Gamestop stock hits lowest point in 14 YEARS

The stock has lost more than 50% of it's value in just 4 months and is expected to drop further tomorrow when they release their Q1 earnings report.

Lol good, maybe the motherfuckers should've tried donating some shit and writing it off on their taxes instead of smashing 1000$ of classic CD and DVD games and cutting the cord of controllers because we were taking them out of their dumpsters too much

did they really just destroy any excess inventory of the golden era?? or are you just shitposting?
actually curious

No they started destroying a bunch of shit because they used to throw it away then people would dumpster dive (they have cool shit like displays too, their dumpsters are pretty clean also) then sell it back to game stop

wtf
Why throw it away if it's something you buy from customers??
what a retarded business model, I'm glad I barely ever shop there anymore, mostly order physical games offline, or just hit up walmart if it's a mainstream game

They threw alot of it away during when they started getting rid of OG Xbox and PS2 games, not even gonna bring up how many DS game cases they destroyed, all for the sake of keeping those now Funko Pop filled shelves ready for new shit

that's exactly what I meant by golden era (SNES-Gamecube) in my first post, why the fuck would you even throw it away, I agree with your first point about donating it, fuck at least something.
I'm a physical collector and that is very rage inducing

youtu.be/qeXoOPcYHqo

>I'm a physical collector
Get a load of this faggot

I used to get quite a bit from their dumpster.
That's how I got Phantasy Star Online Ep. I & II Plus.

might start doing that at my local gamestop now neat

Fuck 'Em

Is now the time to buy stock in gamestop? It's too big to fail so it's gonna go back up, right?

>I'm just gonna buy all my stuff on amazon now
for real, FUCK gamestop. I didn't realize how much of pieces of shit they were. I should've known after their rip-off trade-in's that they'd be doing shit like this.
Before I was a bit sad they were falling off (mostly nostalgia) but now I can't wait for these greedy fucks to die...
with the hopes something better and wholesome replaces it..

yes. buy all the stock

angry because I still have a SNES with 40 classic games? half of which were my original library as a kid?
Or because I kept my ps2 library and didn't shell out 40 dollars for a remake of onimusha or ffX?

They only destroy games that don’t work already.

maybe if they actually sold video games their stocks would be higher

All GameStop needs to do is make a way to stream games for a very cheap prices but the boat has already shipped

How is GameStop even in business still? Seriously who shops there?

dude high quality disc cleaning machines exist and they work miracles. Local gaming store where I live has one and it's free to use for members(20 dollars a year iirc), and 4 bucks a pop for nonmembers.
It fixed my double dash disc and my super mario sunshine disc, so it works on gamecube discs as well.

I work there on sundays, it's all single parents and literal retards.

rednecks and zoomers

I bought sekiro there because it was on the way home from work..that's the only game I've bought there since like 2016

No way, but more importantly why do they cut the cords, surely they wouldn't buy a broken controller?

>onimusha
kek, I remember when Onimusha 3 was fairly new and GameStop through out an unopened copy for PC. They used to not deliberately destroy as much as possible, although that might just be a location thing. What they usually did is put on stickers that either say "Field Destroy" or "$0.01". The one cent games are never put on the shelf.

Found a new copy of picross 3d for 10 bucks, while everywhere else it cost at least 20. It's also been the first and last thing I'v ever bought in gamestop.

>Im going to post this video of a guy that got proven wrong of his half-knowledge in the comment section already

I just don't get why they aren't a game store anymore. They're now a "geek" store. Clothes, hats, houseware (mugs, toys, etc), collectibles and more. Why? It's such a fucking waste of money. You know how many times I've ever seen a person buy any of that shit in store? Literally never once. Not ever. Not even an inkling of someone buying it or even thinking about it.

Who the fuck goes into GS and thinks "I'm gonna buy a mug"? No one, ever. It's so dumb. They should close down every store for like a week or two and restructure the entire company back to just being games. Games, systems, gaming gear (as in, controllers, etc), preorders and mini-buys like gift cards or online purchase cards. Wow, it's almost like they'd save a fucking quintillion gorillion dollars and it only took me 2 minutes to think up and type it all down. These company people are such retards, I just don't get it.

I work at a Gamestop and even I can agree if we didn’t have to beat our customers to all hell with 1000 questions then maybe more people would actually want to come in.

I believe what I see, not what the filth of the internet (youtube comments) tells me
He's literally posting hard evidence and youre believing the people who are butthurt that daddy gamestop did them dirty.
>but they couldn't do anything wrong I loved that place as a kid!!

