I thought it was mediocre. I legitimately thought the praise going for it was a joke. The combat is hilariously straightforward and Alice's artwork quality is so disparate to the rest of the game.
I treated it as a quick joke to play through and never got the incredible hype around it

The Angel killer is portrayed as cool and strong, while the guy with a reasonable concern about monsters is a crazy terrorist.

No he wasn't. That's what he turned to be, but wasn't his entire character. Imagine a group of people killing your friends. I'm sure you would be just as crazy.

Alice has killed multiple monsters, and portrayed as in thw right when she did, like with Cassandra and the Beelzebubs. While it is true that some monsters were shown as unsympathetic, they're still shown as better than the Angels, who are often simple goons who are every bit as sexually depraved, likely moreso as the monsters. This is in addition to all the wank about how strong and unbeatable monsters are.

Ilias really just wanted some love and affection, and the circumstances around her existence made bitter. She's happy to play the good goddess when she's given the chance, and even continues to assist Luka after he became her enemy (Evaluations and reversing time). But this character development comes in the third act, and up to that point she may as well be tying maidens to train tracks. It is obvious the media literate readers that she will be the bad guy as soon as you meet her and Alice, and she can even kill Luka before he sets out, thus wrecking her own plan and needing to rewind.

Paradox feels like a Japanese take on the good old autusm simulator, where a game has an absurd level of detailed placed in to things, such that you're stumbling on to something new all the time. Apparently you can even marry a monster of your choice later on, that's definitely absurd.
