What is Larian's stance on mods? It would be great if it was moddable

For those unfamiliar with 5E, it's basically a streamlined/simplified 3.5E with a lot of cut elements for broader casual appeal.
Shit ton of classes, races and feats got cut.
They also cut Epic classes and Prestige classes, meaning there's no reason to roll one class past level 20 (cause no Epic bonuses) and Prestiges classes got basically replaced with specializations (basically similar to 2E kits).
Math is streamlined for the better if you're a PnP player because a lot of pointless shit got axed or just rolled into one.
No more negative health, 0 is lowest your HP can go and you roll 3 separate checks to see if you die or live.
Instead of having guaranteed Stats and Feats both, now both effectively use the same points.
So you can sacrifice Stats for more Feats.
They removed Spell Hightening but gave all spells universal ability to be cast at higher level, basically for example imagine casting a Level 1 spell as a Level 3 spell, instead of rolling a single 1d8 for example, you roll an additional d8 for each level so in this case you roll 3d8.
Also classes are no longer tied to alignment so you can do dumb shit like Chaotic Evil Paladin.

That's basically all the major differences from 3.5E

Oh and you pick a character background which influences your stats/skills on character creation, it's a holdover from 4E.
Also they made buffs require Concentration meaning you can't just prebuff with six gorillion buffs before battle and you're basically restricted to one buff maintained by a select character with Concentration.
Numbers got crunched so forget about ever seeing an item that is more than +3 for example.
The core mechanic of rolling D20 to beat DC from 3.5E didn't change by the way.

All in all, 5E just feels like a "streamlined" (aka dumbed down) mod of 3.5E

I did it without blowing out the candles so I had to leave lohse somewhere else in the city. I then set the entire mansion on fire and attacked from range while retreating towards the front door. Then I lured Malady into joining the fight and finished off everyone else and then Adrammalich. I don't really know if you'd count that as "legit" but it's how I did it.

I would have tried it without the candles but I was trying to do a no-guide, all-quests run for my first playthrough, so it ended up being a piss easy fight.

Honestly though I'm more disappointed that if you actually want to be efficient in the game, pure levels are the strongest buff you can have, and thus just killing every NPC in the game is both the most valuable and most profitable way to end up powering through content.

Though to be fair by the time you're fighting The Doctor, you're done with the game anyway so what the fuck does it matter.

There is literally zero reason to believe that Larian would be making a Baldur's Gate 3 instead of a new Divinity game.

Yeah most people seem to agree that it went to shit after Act 2. I don't necessarily disagree, because that's also basically when I lost the plot completely. Who the fuck were the bad guys? Were the Seekers bad? Were the Paladins bad? Was Lucian bad? The game really wanted me to flip and side with Dallis after she tried to kill me multiple times, and by the end of the game the Paladins are led by a fucking death-cultists, and the Seekers are literal Nazis, so what the fuck is the point?

Also the whole plot about the Voidwoken being whatever they are really fell flat and didn't fucking matter because you can't drop some bullshit about "Oh it's really their world we took it from them" when THEY'RE FUCKING MONSTERS and the game doesn't actually provide an option to be like "Yeah maybe they have a point I guess.", they're still just treated like generic evil void monsters by the ending anyway, so why does the game expect me to care about their backstory?

MToF clashes with SCAG and WGtE and Dragon Heist/Mad Mage clashes with established 5E canon - somehow wotC forgot about Eilistraee and the rebuilt Promenade and can't decide which race Laeral Silverhand is.

She's still good in a full party. That mage spell that lets you use multiple low spells at the same time works with cleric spells too. You can have her cast instant Bless/Chant/Prayer/Recitation(though I think that spell allowed only 3 at same time, I don't remember it's been a while) in combat for huge bonuses to you and penalties to enemies

All the good buff spells are in the 3-5 level range. They are also not greatly influenced by actual caster level (some duration, but that's mostly superflous). As a buffer, it's hard to compete with Aerie's sheer number of buffs per day.

My biggest complain about lategame casters is actually that their spell selection is sort of shitty compared to what they get in the midlevels.

I never read the second one but doesn't Jaheira die and get resurrected as well? I can't remember much of it except the Abdel main character was incredibly obnoxious and un-relatable, and they also used that name as the Charname in the pre-made expansion party in BG1 TotSC.

