IMO Banjo and Kazooie would have the advantage in a BK vs Steve matchup. Steve would obviously have a block placing mechanic which is a pain in the ass keepaway tool, but Kazooie has a fuckload of eggs that would probably break the blocks pretty handedly, and a better air game.

I wanted Threeie and Banjo in Smash in equal quantities as a kid and I have more faith in Sakurai adapting the duo to HD and stuffing their representation with fanservice than I do Threeie being good. A great Threeie is kind of the end-all-be-all of my childhood hopes and dreams but Banjo in Smash was right there with it. And given that now Banjo in Smash has a much better chance of going well than a Threeie, I find myself wanting the Smash inclusion more.
And I definitely wouldn't prefer a simple remake over Smash, I would be excited for it but it's just a new coat of paint on existing content.

Given the first 3 examples, it's pretty obvious that there will be a remaster of Kazooie/Tooie and likely for Banjo in Smash but I won't be surprised if he doesn't happen. Ill have put thousands of hours into Ultimate by the time of the next Smash game, I already have 300 on my own Switch and 450 hours playing at a friends, and if Banjo is in, most of that time we'll be spent playing him from that point forward, doesn't matter if he's little mac tier, he'll be my main. Even if Threeie is good (it wouldn't be) that's significantly less hours of enjoyment involving my favorite video game characters than B-K in Smash offers me.
Run the numbers any way you want, if you're a Banjo fan and a Smash fan you get way more out of a Smash inclusion than you do a new game of unknown quality or some dinky remake. And on top of that, his Smash inclusion is a great deal more likely to be good than a Threeie.

A couple things differentiate the two:
>Crash wasn't developed by any of Sony's worldwide studios
>Sony did not own the IP for Crash Bandicoot at the time of the N-Sane Trilogy's release. All involvement Sony had with the N-Sane trilogy was potential incipient talks that spurred the project on, and possibly negotiated the timed exclusivity/marketing contracts
Whereas a potential Banjo game, which by all means would exist as what we can only assume would be "fully fledged" AAA title, to compare to other Xbox exclusives, would most likely be developed by some studio Microsoft owns, or an independent third party, which wouldn't change the fact that the IP is in Microsofts hands.
The various switch titles that Microsoft have released follow a common trend, small, easy-to-run, usually created in essence by an independent studio, and have come out far after their respective xbox/pc releases. Basically, unless Nintendo online becomes xbox live, I don't see any AAA Banjo game releasing simultaneously, or even at all on the Switch.
Rare replay is a possibility though.

I highly doubt that Banjo-Redooie or Banjo-Threeie would be much more intensive than the Crash remake that runs fine on Switch.
You don't need AAA budgets or fidelity to make or sell a 3D platformer.

Ya know Banjo Kazooie finding his way back to the Nintendo Switch in either form of him in Smash, A new Banjo Game or a Rare Replay port would really be fulfilling for Banjo Kazooie as characters and a brand. And it would make me extremely happy if things went either way. It would be an absolute win for most Banjo Kazooie fans if either of these outcomes come to fruition.
