Does the snes version do the same stuff as the gbc? It has a translation patch that's arguably better than the original gbc release and it looks prettier so I'd go with that one. I've heard terrible things about every other port of 3

Sure if you want to talk random wacky spinoffs then maybe you might have a case.
But literally every main numbered Dragon Quest besides the MMO, and many spinoffs have been localized into English.
That's why we constantly refer to Erdrick by their English title.
Besides, just picking recent flavor-of-the-month characters like Joker and not adding defined legacy characters whose franchises have had a rich history across decades and multiple generations would leave a sour taste on the fighter packs.

Most iconic RPG character the world has seen, designed by Akira Toriyama himself, a guaranteed success in Nihon (I want the gaem to succeed because the Belmonts and K Rool are in).
