There are ropes, umbilical cords and ladders everywhere, half the gameplay is about finding ways across gaps. There's a big speech about 'bringing everyone together to survive'. The player character's last name is BRIDGES.

I'm excited for it, but I'm tired of all the people saying it looks confusing. It puts visual metaphor ahead of visual realism, it's pretty clear what it's about; as for the minutae of the plot, no shit they're not being open from minute one. God forbid someone would actually preserve some mystery on an unreleased project.

This is like Inception. The film was incredibly straightforward, but because it included some interesting and unconventional visuals, everyone pretended that it was confusing/difficult to understand.

The entire world of Death Stranding is unique. the story is unique, design, everything we have seen. the climbing mechanics and travelling seem to be unique. we haven't actually seen much gameplay and the combat we saw seemed to just be MGSVesque CQC. you do realize no game is just it's combat mechanics right.

It'll be part of the adventure game genre, which is decades old, and has always been story-driven and graphics-driven in order to carry the player into environmental puzzles and roleplaying-based challenges

So how can you be so sure it'll invent a new genre? what is it that future developers will copy? because so far, in terms of gameplay it's a mix of MGSV/Uncharted with it's own gimmicks. The only unique things I've seen is the art direction and story, and I don't think that can be labeled as a new genre.

That makes Death Stranding even worse. The more realistic a fighting system, the worse the game. ie. Red Dead Redemption2's melee and gun combat is literal dogshit. Death Stranding is gonna have even worse combat than fucking bamham and goddamn uncharted, holy fuck.

For responsive controls. It's a shooter first, melee is just meant to supplement the shooting, for use in easy kills as a reward for correctly rushing the enemy. It's only possible to melee KO them all in sequence there because nowhere else in the game are so many easy enemies so close together and so distracted.
Also the animations still look pretty weighty to me, like when he bonks the guys head off the wall at 9 seconds

That all sounds like action-adventure to me, which has been a thing for decades. The first Resident Evil was described as action-adventure, because the game was part action (reflex-based timed movements) and part adventure (environment-based puzzles and key-finding exploration)

The wall KO is a good animation, I'll admit, but the jump attacks are basically horizontal motion.

It might play well, of course, I haven't played the Uncharted games, but the animation on the jump attack does look fairly poor.

My point wasn't that Uncharted is a bad game though, I understand that it's meant to emulate an Indiana Jones-esque action film in visual style. My point was that it doesn't seem like Death Stranding is in this style at all beyond 'realism', i.e. not being a hack-and-slash action game.

This video was posted , but I'm not sure it applies here - the punching DOES seem to require facing the enemy, and without range hopping. The guy saying it's bullshit because it doesn't have juggling is likely baiting - action games don't need to be in that style to be well done. I'm saying this as someone for whom DMC1 and DMC3 are both among my favourites of all time.

NGB barely constitutes as having exploration, but besides that, not every game needs to be split down the middle. It can be 3/4 adventure 1/4 action. Action doesn't need to be complex to be stimulating. That just means you prefer action games to adventure games.
