There is a good interview with a female soldier who states the varied reasons why it's a terrible idea.

One is that women simply aren't capable of the feats of strength and endurance required of the infantry. Examples were extended runs with full kit and climbing a 6ft wall with full kit.

Second was that as a society we simply wouldn't treat wounded/captured female soldiers the same as we would men. As soon as fellow soldiers start getting raped there are going to be some war crimes happening.
