get anywhere, so fans petitioned for a release of the game on PC and the rights holder and/or publisher listened.

more like everyone wanted to do AAA hyper realistic graphics instead of focusing on gameplay and physics, raising the game's cost and investing only on different flavored Call Of Dutys

Based Poland.

That to, but don't act as if the majority of mascot platformers weren't more of the same.
Studios like Naughty Dog, and Insomniac kept the genre around since they innovated and did things first. Nintendo was always strong with Mario.
A lot of B-Tier games that came out around that time took elements from the majorly successful franchises and incorporated them.
Even Crash and Spyro ended up doing this to an extent before the super death blood edge set in and they had to reinvent themselves.

a lot of B tier platformers of that era where quite decent and entertaining games

>Kao 3
>search
>There seriously is
How did I not know this?
Finding a download to play it now

based. had an itch for some platformers and bought sonic forces last week. that was a fucking mistake. this game better be comfy

Lew Leon re-release WHEN?

Attached: 595424-lew-leon-dos-screenshot-final-enemy-in-the-first-level.png (640x400, 63K)

Turns out that Kao was also pretty popular in Straya as well somehow. Turns out Kao 3 actually got a very limited release over here. I wonder if I can find a legit copy?

why are there like no games from poland?

CD Projekt Red is Polish. I'd assume the lack of games is because the country didn't have an industry for vidya for a while. CDPR started out making bootlegs of games that were never released in Poland.

Yeah, but then GTA3 happened and developers simply couldn't justify making platformers anymore.

most countries don't have a powerful entertainment industry like USA, Japan, France... this makes difficult to see such kind of projects appear in those places
Entertainment it's a luxury it comes after many other things

Name devs more based than the Kao devs

Attached: Based Devs.png (584x416, 56K)

There were Polish video games being made on the C64, the Amiga and PC MS-DOS throughout the 90s, but The Witcher series was the first game that would gain such a huge worldwide recognition followed up by titles released by other polish companies.

Attached: 3534_4f01958614738.jpg (640x400, 130K)

They didn't get a real middle-class until the 90s. Computers were a huge luxury to them, especially video games.

pretty sure theres goo in there

I feel like shit after being downloaded the game for free, this are the kind of devs who deserve those 20$

ya know, i was pissed because i'm not in my pc and can't enter steam.
now i am not, i will actually buy the game from them rather than nab it for free

The actual price is $2 as well so they aren't trying to rip you off, I really hope they bring the 3rd across as well. I'll definitely buy that or the first game legit(I've never played those).

>Some limitations apply. (?)
I have no idea what this is supposed to mean.

Attached: 1536372770824.png (180x156, 7K)

>Some limitations apply
Where are you seeing that?

are the Stalker games Polish?

You don't get trading cards from games you got during a free giveaway

Nah, those were made by Ukrainian developers.

Apparently, when a company puts out a game for free on Steam but only for a limited time, there is still a limited number of copies that can be claimed. When Guacamelee was free it got scooped up fast so I missed out. No clue why this is the case; my hunch is that you have to pay Steam fees per sale even if it's 100% off, so you'd need the game's base "price" to be Free to avoid that, and in this case the game is normally $1.99, although that's my guess.

Or that maybe, could be different limitations entirely. I already got my copy so figure it out.

1 has issues with modern systems and 3 has only Polish and Czech language options since this is a Polish series and they never published the 3rd one globally hence why they only put up 2 for now.
They said on forums they want to make 1 and 3 happen as well so I assume they are working on compatibility for 1 and translation for 3.

Metro is also Ukrainian, right? At least the author of the books?

If you view the page when logged out and hover over the question mark it will tell you what the limitations are.

so this means, despite having this game in my library now if I format my PC and try to reinstall it like a year later it will not be on my library anymore?

Man, for a genre that has like, only 300 or so games in it; there's a lot of good 3D platformers. It's crazy how like, 20 (decent games only) IP's from the mid 90's to the early 2000's got their start in the genre.

No, it just means that sometimes, when a game is free on Steam, only a limited number of people can get it for free. Not sure if this is the case here, but it was for Guacamelee.

Steam.niggers don't allow purchases though the steam app what the fuck are they thinking. How else am I suppost to use steam at 11 pm at night.

Once you claimed the game it's tied to your Steam account indefinitely. It just means that there are limited copies that can be claimed for free.

>2$
these guys are too kind.

you can login on the steam website on your browser and claim it. you don't need to use steam or the app.

this kangaroo looks cute as fuck and i dont mean it like a furry way, he just looks so cute

This

Had no idea that Bulletstorm, Call of Juarez, Dead Island, Hatred, and Superhot were Polish. Neat.

Ay, I remember first playing this game at a friend's place when I was a kid. What a cute, soulful game. For some reason the sound design in particular really stuck with me after all these years.

>All of the Call of Juarez games except "The Cartel" which wan Ubisoft turd
which was*

Agreed

Earth 2170 when? Are the devs who made these games still active?

Attached: 99209-earth-2150-trilogy-windows-front-cover.jpg (800x1129, 252K)

...i'm going to wait, it's 2 bucks afterwards.

go to cry on your square

There's a lot more games I missed but they are either shitty (Sniper Ghost Warrior) or not really known (Ancient Space, which is what devs of Hard West made before Hard West) and whatnot.

Same devs as Two Worlds and KnightShift so yes, but they are busy working on Two Worlds 3 now.
I doubt they will make a new Earth game sadly.

This please

maybe it's on the way?
i mean, kao 2 is the best one, so it would make sense for it to be ported

>I doubt they will make a new Earth game sadly

Are the devs even allowed to make a new game or is TopWare the IP holder?
Also, I challenge you to find a more cheesy video made for a video game that would convey late 90s to early 2000s.

All Reality Pump games are pretty much owned by TopWare cause TopWare is their publisher.

I was one of the few weird people who actually played the first one as a kid on the dreamcast. Albeit only briefly though. I didn't even know there were sequels until today.

the real question is Kao 3 official translation?

free game sweet!
>those controls

Attached: grevus.jpg (300x300, 15K)

This, I got the english patch working but I'd love to see a proper release of 3 and hope this means there's enough interest to make a 4th

Played it last night and its fucking comfy
The beaver really freaks me out though

Is there a level select at some point? I kind of want to get the achievements but can't be fucked scouring the entire level on a first run just to find one coin.

if you hover your mouse over it it will tell you that these free givaways are "while supplies last" and as other anons said they won't drop trading cards (assuming the game even supports them)

Yes, if you ever quit out of a sequence of levels you have a level select available. Also if you enter a new area you can use that to go to the previous levels as well

what's wrong with the controls?

camera controls are bound to arrow keys

Ty is Aussies trying to make a cool game like Sonic Adventure 2 but as a regional scotformer.
Kao is Rayman Bandicoot with a cute at player character.