>go into gamestop to buy a game
>would you like to join our power up rewards, you get free stuff everytime you shop with us
>no
>would you like to pre-order a new and upcoming game? I have the list right here if you want to take a look at it
>no
>do you want to sign up for our credit card? You get money back on every purchase
>no
>do you want to buy scratch protection on this 3ds cartridge?
>no
It's fucking annoying to shop there when there are so many alternatives.
>shop online at amazon
>click buy now
>choose payment method
>choose free 2 day shipping
>go back to watching milfs getting fucked by the fat greasy plumber

INVEST
NOW
INVEST
NOW
INVEST
NOW

Physical collection is cringe as fuck. Also a total waste of space in your house.

>Investing in dips
Invest when it's stable

I can find plenty of videos, that was just the first one. I myself have picked several broken in half disks and cut controllers

yeah but that's not a normie opinion, even some girls have been impressed or nostalgic when I blow the dust off certain systems (keep most in my closet and break them out as needed)

They probably weren't selling enough games and pivoted. They're circling the drain even if they go "back to basics", don't be delusional.

>This
I haven't been there in like 2 years but I always tried to explain to the guys that I don't preorder games because I want the devs and publishers to earn my money.

No. The stock is absolutely going to take another hit tomorrow after they release the Q1 financials. They've already hinted the results are below their original projections below expectations.

My guess is that Q2 will be the same and it will take another hit. If I was going to invest money in Gamestop, it would be after the Q2 (or Q3 if there are no big releases in June-August) earning report. I'd hold onto the stock until the bump they get from the PS5/Xbox Two hardware release and then get the hell out of there. The new generation of consoles is the last rise they are ever going to see.

>Physical collection is based as fuck
Fixed.

Markup on games is like 2%, markup on the shitty mugs is like 3000%. Some turd buying a pokemon jumper for his retard kid makes more money for the store than selling 20 games. They need to sell that shit to stay alive, cos who buys from physical stores anymore

I went to game to buy a used 3DS the other day, and they guy was trying to talk me into buying a switch even after saying I already had one. I am literally giving you money nigga, no I don't want a funko pop

Looks like it's time to buy.

It's cool but I have low opinions of the future when people are gonna try and show off their "near complete" PS4 collection and I'm gonna be like "why you keep all this garbage around here"

You're probably right, but it just doesn't make sense. "We aren't making enough money on games, we should double down and buy millions and millions worth of product like funko pops and tshirts and mugs no one will ever buy"; there is no way they sell enough of that shit per week/month to make a profit. Like I said, I've never seen a single person, not even dumb soccer moms, buy that stuff. Never in store, never in passing, and I've never heard of anyone doing it either since they'd probably just do it online anyway from Amazon or somewhere else.

They should have weathered the storm of their dipping profits when it was just gaming stuff. They should have been smarter about what they did instead of panicing like retards and trying to hoist everyone into buying dumb worthless shit like mugs and badgering every single customer with 20 questions every time they want to buy a single game or preorder.

Hopefully GS dies a horrible death and no more game stores come up in their place; I'd happily buy from Best Buy, Walmart, Target, or Amazon instead of GS ever again.

>How is GameStop even in business stil

Here in Puerto Rico they closed all of their stores. Went out of business. We have local stores that sells games way cheaper than GameStop

>I believe something one person tells me but not something that another person tells me
High IQ logic here. The funniest part is how you're going to side with some stupid dumpster diver, with some strangely inflated sense of self worth, who was just ass mad that he couldn't get free games over actual employees of the establishment in question. God damn.

I do. I buy Funko figures. card games, mugs, all that stuff.

With how much they charge for resold games, they deserve it.

Why just buy some SHFiguarts if you wanna have dolls around the house. They even make star wars ones

Attached: Screenshot_20190601-093415_eBay.jpg (719x944, 502K)

Didn't they leave because of something related to taxes?

You absolute fucking retard don't realize that selling only physical video games does not make the company money?

They make 100% profit after you subtract the 15$ they took the game from you with. Used games are how gamestop made their money that's why they always pushed them

For any of those wondering. Gamestop makes 5% on new games and 50% on used. So games are still basically making the least amount of money for the company

Why was it so high in 2008?

I go to see if I can find any really cheap used games. Got Madworld for 3 bucks not long ago.

Unlike most industries, entertainment usually does better in a recession/when a lot of people lose their jobs, because they suddenly have more time of their hands.

