>tfw ywn rent a game and try to finish it before the late fee again
Tfw ywn rent a game and try to finish it before the late fee again
Don't care, I already experienced it before all these new faggots
OPPA GAMER STYLE
>tfw couldn't even afford to rent games
>had to play the few games over and over on the old console my cousin gifted to me
It was a simpler time, and not so bad. Now I can play pretty much any game I want, but I don't want to play any.
I never liked renting games, I didn't want to give them back
good riddance
>rent a game
>cartridge has grime all over it
>tfw had a mod chip in my OG Xbox that ripped ISO images of games I got from Blockbuster and put them on an internal HD
>walk into blockbuster/jumbo video
>place absolutely reeks of popcorn
>game demo stations on hand
This culture of digital only games is absolute horseshit, you used to be able to rent out a Genesis or PS1 with 1-2 games included
based
>go to blockbuster
>place absolutely reeks of popcorn
>they dont and never have sold popcorn in any form
magical
couldn't afford 3 dollars? Old games were only 2 dollars.
i miss blockbuster bros
YOUR PARENTS TAKE YOU TO BLOCKBUSTER
1 GAME 1 VIDEO AND 1 SNACK
WHAT GET?
Fucking false memories, I distinctly remember there being a popcorn machine, maybe it was just jumbo video
>Anything new that I haven't seen on the shelves before constantly
>An Austin Powers movie or some new animated film usually
>Pizza from the Pizza Hut across the road because BB snacks were overpriced
>tfw found some of my favorite games through renting at blockbuster as a kid
Sounds gay but I miss it
I miss my old job at a video store.
Having repeat customers meant you got to know people.
Get free movies.
Got to use the disc cleaning machine to clean up second hand games I bought.
Had a crane game machine that wasn't total unfair.
Everything was just so casual and cruisy...
>Hear about amazing game through word of mouth
>friday night going to blockbuster
>beyond hype to rent game
>ready to spend all weekend playing
>get home and load game up
>its trash
ahh yes renting games was awesome
>local mom n pop video store going out of business
>they sell their games N64 5$ each
>saved 20$ from my birthday
>leaving the store with 4 games
I'll miss those simpler times
>rent game
>steal the manual
>rent game
>delete save file before returning it so the next guy can't leverage my progress
my local certainly never had one
I never got the opportunity to rent from a blockbuster. I had Hastings
>Want to rent one of the brand new games they got in
>Can only rent for 2 days for 5 dollars
>Mom won't let me get it so I have to go with one of the old shelfwarmer games that you can rent for 7 days for 2 dollars
Never used blockbusters, but I did always get all my games from the library. I distinctly remember Jack and dax being incredibly popular. You were really lucky if you managed to get a hold of it. When I finally did I continued to check it out under my name for around 3 months so no one else could have it.
>work at blockbuster
>mom brings in a stack of movies and games 3 hours past 12:00
>"That'll be $46 in late fees"
>that one goth clerk who was super cool and let me rent gory cult classics despite me being blatantly underage
I had such a huge crush on her, Yea Forums
>My old Blockbuster was gutted and turned into a Goodwill
Blockcucks was wank, CHOICES was the best rental in UK, I took many games on rental and never even took them back or paid, they didn't even call the cops and I even got away with going in and asking to rent more games when I hadn't brought in the other ones and they asked me everytime I went back for another to make sure I brought the games this time and never did.... Ashame it died, obviously my fault but was too good, got serious Sam xbox from there, 1st ever stolen rental
Based UK bro, it was like this over in South y but carpets were 1000000 years old to add to the effect of the smell and visual appeal
I feel bad for anons that didn't have cool parents who would min-max and stop at the grocery store for a snack and a drink instead of getting overpriced stuff at Blockbuster.
It scares me to think if I had never taken a chance on FF8. That game lead to events that lead me to who I am today. A fan made music video for FF8 lead me to liking a certain band, eventually going to their concerts, meeting my third girlfriend because of these concerts, she getting me my current job and eventually moving up to my current position where I met the love of my life.
All that because the romance part as a kid allured me enough to take a chance. Thank you for your part, blockbuster.
