Rarely have I felt they were trying to convince me they were doing much more than getting me to set pieces. You can almost feel the developers excitedly tugging on your arm saying, "ooh ooh, check this out! We rigged this scene where the Eiffel tower crumbles, took us two weeks to shoot! Oh, Watch this scene! A nuke went off right in your face!" It's endearing to me and it's easy to meet a game halfway if you feel it's being honest. I can't recall feeling they wanted me to think about any particularly deep scenes.

Call of Duty's tone has always been really disingenuous honestly. Getting quotes about the valor of war after dying a pointless death to infinitely respawning enemies always felt totally undeserved.
I suppose I'll have to disagree, the flavor quotes I've never felt were meant to have much weight in the almost cartoony context,(except the far earier cods, but I think we're both discussing modern warfare and beyond) just be interesting/memorable. Not to sound like a nerd, but it reminds me of how a stereotypical frat boy would put them in sometimes. In regards to that scene, it was pretty brief, like most of their other moments set aside for characterization (remember the christmas scene in BO2?) I see what you're saying, but I really feel the intent isn't to moralize, and doesn't come from a dishonest place like say, spec ops the line.