The PS3/360/Wii gen was just starting, and it was when the whole retro collecting thing started to take off

Wii was still popular and the PS3/Xbox 360 were at a price point that normies who shop at Gamestop were starting to pick them up.

if you're the smartest man on earth, explain to me what's actually going on here and why it makes gamestop not a piece of shit.

I used to manage a GameStop, the shit we'd throw away was either stuff that was totally destroyed or that we didn't take and the clients just dumped in our store. The reason we cut cords and shit was to BTFO dumpster diving faggots who would hold up the line while illegally recording in the store to argue with me about why I can't take this chink unlicensed Xbox controller that I destroyed with a mallet.

We never threw away anything that we actually bought from customers.

>All those comfy independent/small chain game stores Gamestop Unicroned in their prime

Attached: wolvie.jpg (600x539, 47K)

The only non-gamestop store in my area is an unorganized mess and the asshole owner doesn't price anything, instead he checks ebay prices when you checkout.

Attached: 00C0C_1rpmzGocaqf_1200x900.jpg (1200x900, 172K)

I just assumed anything really worth keeping the guy who smashes would keep

>worked at GameStop
>posts on Yea Forums
So what exactly makes you think I want anything to do with video games

I hate videogames too, I come here to bully the people who make wojacks

Meh, GaemStahp should die, but this is being oversimplified. The selection they used to have in 2005-07 when I was a teen included Gundam & SD Gundam model kits that were around $4-$10 each. This new shit doesn't appeal to most anyone, let alone the average kid/teen demographic who is usually in the store. Paying $50-$100 for some statue of a character is retarded.

They should've gone with that subscription service thing before the bitched out.

But seriously, these "classic relics from the golden era" are always in disgusting condition and usually broken anyway. Personally, if I ever saw something that we couldn't take that was of actual value I'd let them know, but there was never anything because it was always trash. Which is why it went in the trash.

So you think the world is flat, theres never been someone on the moon and also god exists?

Oh okay

This actually

People think my collection is cool, and they always want to play "____ game(s) they played as a kid"

It's 2018+1, not 1986, this shit is considered cool now

>Rhino Video Games
it was a simpler time

Attached: 1388157179575.jpg (300x360, 35K)

>was thinking about trading in games to get something i wanted
>doing all the math on what to trade in to hit that $60 without losing too much
>remember i can just pirate games on my pc
fuck gamestop

>waiting for pizza with friends
>wander off to next door gamestop out of boredom
>need a new or even used DS4, maybe I'll see something
>new controller is almost 80 bucks and the used is the same price of a brand new one literally anywhere else

I really hope that place dies.

>literally only retail store with a proper vidya inventory in my location is gamestop
I sure hope death of gamestop revives the local retailer business scene

>This much happier world is dead
Hate to sound like that guy the recession killed people's ability to have a good time

Buy the dip

if it's used and then a customer buys it, then returns it stating it doesn't work, usually it gets destroyed. no use putting it back on the shelf.

>GameStop
>they stopped selling games
>the games stopped
pottery. is gamestop into hosting Magic The Gathering/Yugioh and shit now or will they never do that?

that's out of gamestops reach, only megacorps like google/amazon/microsoft can pull it off

go to gamestop i say no to all these, check credit card history and the clerk added it anyway.

Anything I can do besides going to gamestop and complaining

No because the type of people (me) go to actual small magic/comic stores for the tourneys and gamestop has too much bad blood amongst nerds now it would've been a good idea a few years ago tho

also the 360 had so many games, it was like another ps2.

Call corporate and complain.

People go to genuine nerd shops for card tournaments, not hipster geekchic places that sell funco pops.

>instead he checks ebay prices when you check out
then why would you not just buy it on ebay? That kind of shit makes me pretty mad. He's paying more in overhead than he would be in ebay fees/shipping too, I'm sure

Attached: 1545523143064.jpg (590x456, 51K)

whats stopping them from buying out indie nerd shops just like they bought out EB Games + Rhino and making that their new market?

Cabron, no seas embustero. No vengas a regar embustes.

Their approaching bankruptcy

No halban espanol

Any chance we can get some good shit when the inevitable mass-closing happens? Or will they just sell all their stock that isn’t 2nd-hand to other retailers.

quite /biz/ shouldn't you be shouting about LINK somewhere else.

I'm not defending gamestop, i don't even go there anymore, but that video is retarded. People have even talked to you about why it's done.
