Serious talk, I'd expect that the other tech giant (Microsoft) to at least be on par but Sony really has no competition. Xbox has the most powerful console of this generation and is the most consumer friendly with acceptable backwards compatibility. It doesn't make sense, A lot of the PS4 library is on PC or Xbox as well so I would expect the sales of both consoles to be like the previous generation where there was no obvious gap in console sales, except it's the PS2 era all over again with PlayStation winning by a large margin.

However I'm talking from an European point of view, wher Sony reigns.

The short answer is Kaz Hirai. You can check his interviews from the 90's. He was very keen on securing as much software support as possible. He recognized it being key to winning the console wars. Without software, nothing else mattered. So they adopted an unpredecented policy of third-party relations. It didn't take long for third-parties to ditch Nintendo in favor of greener pastures. The only reason I even own one is because I play my dudebro games on it like CoD and AC since they feel wrong being on a Sony system, but that's just me.

You act like it matters but it doesn't. I mean it does to a certain extent. But the points you mentioned affect only niche audiences. The masses are so used to PS4 by now, that it has become their go to console of choice for literally every game these days. PlayStation as a brand is the strongest in modern gaming (stronger even than during PS2 and PS3 days). Basically there's PlayStation and not much else at this point. Nintendo and Xbox are serving a niche market. Sony has 70% market share.