Where do we even start. It's pretty much "Highlander" in Faerun.
There was an evil, asshole god named Bhaal , Lord of Murder that predicted his own death during the megaevent called Time of Troubles. So he fucked a shitlot of women in order to create an army of children that would serve as a storage for his god powers. You are one of those kids and you have been destined to bring back Bhaal to life. And nobody wants that, because Bhaal was an asshole. Along the way you meet your "brothers and sisters" who either want to take over the world as new Lord of Murder or are killing other weaker "bhaalspawn". Entirety of BG 1 was a 4D chess powerplay of one of the more powerful Bhaalspawn named Sarevok. He wanted to become a new God of Murder and in order to do that he plunged the Sword Coast into a conflict with its neighbour Amn. Lord of Murder is happy when people die for no reason and he wanted to prove himself. BG 2 revolves around elven mage Irenicus that wants to steal your god powers in order to buff himself to take of elven pantheon. Because reasons. And ToB is pretty much, you murdering what's left of the bhaalspawn in order to either become a new Lord of Murder or seal his essence away in hopes he never returns. That's the quickest gist there is.

If it is baldur's gate 3 i'm hoping for deeper character customization like hairs and the like

Every spellcaster works that way because of cantrips. That's actually one change I like. Something that bothered me was that I never felt like a mage early on in BG. You had 2-3 spells that you burned through in first encounter and then you were stuck with sling/crossbow until you rest again.
Thanks to cantrips you can cast level 0 spells at will now. So you can still throw some wimpy 1d6 firebolts or frost rays at enemies all day, every day.

There is no good company to make a sequel because the game doesn't need a sequel. The story closed perfectly (even without ToB) and it's based on a lore bigger than the game. I loved the small tidbits in Viconia romance that show how much she actually cares about you.
Her first conversation with Sarevok in ToB is pretty much her threatening him with murder if he ever harms CHARNAME. Basically the player (if he was paying attention) knew more about the plot than any of the NPC faction save for Dallis.
THis meant that all NPC factions seem like complete re tards to you, thats why you the player want to become the divine in the first place.

Basically, there is this huge problem in the world. Nameley the voidwoken.
All faction want to solve this problem in a different way.
The Paladins think the black ring is at fault, the Seekers try to instate a new Divine to fix shit for them, the Magisters blame the Sourcerers on it and think Sourcerer Auschwitz will make the problem go away.

The reality is: The Gods are assholes and betrayed their own people and banished them to the void, making new mortals that exist only to collect source for them to slurp on.
The Eternals however are now coming into the world (becaue the source wall got torn down) and try to take it back, the God king (the old eternals king) is behind all this.
Basically the voidwoken are Animals posessed by the spirits of the Eternals who got yeeted into the void.
Basically every other faction is a brainlet and doesnt know how to end this threat.
The actual ways of sovling this are the endings
>Purge all source, restoring the source wall and locking out the voidwoken
>Distribute source to everyone and just win the war against the god king by pure grit
>Become the Divine yourself and try to take on the voidwoken all by yourself
It appears that each of these options seems to have a good ending, but the first ending will be the canon one.

There's something fucky with the image quality there, real game looks the same in the beamdog version.

It's the godawful UI colors, I guess. Also, the new portraits don't match the old ones stylistically at all. That's why I use PaintBG that makes the portraits more consistent.

Did you know there are lots of Charm specific dialogue in these games? In first game for example, if you charm the rich guy at the starting inn he will give you money, this can be repeated infinitely in an unpatched game IIRC.
And if you charm and speak to his wife she will say something like she wants to talk to you more when her husband is not around

They are releasing console versions of BG/IWD/PST in december. That's probably the last thing they can't do since they got fucked after SoD disaster and the cancelation? of the portrait/soundset pack of those youtubers (pro-jared drama). Their only hope is that board strategy game axis and allies.

Consider that is a save or suck spell though. As you get higher it loses value because of that and because it is a save instead of an attack roll it cannot crit while instead you could hold person and then use firebolt for much more damage

Another (female) Bhaalspawn shows up in Baldur's Gate and basically pretends to be Fearun equivalent of Joan of Arc. She has an army of devoted beta orbiters doing her bidding and it's up to you to stop her. Turns out the main villain of Icewind Dale 1 (that demon I forgot the name of) orchestrated the whole thing to get himself back into Fearun after the defeat he suffered in IWD (which ended on cliffhanger with him promising he'd be back). You can the Joan of Arc team up, but she dies but you defeat the demon in his own fucking plane (which is full retard) killing him for good.
Meanwhile Irenicus is in the shadows throughout the entire expansion also manipulating events to his own ends, he uses the death of Joan of Arc (obviously not her name, she's called Caelar Argent) to turn the population of Baldur's Gate against you and reveals you're a Bhaalspawn just like Sarevok.
You get exiled and make a hasty escape from an angry mob.
During your escape, you get nabbed by Irenicus and his men and put into his rape dungeon.
Cue Baldur's Gate 2.
