Actually looks soulless.

Quake II is shit tho

>Quake II RTX is fully ray-traced and includes the 3 levels from the original shareware distribution.

>only works on RTX cards

That still looks worse than I remember Quake looking. I absolutely fucking hate the lighting in that pic.

Will the handle on the hyperblaster still be the other way around compared to the on-map and in-hand model?

Really pushing games forward there Nvidia.

Still no raytraced Doom

>RTX
>only works on RTX cards
wtf

>Turn the brown and orange into even more soulless UE4 indie shit

So now it looks like those shitty Russian Doom mods

Good job Nvidia

It should work on any Pascal card at single digit FPS.

Also the entire game is RTX'd, you need the original full game files to play the whole thing.

Pretty sure they enabled ray tracing on the 10 series as well.

Who cares, all old games are gonna get RTX support soon.

>complaining about tech demos
This entire board is filled with literally pubescent retards.

Minimum NVIDIA RTX 2060 or higher

Looks like sfm/source

>showing off amazing technological advancements on a 20 something year old game

Quake 2 was never shareware. It had a demo.

Do i need an RTX card for this?

>20 something year old game now looks like a modern one

Might as well. The blueprint is already there and it's got a name that's guaranteed to at least get a fair amount of eyes on the project.

Kinda like the SSG design. Blue skies tho, really? Are we still on Stroggos?

finally a game for my RTX 2080 Ti

Why not? The source code for Quake II and other early id games are free for anyone to use, which makes them popular targets for mods and research projects like this. Additionally, people enjoy seeing older games getting graphical enhancements like this. I remember a couple years before RTX existed there was another path tracing mod for Quake II that got a fair amount of publicity. Nvidia is just capitalising on this to advertise their new hardware.

>t. NVIDIA marketing department employee

so what is wrong with it?

Doom 3 would have been a better choice, especially since you've got the flashlight and could really show off the GI with it.

ID

looks like low effort indie shovelware

will somebody add some fucking muzzleflashes

Oh boy. I'm so mad I didn't buy RTX card. Now I can't play Quake 2 which was below average fps game even back in the day it was released.

Doom 3 isn't opne source. There is a reason the game also has Vulkan etc

quake 2 always looked soulless, that's one of the biggest issues with it.

do RTX on Quake 1 and we can talk.

github.com/id-Software/DOOM-3
It's been open source for eight years.

control is low-key the most impressive RTX title so far.

I agree but it's also probably a lot more complex codebase.

if they enabled it on the 10 series and the 1080 ti is better than the 2060 would that mean it's past the minimum requirements or is the 10 series simply inefficient at RTX?

The 2060 outperforms the 1080 when it comes to ray tracing.

Give it two weeks. Somebody will crack the game to work on AMD and 10X0 cards and then we will all see how gimicky raytracing is and that you dont need to buy new cards for that feature.

Its most likely just marketing tactic trying to sell rebranded 10 cards for 700$.

Why quake 2 and not 1?

>Doom 3 isn't opne source
lol wut.

Why is it so fucking bright?

Probably because Quake II's engine code is far cleaner.

>Quake 2
LOL
Fuck off NVIDIA/Bethesda you Doom/HL/Q2/Unreal retards

original Quake is garbage

aged like shit

There is already ray trace program for all GPUs except its locked behind a fucking patreon paywall.

They choose a game as old as Quake 2 because that engine is modular and is way more easier to modify and add features like raytracing and pathtracing. And the low ammount of polygons helps to be stable and fast with this kind of rendering
Also, I bet that Doom 3 would look completely awfull since it heavily relies on bump mapping and that sort of shit, make it hard and tedious to adapt every texture to be used with raytracing

This
And maybe that Quake 1 is way too dark to have proper effects. We only would have light sources from torches and lava