Also fun fact : Was bought by blockbuster before blockbuster died
>Movie: Usually Sailor Moon or Speed Racer
>Game: Whatever I've been nagging them to get at the time
>Snack: Baby Bottle Pops
Bring me back
>rent MGS1
>need to look for a hint on the game's case
>this blockbuster didn't put custom infomation on their case
CONSOLE DRM
>kept game to finish it later
>tfw forgot about it and can actually buy the game with the fees I owe
>grab game
>grab movie
>grab candy and one of those microwave popcorn buckets
oh yea, friday night with the bois.
>rent game we already have just to see how far they got
>older brother gets super fucking mad every time
I mean rightfully so but.. I just wanted to see how far they've gotten in oot.
still have about 3 nintendo 64 games that I rented from blockbuster but my parents never brought me back to return them so I have them still
I haven't been gunned down yet so I guess that's a good sign
Mine turned into a fucking planet fitness
>rent game
>wait for company to go out of business
>own game
I thought after awhile Blockbuster just bills you the price of the game and you own it now.
You spent money just to indirectly experience "What dungeons did you beat?" And wasted the chance to try new games. I hope your brother deleted your saves.
Why even be nostalgic for renting? You can buy whole AAA games for the price of a 2 day rental now. You can pay the same amount to rent hundreds of games on the humble trove and origin access now.
>get to the last mission of star fox assault
>pause, leave gamecube on, go to school
>get home
>disc removed, mom returned it
>game still paused asking to put the disc back in
That's what we used to do at my old store. Way more expensive than just buying it.
That said, there was this one copy of Tim Allen's The Shaggy Dog someone rented out, and some how it wen't under the radar. Eventually when they guy returned it after moving back from another country, it was over $1000 late. We didn't make him pay that though, just like, $60.
does anybody actually use gamefly
>that smell of cheap popcorn mixed with carpet cleaning chemicals
>renting now one of your favorite games and never being able to buy it cause lower middle class
>20 something goth cashier lady kept giving me a stink eye even because i was a stupid kid who just wanted vidya
>mom renting me a game and buying me a shonen jump and a pack of yugioh cards at the comic store across the street cause i was bullied so hard i came home crying for the 3rd time that week
>they bully me the next day for reading shonen jump
i don't wanna remember anymore
>Resident Evil 2
>ill-advised Manga Entertainment/ADV schlock
>a big blue slurpee
>You will never experience not a hardship ever again
Good? Do you miss walking two kilometers to go fetch a pail of water too?
Why do we gotta get bullied for liking cool shit?
Cause it ain't sports.
I guess technically you could charge him that but as a rental service of inexpensive items you have to cut your losses and replace it and charge the renter the cost to replace plus a fee so you don't make a news story of it. $1000? Did you not plan for someone never returning an item and add a clause for being over a month late?
>never use outdated service
>service isn't a thing anymore
>WOOOOW WHO KILLED SERVICE? The next generation? The jews???
One tenth or even less of you kept going to this crap while it was failing.
they found any ammunition they could use to bully me it was the worst 8 years of my life i now have ptsd from it because it was almost everyday
No one questioned why it got killed
rental didn't die with blockbuster, a lot of poorfags still rent games from redbox. people are just specifically nostalgic for video stores of that era.
zoom zoom
I bet you're fun at parties.
No, it was a case of one guy's details being improperly entered into system, therefore his account never came up when it came to chasing late movies.
No point in charging him the full amount. No way we'd ever get that much. Plus, it's better to have good customer relations as to keep people coming back.
>rent a game
>Another family member would return it
>Blockbuster would never check the boxes
>On a good day I got to swap a bad game with a good one.
>On a bad day my game got swapped as I put my game in the rental box since n64 games came.in cardboard. I would have to call the store or go there with my dad and find it. They would make me after I told them.
Kinda hated more than videogames after all that. Fuck Rental stores.
>mfw when I still owe my local rental shop 5 bucks for renting mk 3
Games dont like to be finished today and it's really hurting the medium. Your game better be damn good to justify a runtime over 10 hours (thats front to back raw content obviously it'll take longer for the player).
Yeah I also played Grand Theft Auto 3.
they had shitty game selections compared to local haunts
Get games from your library. You can keep it for a month for like $10 in late fees.
Of course you can still rent games
>go to local gamestop
>buy used game
>play it for a week
>return it for a full refund
It's funny watching them get an attitude as they catch on that you're never actually paying for anything, but they also can't stop you since it's the companies policy
