What video game has the best story?
What video game has the best story?
tetris
Unironically this. If you want story, go read a book.

Seething boomers
>riveting
>emotionally resonant

I thought bashing in fungus man with a plank of wood was pretty riveting
Not that one, that's for fucking sure.
>best story
If we are talking about maturity it's definitely

Goddammit
>mass effect

I loved Mass Effect 1 and the worldbuilding is great but it's not exactly Citizen Kane. It's super straightforward.
>portal 2
>16
>we need to contrive more varied levels
DMC3 has a very simple story but the execution is great.
Arriving at the Citadel for the first time is one of the most greatest moments of all time
> Bioshock
> 21
Defend this Yea Forums, you faggots said it was a piece of shit.
>BIG PLACE
It is. It might deserve to be on the list, for sure. But Deus Ex is 31? Have to hand it to ME1 for not being bogged down with anything more than simply introducing a threat. But is the game where a lot of the padding missions are simply driving around and clearing enemies everywhere out of a copy-pasted bunker really that good story-wise?
Deus Ex is extremely bland & there isn't memorable in it aside from "Muh Redpills"
Have you played it or just watched some youtube videos?
It does say Deus Ex 2000
Played it, the level design is god tier but it was boring as fuck & i dropped it during the Paris levels
> Shadow of the Colossus
This list belongs in the trash
SoTC is fucking kino you absolute brainlet, go back to your BING BING WAHOO shit
I remember everything from Deus Ex. Everything.
The only redeemable quality of that game was the soundtrack. The controls, world design, gameplay, and story were all bottom of the barrel dogshit. The only reason people gave a fuck is because it was technologically impressive for 2005.
RDR2
Imagine being this bad at a game
>oot on the top
>a chosen hero saves princess from evil guy story
>better than silent hill 2
>better than mgs2
>better than final fantasy 6
>better than deus ex
>better than bioshock
>majora's mask is not even on the list
are you fucking kidding me
Imagine justifying janky controls and hitboxes with "just get used to it lol"
>Ocarian of Time at number 1
>Kotor but no Kotor 2
>Heavy Rain on the list at all
>Bioshock Infinite on the list at all
>emotionally resonant story-driven epic
aka movie game
next
>Biocock Infinite higher then SS2
Yeah dude whatever
>Game with no replayability, tons of walking sections, a garbage higher difficulty and bad AI gets a 10/10 because it's almost like a movie
Can't wait for the next sad dude in a forest simulator
IF U WNT STORY GO BOOK REED
GAMIS NO STRY
Ape escape
>kotor but no kotor 2
MUH OBSIDIAN WATCH THIS 2 HOUR VIDEO ABOUT KREIA BRO I'M TOTALLY NOT DOING THIS BECAUSE IT FEEDS MY PSEUDO-INTELLECTUALISM
MGS4
>Alan Wake but not pic related
Seethe more, OOT is literally the single most memorable game of all time. Every moment of the story is iconic as fuck
Killer 7, Silent Hill 2 and Pathologic are the first that come to the mind. Though I do realize these are kinda cliché answers.
Fuck off, two of those are fedora-fag garbage that only pretenious hipsters think is good
im not saying the game is bad, but the story is nothing special, even for a zelda game
The storytelling is flawless & the fact that every single second of the story is memorable proves that it deserves it's spot at the top with Silent Hill 2
LISA was pretty good story wise
Fuck that, tetris is to politicized. I like to play games where the story is fun, not some propaganda.
Prey 2017 doesn't sacrifice gameplay but still has a good story. Maybe lore and world building moreso, but those should count for something.
the house of the dead 2
Obviously Planescape
>The storytelling is flawless
its literally the videogame hero journey template
>every single second of the story is memorable
alright, now explain what makes something memorable
majora's mask should be in there instead, even if you say the game is inferior, the story is something that has never been done before and would be impossible to make in any other media
Just... no
Yes, no amount of crying will change it from sitting at the top of the all-time lists
maybe not from your own list but someone elses yes
