You can get respec points from doing quests. Unless your build is extremely fucked up, you can salvage it. Just make sure in the future that you have a vision for your character and are putting points towards that vision. It doesn't have to be something in-depth, just know what type of magic you want to use, or if you're using weapon based builds, what kind of weapons you want to use.

You can use any type of gem setups you want, but know that you are best served deciding on a "main" ability and linking that skill gem with as many supports as you can. If you have a chest armor with 4 linked sockets, put your main skill and 3 supports in there.

Thanks, but it's kinda hard to have a vision for a character when you have no clue how the game works.

Just roll with it, and play hardcore after you've gotten a character into maps. The fun is building characters.
Game's a bit bloated, you can ignore like 90% of the leftovers from each league but knowing which is pretty much just trial and error.
You can still boil it down to whether you want to be a caster, attack character, if you want to use ES or life, what form of defense you want, which skills feel satisfying to you etc. It's just the execution that's a bit iffy.

>game's a bit bloated
a bit

When do you get to maps anyway?

Follow a build guide for your first character.

Also a newbie here, having fun abusing spectral throw as a duelist, altough i have no idea how to build him properly

After wrapping up act 10, usually character level 60-65 depending on how much side stuff you do.

Make an Arcwitch, abuse it to no end

Don't neglect putting points into life
You can make it decently far without any life but after a point you will hit a wall where you can't progress

just like IRL

Put all points into HP nodes. This game turns piss easy with high hp

New league in like a week. Wait for it.

what happens when a new league is released?

people start playing again, everyone makes new characters, new mechanics are introduced, economy gets reset

Everyone starts from scratch. Economy reset. New gimmicks, skills, items.

Use a guide for your first character.

Find one of comprehensive guides for playstile you want and follow it. You won't be able to make working build yourself until you have at least dome depth of understanding.
Also wait 7th for new league with fresh economy. Permanent isn't a good place to start as newfag who has nothing.

Most important thing is to remember that poe is jew simulator first and foremost and only then an ARPG. If you aren't ready to jew you won't like this game.
There is solo self found mode, but it's more of a challenge mode for people who want to try out something new, and you won't be able to make most builds in it.

If you decide to spend some cash on this game get a currency tab and a premium tab for easy trading. Currency tab is pretty much a must-have if you are going to play this game seriously.
I personally played several leagues without buying anything to see if I would want to continue and spend some cash.

how can you jew people then?

buy the dip retard

You're not going to. I've 3k hours and still have no fucking clue what whatever I'm selling is worth. But you should come to terms with the fact that 99% of your upgrades will be purchased, and not found. Just selling some crap and mainly doing the chaos/regal recipe makes enough to gear up most builds in a very reasonable timeframe. Could also run the lab if you want to commit suicide though sheer tedium.

where do you buy good shit anyway?

>women touching or knowing how to use a washing machine in 2019

kek

You use the poe.trade site or .xyz, or whatever it is now. The main reason people say you need stash tabs is you can hook them up to list whatever you put in them on trading sites. Before that, people used to use the forum, make shop threads where they list their inventory, and spam shitty clickbait titles whenever they got anything good.

Trade chat is just people jews jewing jews, don't bother with that spam.

Does PoE have a beam spell like D3's Disintegrate or GD's Aether Ray?

scorching ray

Yeah, scorching ray is what you're looking for. That or the lightning kamehameha, divine ire or whatever.

You're supposed to sell what you don't want and buy what you want for your build. Doing it correctly is key to sucess, because good shit costs. I never was into full time jewing, but there's stuff any players who cares for his cash has to do - like sniping items you seek for cheap through monitoring aggregators, or setting up own shop instead of going to flippers if you're looking for currency exchange.
>I've 3k hours and still have no fucking clue what whatever I'm selling is worth
Then you're doing something extremely wrong. Some leagues up to 1/3 of my income used to be from identifying and selling rares. Learn to do it.
>chaos/regal recipe
Oh for fuck's sake.
NEVER
EVER
DO
CHAOS
RECIPE
This shit is mind-numbing, and overall takes so much time it will be easier to run entire map and look those few chaos worth of currency. Its tedium is just the thing to turn new player off. It's most vicious noob trap of them all
Besides, I wonder how many unidentified 1ex+ rings/amulets you wendored for 2c?

Thanks, I love beam spells. I'll give PoE a try after I'm done with GD.

>Then you're doing something extremely wrong.
Yeah. Playing the game, not people.
>Learn to do it.
no
>identifying and selling rares
No shit.
>This shit is mind-numbing
Recipe takes no time at all.
Just dump your trashy jewelry and when you've got a couple columns pick up some other trash and pawn it off.
>Besides, I wonder how many unidentified 1ex+ rings/amulets you wendored for 2c?
Probably none, the odds of getting decent jewelry is fucking abysmal with how many affixes are open to them, and getting a good ilvl 60 one? I hope you don't gamble.

so this is what girls do

As a complete noob to Path of Exile (and other similar games) anyone got a recommendation on a form of magic build, like classes and such? Preferably not based only on late game but also early/mid game.

Early game is pretty easy for most casters in PoE. Check their forum for guides. I remember there being good Ark Elementalist one, but there's probably more.
>like classes and such
"Class" in PoE defined firstly by main skill you build around, and secondly by ascendancy class.
