you will be playing the video game called "darkwood"

Play in the dark for maximum shitbrix.

A game

Darkwood is a top-down survival horror video game developed by Acid Wizard Studio.

Good game. Just remember to answer the door if someone comes knocking!

Probably one of the top 5 spooky games made this decade. 10/10 audio and soundwork. It is a little craft-heavy, but once you get the flow this game is truly incredible. Only game in 5 years that has made me truly spooked.

great now i'm too scared to play

Survival crafting grind.

hiding in the corner at night simulator

There's moment that are legit horror kino, but there's also some clumsy crafting mechanics involved as well that caught me by surprise. They are a bit obnoxious, but I think they actually work really well into the horror aspects. It's top tier nonetheless.

the fuck? the game isnt that spooky and honestly drags on by chapter 2 imo because of the really annoying return home to your base every night i feel like they did that because the areas arent very big so they had to limit exploration in an attempt to extend the life of the game
i hope if they make a sequel the world is larger and at night you can actually continue to explore just at a much higher risk maybe even leaning on the other buildings and ruin structures in an area that can also be used to effectively protect yourself at night also id like to see a higher risk vs reward for exploring at night maybe bigger loot drops or even rare items

How does it run on Switch?

Wrong about extending the life of the game, they were testing survival mechanics throughout the development.
Originally you could explore during night, and the way they incentivised staying at your hideout was that you had to drink from the well or you'd start to die. However, just being able to run away from your base didn't really gel well with the systems of the game.

you can expect a dark wood

Extremely spooky but also kinda tedious on gear and stuff. You usually have to brave a lot of stupidly strong enemies to get the stuff you need to get anywhere while the game also preaches not going up against these enemies.

Home invasions are also kinda annoying, you can't stay totally unnoticed trough the night and you will have to duke it out with several enemies every night. Boarding up is pretty much worthless.

>you can't stay totally unnoticed trough the night and you will have to duke it out with several enemies every night
I've survived plenty of nights without alerting any enemies.

You can expect a decent spook that will get stale eventually. Go in blind and don't look anything up. Darkwood really has fuck all replayability.

It's a good game but it really just lacks content. The enemy diversity is way too low. and once you learn that Nighttime is best survived by just walking outside with a weapon and barricading is competely pointless. things just get a bit boring.

This. The sad truth is that the home base stuff loses all feeling of terror because you're basically guaranteed to have enemies smash your barricades down and be instantly found. It becomes less of a nerve wracking hiding from monsters game and more of a infuriating home invasion game where goblins and spiders smash down your door, go weh! and you have to show them how castle law works in poland.