appeal to popularity
OOT only sold 10 million copies, it's not that popular of a game. Continue seething though
>zombies are everywhere
>guy finds girl
>girl is immune
>guy rejects girl
>girl grows on guy
>girl gets taken by someone who was thought to be good due to her immunity
>guy kills kidnapper
Carbon copy of the story of Dead Island
so, are you going to explain why link to the past 3d is better than majoras mask?
>it's not that popular of a game
based retard
> Waaah Majora's Mask
Pathetic
lisa is the superior version of this type of story
>playing games for the story
cool, now explain why im wrong
based
Metal Gear Solid 1-2-3
>DE SHITIZUN KAYNE OF GAYMING
I fucking hate this phrase because it gets thrown around every year by clueless retards. Metal Gear Solid 1 created the fucking template for movie games, so from that perspective it's the "Citizen Kane" of gaming.
Mass effect 1 is great due to a mix of things, its story alone is not that amazing
> Fedora's Mask fags BTFO'd
> Deus Ex fags BTFO'D
> New Vegas fags BTFO'D
Based
MGS 2 and 3 before 1... red dead fucking redemption before MGS1... what kind of zoomer did this?
>i put a game low on a list i made therefore they were BTFO'd
I didn't even make this you seething faggot, continue crying about it though. It's hilarious
Mainstream Journalists probably
RDR2 for narrative
Destiny for overall lore
Pic unrelated i am guessing
Knew a guy who wouldn't stop shilling that game. He also preferred battlefield to cod because it was "more realistic". In other news, I egg his house every month or two and he still hasn't figured out it's me.
This.
I really love Fatal Frame 1-2-3. I'm not even a big japanophile but something about those hard as nails, dark as shit occult misunderstood shinto death rituals gets me incredibly excited. They're also very aloof at times, which just adds to the strange atmosphere.
System Shock 2 is the better overall game, but they were only ranking the storylines.
The environmental storytelling, characters, and background exposition in SS2 are great, but the actual story events are mainly just padding for the game. The entire first half of the game is "turn this elevator on, then clear the elevator shaft so you can get up to deck 4."
The second half of the game is just you running chores, more or less.
Outside of Finkton, Infinite's story has very little unnecessary padding, the characters are still great, and there are plenty of small twists or revelations in the plot that keep it more interesting.
And just for reference, this is my steam account with 151 hours in SS2. I know both games very well, and I would say story is one of the things that Infinite manages to take over any other game in the series
Quantum Break
Spec Ops The Line
Morrowind
Hotline Miami 1-2
A simple tale of good vs evil like Link vs Ganon, Sonic vs Eggman. Belmont vs Dracula
Who is the evil in The Last of Us the zombies or the humans themselves?
is that you chad?
OoT, the coming of age story is one of the few that works well with video games, and it's done exceptionally, to a degree that outclasses others to a significant enough level to be considered definite
I only read non-fiction books. Fiction is for children. Stories should be in games and movies and that's it
This, OOT has unironically become brainlet filter
This is actually the worst video game list I've ever seen and I'm not even joking. Gamers have absolute dog shit taste in storytelling.
>Zelda games anywhere near this list?
>MGS games anywhere near this list?
>Final Fantasy games anywhere near this list?
>Bioware games near the top of the list?
>David Cage game on this list?
I mean... seriously what the fuck guys?
You just have horrible taste & nobody will ever agree with any of your opinions. Cope with this fact
Yeah, enjoy the profound stories of Zelda, I guess. Or you're more of a Kojima/David Cage fan? That shit is definitely NOT embarrassingly bad...
Call of Duty Modern Warfare
The only thing embarrassing is your contrarianism
witcher 3
halo 1-reach/odst (and surrounding lore books)
kotor 1/2
Valkyrie Profile
Odin Sphere
Start naming games lil nigga.
The Witcher Saga
This is why democracy is flawed.
Portal 1/2
Undertale
999
Ghost Trick
The last case in each Ace Attorney game
